Isn't it something how Kiyo and Annie are best buds most of the time, but when it comes to his mother, Annie doesn't have a chance. I love watching the troop when they watch out for one another. Gorillas are the best of the animal kingdom. I 💖🦍
Yeah, so sad Nene never accepted Annie. I'm so glad she had Daddy to protect her and Dad and Kiyo adore Annie. They saved her in many ways.
It's very sweet seeing Nene with everyone, especially with her trying with Annie. I'm pretty sure that she's aware that Annie needs more female companionship as the dynamics in the group change. In my opinion, Annie wants Nene's attention. The only way she feels she can get it is by pranking Nene. Negative attention is still attention. The reason why I think that Nene hugged Annie is that it's instinctual for female gorillas to support each other against silverbacks because they are smaller and more vulnerable. Nene saw some aggression from Shabani towards Ai the other day and I believe she was nervous having Shabani and Kiyomasa there, even though they were trying to protect her from Annie. With the males, it can lead to an altercation and she's an older gorilla now. I felt that her hugging Annie was because female gorillas feel safer in numbers. Annie was the only female gorilla around, so Nene clung to Annie to feel safe, until she understood that the males were trying to protect her. Nene sitting close to Annie later while she ate was a good sign that she is seeing the value in another female gorilla around.

Nene can get up and go when she needs too for her age ❤. Nene has nothing to worry about with the handsome Kiyomasa to take good care of mom just like she took good care of him when he was a baby❤, I like seeing the love between them it’s absolutely amazing 😻

Hi Lynn~ Awww, Beautiful Biddy is such a Wonderful and playful soul. She has the best facial reactions towards the family members, especially Lope! Biddy always made/makes me smile. You could almost read her thoughts with her funny looks and facial responses. Just more proof how intelligent, funny and emotional these gentle souls are. Gorillas do have every bit of our emotions and it is easy to see the variety of them when you watch and love them like we all do.

Definitely! Shabani would not let Kiyo or nene hurt Annie at all. Annie is his favorite and he saw that she was the only one loyal to him. And Nene was starting to hold Annie in order of Kiyo get to her, not a nice embrace.

I think Annie always seeked Nene's acceptance and affection. It is clear Annie is being playful with Nene and just wants to have closeness with her. I will never know how Nene could have so much love for Kiyomasa and be unable to tolerate her Granddaughter, Annie at all. I have seen Annie show empathy and concern for Nene many times when she was ill. Sadly, Nene just cannot stand Annie near her at all. I know Kiyo is Nene's world. But many other Female Mothers are much more tolerant and forgiving to another Baby in the Troop. Especially since Annie watched Nene give so much protection and love to Kiyo as she did without. Annie still wanted a friendship with Nene, I guess like with humans, sometimes we just don't like someone, no matter how much they try. Still sad to me to have seen Nene not have any compassion for a helpless Baby when she joined the family. I do think that Nene and Kiyomasa had a beautiful bond and still do. Kiyo is Nene's world and little Prince. I think Nene lives for Kiyo and to protect him.
I think Nene hugged Annie because she knows Shabani will defend Annie anytime Nene tries to fight her. Nene hugged Annie so Shabani would not get rough with her. Maybe to also calm Annie from bugging her. Annie was confused too. And no doubt was happy to get a hug from Nene. Nene is wise enough to know the times to just let things go. As soon as she hugged Annie, Shabami was calm then even formed a barrier to let Nene walk off from Annie in peace keeping Annie away from Nene. Just my opinion. Nene is too old for the drama that comes from getting angry and attacking Annie. Kiyo came to defend Mom, Shabani also calmly separated them. All ended well. It seemed after Annie did walk past Nene maybe hoping for Nene to show more affection towards her. Annie seemed shocked at Nene's kind behavior. Nice the way it worked out.
I agree she hugged Annie to protect HERSELF from Shabani. Poor Annie…thinking (or hoping) it was a real hug.

