Being in the wealth business myself, educating clients on growing and sustaining wealth is a daily event. Janine’s talk clearly outlines the current issues millennials face today, what society can do to help, and more importantly what millennials can do for themselves. A video all should watch.

Janine's passion for helping millennials, and women, build wealth, comes through in this talk. She debunks the conventional wisdom that millennials are "lazy" and "entitled" by clearly laying out the issues they face. She also offers practical solutions to build a society that ensures that millennials aren't left behind when it comes to building wealth and a decent lifestyle.

I think a lot about what educational debt is costing us in Canada/the US. Having lived in Germany where higher education is much more accessible and fees can be paid with not even a summer's work or a part-time job, graduates are much more able to pursue opportunities close to their passions. This is good for all of us as we can get smart and driven people into community-based organizations vs. finance without the pressure to repay loans. What a dream it would be to shift our society in that direction. Thanks for the vision, Janine!

Interesting perspective and good points. I think the bigger problem facing Gen Y and Z is debt. Credit is too easily goven and saving plans don't hold the same values as they did some 20 years ago.
Unfortunately, we are in a culture of debt and immediate gratification. Today, there is rarely a need to ever save - and what we are seeing with a broke population is the compounding impact of years without proper saving techniques.
A good strategy anyone should learn is the 25/75 rule. 25% of your paycheque goes into a savings account (RRSP /TFSA), etc. Something - 75% should be more than enough to live within means and very comfortably.

Thanks for this TED talk; I really loved your breakdown of the 5 economic factors a millennial experiences challenges. The macroeconomic headwinds of 2022 have only increased the plummeting of millennials wealth.
Totally agree that everyone can begin their wealth building journey with as little as $20.
Looking forward to meeting at the upcoming meetup in YYC! Thanks, .mike

Really good points raised. I like the idea of investing so you can put your money to work for you.
Asking for a raise is not something everyone is in a position to do, but we can all strive for better investment returns. 🙂
