    Nice review. We've been overland camping for decades and use a Kodiak Canvas tent on a regular basis, so size/weight is not an issue. We have recently decided to have a "quick option" shelter when showing up somewhere in the middle of the night and are just too tired and don't feel like dealing with a large tent in the dark. This is great to throw a couple sleeping bags in and get some sleep, then set up the real tent the next morning.

    well I am not a survivalist nor a tent snob ( although my present tent is a Swiss Gear 3 room Weekender) but I am a Glamper... and at this point anything that doesn't take me 45 minutes to put up looks good!... just ordered this from Amazon and I am super excited😁.. I figured this tent, a pop-up shower with dressing area, a nice Lounge area and a small but functions kitchen all under a 10 by 20 -25 foot tarp... she give me my usual great glamping experience in half the time!!! woo-hoo thanks for the video! and especially thanks for getting inside the tent for a "scale" check... figure Fido and I will have more than enough space... thanks again👍

    this tent is great! used it for 5 days camping in the rain not a drop came through. granted i used a small tarp also. pops up in seconds and the take down is as easy as pulling the stakes out

    As a scout leader, this would be great just for the fact that I can race my scouts for who can set up their tent the fastest

    • @flytoy
      @flytoy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am also a scout leader. I really like this tent. However not so much on rain days or on nights of heavy dew. It need a fly that covers the entrance. As soon as its opened the rain goes in or the dew slides down and in. Never had a tent that allows so much water to get while entering and exiting.

    This design has been around since the movie"Congo".
    In the mid 90's,I had the big brother to that one made under the name'Quick Draw'.
    It was 11'L×7'W×5'H.
    I got mine from the Marlboro catalog,and used it in Alaska,on and off for 3+yrs.

    I have a two man one. It can be strapped to a pack. You will look like a ninja turtle. But, given the ease of use, it's worth it.
    Where this thing shines, is after dark. Ever try to set up a tent after dark? This thing is as easy at night as during the day.
    Ideal for quick shelter, after dark, after an exhausting day.

    • @acephantom903
      @acephantom903 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will say that my early 90's Coleman 1 person tent is pretty easy to set up in the dark as well. Problem is that it has absolutely no ventilation. Poles are inside the tent. Pretty much pull out the bag and toss it to the ground, assemble the 2 rods and shove them inside to the diagonal corners. Sure, people say it is a dog tent but it works well enough and unlike many modern tents it doesn't take an hour to set up and teardown. :) I've been thinking about pop up tents for a little while which is why I'm here. My backpacking I do on a mountain bike with saddle bags. These pop up tents might not be what I'm looking for.

    Thank you very much for the review Chris, your unbiased "Will it work or not" slant is brilliant!!
    Has probably been mentioned. Great for staking out your camping spot if you use a roof top tent and want to go for a drive and then come back to your site.
    I have a have the big, home away from home tent but this will be use full for the, "I'm touring 1500kms and saying in a cabin for 5 days" and then I'm either driving straight home or stopping for a night or two. Looks like it will will be nice and easy to slip into the car.
    Cheers Gaz.

    I have the two person one. It’s still huge. But I’m very impressed with its design, especially for the price. Great emergency shelter. Mine folds up not much smaller than the 4 person one. I figure it’s a good tent for me to camp in with my cat that I can set up and tear down quick on a road trip. Also for emergency inside the house to stay warm if we get a power outage in the winter. Fits in the car easily. I’m looking forward to using it. I already set it up once when I first got it. Thanks for showing me how to fold it up cuz that was my only struggle with it

    It's convenient for easy camping, but doesn't look sturdy for reliable camping and heavy rains for one week straight. I'd like a tent like this that is built for durability and reliability. Thanks for the review.

    These are good tents to setup at night in low level light, but be careful as some are meant to be beach shelters. I had a blue one that flooded due to being a beach and sun shelter only and didn't hold up to some mild rain.

    Saw this on ig, saw how circular it was which turned me off because I thought you could back pack with it. But when I finally came around to watch the video I think I might buy this. For camping, I guess backing...maybe..., but I would also like to keep it in the truck. Thank man!