I guess like with humans, some just don't like others for their own reasons. It's just sad they never bonded and had a fun and loving relationship. We know Nene loves hard ( as we saw with her Prince, Kiyomasa ) It would have been great if she showed Annie some of that love she gave naturally & easily to her Son because no doubt she craved a protector, teacher and someone to love her like Mothers do. It must have been very hard for little Annie watching Nene be such a great Mom to Kiyomasa when she could do nothing but watch from a far and wish and also hope (maybe one day ) she had that love too. But, Daddy gave her lots of protection and affection along with Kiyomasa. He adores his little sister and both males saved her with their love. Annie is very special to many. She has such a playful, sweet and kind soul. I think she has her Dad's kindness and playful heart. I think she will be a loving Mommy too someday. She loves the little kids who visit her and I think she would be a great Mommy. I pray she gets placed with kind Females and a wonderful Silverback. They say we always search for qualities like our Fathers had... Well, Shabani is so wonderful, it's gonna be hard finding a match to his many beautiful qualities! I really hope she has a great adult family. She deserves it.
I agree, Shabani doesn't discipline Annie not really. He would protect Annie at all coasts against any of rhe rest of the troop. NeNe was not trying to protect Annie, she was trying to keep Shabani from bopping her (NeNe) on the head!

Sad that Nene never could open her heart to Annie. I just hope when Annie moves to her adult home, the Females and Silverback are kind, sweet and loving to Annie. She really does have a tender heart ( like Dad ) and she seems to get really nervous and upset with any fighting in the family. She really is wonderful. Love her so much!

As a momma I think I know why Nene was hugging Annie. Shabani and Kyomasa were protecting Nene from Annie and might have disciplined her had Nene not hugged Annie. I think Nene was saying, with that hug, “Annie might’ve been playing too rough but I don’t want you to discipline her at this time.”

Shabani is such a good mate and Dad. You can really see a difference between him and Momotaro. Stable family upbringing matters to gorillas and humans.
They have different rules, behaviours of how they like things to be done in their troop. Momentaro is amazing silverback too. He likes more structure and likes to be respected at all times. They both are displaying natural behaviours for a silverback. They are innocent primates there isn't one better than the other.
I love Momo and he just has a different temperament at least partially due to being not raised around other gorillas or his father. This is no his fault. He is a guest of his zoo and at the mercy of their decisions.
@@kells1784 , Momotoro is insecure and imposes these stupid rules all the time like get out first blah blah Shabani is a very secure gorilla and doesn’t need these kinds of rules . Shabani is much much better than Momotoro .

After watching so many of these wonderful videos, I have arrived at the idea that Gorillas communicate telepathically with each other
The sad thing about these great videos many are kind enough to share with us, is without the sounds inside the enclosure, we cannot hear their Vocalizations that they use to communicate with each other. They do have sounds they learn from birth for different emotions/feelings/teaching to relay commands and they communicate through grunts and other sounds. I read some can be negative or positive depending on their moods and what they are trying to communicate towards each other. I would think the body language and facial expressions all fall into that too. ;-)

I found it interesting that Shibani and Kyo seemed to be working a bit as a team too. Maybe Shibani who loves his family so much will be one of those silverbacks who is okay with his son staying - if his son always defers to him.

Suddenly Nene is wonderful and people keeping say i felt for Nene blah blah Annie is so bad and nene she doesn’t need to go thru that in her senior years. So people forgets that also Annie didn’t need to go thru Nene harassment, to have her be bitten all the time sometimes both by Nene and Ai together and if wasn’t for Shabani maybe Annie would have died. Is this video, Nene was not hugging Annie but hold Annie for Kiyo that was coming to the left in order to get Annie and didn’t happen because Shabani was there always looking for Annie well being. Or you would think that Shabani would discipline or hurt Annie! Why would him since he’s not stupid and knows Annie was the one only loyal to him during nene and Ai histerical raucous last month?

I don't think nene was hugging annie at all. She appeared to be trying to mount her as a show of dominance. And that would make more sense than her hugging her.

Despite being harassed by Annie, Nene she still protected her from getting into trouble. Nene needs to land one swift bite to her to teach her a lesson. I feel for for Nene, she doesn't need it in her senior years.
I felt for Annie that spent her childhood being harassed and bitten by Nene all the time and if wasn’t for Shabani defending Annie , maybe she wouldn’t be alive today. People have “ strange “ memories and forgetting things when it’s convenient for them!
Nene and Kiyo know that dad will not let them hurt Annie. Nene held annie so that Kiyo could get to her but with Dad there nothing could happen. Annie knows that Nene has been wanting her dead since she was a baby. So she taunts Annie. Nene is what? 120 years old in gorilla years? Her undead status cripples the whole family.

Annie started playing with nene annoying her as Kiyo stepped in, and then shabani, as nene being the eldest and matriarch she knew the two males were going to get rough with annie, hence the reason why she hugged her and as soon as she did, kiyo stopped in his tracks and they began following nene, and NOT annie, as she is the boss!!!
