      Thanks. Have a free weekend end of July, likely then.

    I am really enjoying this series, I am impressed with the amount of R/D you have put in to find the best possible components.

      Thanks. It could be fancier but that justs adds cost for little to no benefit. Its all a balancing act.

    Great video and build Colin. You could always put glue lined heat shrink on the pole then cut a slot in the D ring near the straight then slide it under the heat shrink. The heat shrink should hold the D ring on the pole and it will not slide up or down. Without trying I am not sure if it would work but an idea. 👍🏽 73 mate

      Thats a really good idea, hadnt thought of that. Only downside is its not field replaceable easily.

      @@MM0OPXFieldRadioMorning mate, yes you are right. If in the field it wouldn't be for a long time. I would just tie it up if one was to fail. I would maybe cut a D ring and see how much force it would need to deform or snap. I guess they are made out of a ABS kind of material. If they bend quiet easily I would try a stainless steel one. They are on Amazon. I don't think they would bend.
      I would do a test to see which fails first the D ring or the heat shrink.
      Belt and braces you could go the whole hog. Use the stainless one and fix them to the pole like a fishing rod eye. Wrap it with twine and paint it with something like nail varnish or epoxy.
      Well food for thought there mate. You have done a fantastic job, if you try any of the above let me know how you get on. Shame I don't live closer. I only come up your way with work. 😁
      Happy father's day from a radio son.

      Thanks mate. I've still to make a small spares kit for this although not much to go wrong.

      @@MM0OPXFieldRadio yes I don't really see anything that will fail under normal use. I have had the tent pole snap but they were under a lot of wind and a 6 man tent attached to them.
      I can't see wind breaking it. Outstanding craftsmanship you have done. I am currently on a cad program designing a case for Meshtastic. Not sure why as I can only pick up one other HAM guy about a mile away. Oh well keeps us busy 🤣. I will put loads of hours into this just for it to sit in a draw.

    Many thanks for this video series, Colin. It's pretty goddamn great.
    If you were to scale up to 'permanent mount' vs. portable, what aspects would you look at upgrading? Or is the whole thing built for weight and convenience?

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah its built for convenience. For a permanent solution. Thicker base plate, thicker larger diameter centre post, thicker larger diameter spreader arms. The rest to suit.

      Colin, I absolutely love your design and really appreciate you putting together these detailed videos!! This looks like the perfect solution for my situation. I put together a relatively permanent installation, but it’s too difficult to take down for every threat of a hurricane (too heavy and not enough room for a tilt over mast). I tried telescoping crappie poles, but they were too flimsy and I couldn’t leave wire guides on the arms. I think this will work really well! Thanks!!

      Your welcome. I want to make the Hexbeam more accessible to people. The next one I'm building for 15-6 has a bit more finesse.
