Thanks for this, what a deal at $16. I ordered one, it works great!

Nice score. I have the "fish stick" and got it cheap some time ago. I have big and small masts for POTA, but my favorite is the PackTenna 29'+ Tall Carbon Fiber Mast. Like SotaBeams, PackTenna goes in and out of stock. I joined the PackTenna IO group and there George gives an update on what is available. Love the carbon fiber for lightweight, yet super durable. I just wouldn't put a piece of antenna wire on the carbon fiber. 73. Joe - W7BWA

I just had to look it up. That looks great and the price seems fair. Hopefully I can get my hands on one over the carbon 6. Thanks!

Great video, Dude! The collapsible fishing poles make excellent antenna masts for sure! One definitely gets their money’s worth from them versus other options.
I started off my portable radio adventure with one from Shakespeare and still use it from time to time.

I have the 33' MFL mast in my car and use it with a drive-on flag pole mount for POTA, but that mast does have some bend to it. I recently got the SOTABEAMS Tactical 7000HDS for travel, since it'll fit in a carry-on suitcase. A friend of mine has the Tactical Mini. Both are crazy strong. However, the 7000HDS that I got is a bit heavier than I had hoped and it's got a big o'l booty so it won't fit into the drive-on mount.

Aftermarket telescoping poles can be expensive. Thanks for finding this.

I use a tiki torch stake to stabilize the fishing pole masts. Works well.

I was wondering if a pvc pipe set in a smaller 2.5 gallon bucket of concrete would make a stable base to mount this on? I need suggestions from commenters on a good way to mount to this pole a good type of dual band antenna 2m/70cm. Thanks!

If you're asking about to hold this mast, sure.. I take this mast to the beach and use a umbrella beach holder to hold the mast. No issues there, so a concrete 5 gallon bucket with pvc, may be overkill, but it will work

The price is back down now but the vendor charges 6.99 for shipping

I bought one at this price. I'm uncertain if there w're was shipping when it was down at 16.99 the first time.

Ordered one myself. Have the biggest JackTite but at 3 feet collaped and 2 or 3 pounds it's a little too much for trekking.

Wow long even when collapsed, as long as my JackTite 31 foot collapsed. But 14 oz vs just over 3 lbs. That will make a difference for a POTA activation I'm planning with about a mile hike in.

Could you tell me what type of antenna you used and how you mounted the antenna? I use mostly 2 meter

Hey there! Congrats on 2m. I think I was using an EFHW antenna during this episode for HF bands. I didn't re watch the video, but I do remember making it and I believe it was that fully. Are you looking for an antenna for HF, VHF or UHF? or VHF/UHF? Maybe I can give you some suggestions. What radio will you run? Thanks