    Criss, good job on that demonstration. I had purchased a similar {tent} kind of shower stall . My wife and I use it for a porta- potty room and shower. Took me quite awhile even with instructions to figure out how to fold and twist it to get it back in the bag! Good thing on mine they saw fit to sew a tag on telling you how it is to be done. Good looking shelter. I commend Colman on that one.

      +Jairus Kent Agreed. My kids aren't ready for hammock camping yet though. They need that "security" of a tent. And they are kids, so they don't feel like they rolled down the side of a cliff in the morning if they sleep on the ground.

    That is an awesome "keep the kids happy" tool. It can be staked to the lawn, plunked down on the deck and in the winter as a treat set up in the living-room, as you found out, lol. The kids will have a blast and will make great memories along with a hotdog roast in the fireplace.pricele$$! cause making it fun for them is what it's all about.

    I use this tent for easy summer camping. It's huge, and worked great in the rain. Don't open the door if there is water on the roof! Other than that it's great. I wouldn't backpack with it , or winter camp in it. I like that if you take the fly off, you can see the stars. My other tent is a Snugpack Scorpion 3. I've used an old MSS with the bivvy, but now use Wiggy's bags.

    i think pop up tents have been around a bit longer than 2 years! but they are already have been out-moded with inflatable tents. and YES! your "2 man = 1 man, 4 man = 2 man" is so true. i have a 1 man, and yeah it can fit me, but all my cooking equipment, rucksack and spare clothes go in a waterporrf bag outside my tent!

    A point of clarificaton, Coleman starting making these tents in the 1950's. At the time, Coleman's reputation was based on metal-sided semiportable ice boxes and the "white-gas" two burner table top stoves and two mantle lantern. These first tents were made of canvas as all tents in that era were made. Poly-material was a thing of the future. I saw many of these tents in state and national park campgrounds, but I never saw one being pitched or taken down. I believe that at the same time or so, Coleman came out with the hybrid trailer/tent camper that had the ends extend outwards to make a two person bed on each end and the canvas tent top unfolded somewhat like a convertible top. Very innovative technology at the time, though the trailer/tent was sufficiently expensive that it was purchased primarily by rabid campers who could not pull a full trailer camper or those with plenty of discreationary funding.

    Great tent and video, Chris. I have a 4 man(2 man) Coleman instant tent. Only reason I like it better is because I can just about stand up in it. Takes 2 minutes to set up. All my stuff is Coleman. I especially love my Coleman stove. A real workhorse and the propane seems to last forever.

    I was skeptical at first, but this would be nice for regular use with the kiddos instead of using our more advanced backpacking tent. You know just how you mentioned, to take on scouting outings or quick over nighter. It seems leaps and bounds over some pop up blinds of old. Price is not bad either.

    Excellent video. these were first used for beach tents, If you remember. I have one from 5 years ago, beach canopy, and the fold away very easy. I think for summer camping x 2, is perfect for kids 75.00 bucks on Amazon. So for $150.00. The deployment and vent, Yes I have written many reviews, and ALWAYS cut the PER PERSON REC, DOWN BY 50%. A tTARP OVERHEAD, could help in heavy rain, not sure about fall/winter use. But a summer bbq tent.

    To tell you the truth, I wouldn't even use the rain fly unless I had to. I would pack a super lightweight tarp for hammock camping and just try to set up between two trees if rain is in the forecast. Looks like a decent tent though. Not very rugged but with a couple of other things like maybe a ground tarp too it could be a decent option for a quick easy weekend camp or even for a fun-but short backpacking trip.

    not bad, needs double the ventilation for texas. love the ease of setup and put away. i do some beach camping and would love to know if the spring steel that make the poles are coated or not. otherwise the beach salt will rust them thru no time flat. beach wind will split/crack and totally destroy any normal tent poles so if those poles are coated then this would be an awesome beach tent because if the tent gets flattened by the wind, the tent will survive.
