This video is a flashback from a dive where landed my first big flathead and my first ever cray in one EPIC dive.
How to make your own ornament fish skull:
    1. Wrap head of fish in aluminium foil and place in oven at 150 degrees and leave unit the head is cooked (flesh should turn to meat).
    2. Peel the skin and meat from the head which should be easy to do after its cooked.
    3. Photograph the bones before you pull them as a reference so you'll know how to put it all back together.
    4. Scrub the bones to remove all of the gristle and meat.
    5. Soak bones in Hydrogen Peroxide for 3 days (dilute the Hydrogen Peroxide) with approx 25% water so that it is not too strong on the bones. This will whiten the bones and remove the yellow stained appearance. This can be bought from Chemist Warehouse or a grocery store.
    6. Remove bones from Hydrogen Peroxide and allow to fully dry.
    7. Glue the bones back together using a superglue which is fast drying.
    Safe diving everyone!

Good vid. That rebound was pretty gutting. I've had it happen far too often -- these days I try and dive in as I'm taking the shot and immediately get a hand on the spear to pin it to the sea floor and get my hands in their gills ASAP.
Nothing worse than the flopper not deploying due to rocks and sand, or even worse, the big flatties managing to near themselves apart wriggling off.

Yeah definitely! Flathead can be challenging to land without a barbed spear tip or a hand spear.

What time of year do you head out?

Awesome mate! You'll build memories with him that will last a lifetime! Flathead are all year round. They're easiest to spot on low tide because you can cruize around on the surface without having to dive down. They also come in to shallow water getting ready to feed on bait fish as the water level is dropping so your chances of coming across one are higher.
