    In this video, I continue to work on the bronze breastplate. Using pitch as a backer, I use a repousse technique to create a decorative motif around the collar. After some final refining of the overall shape (which also work hardens the bronze), I then brush the entire surface with gun blue. This takes the entire surface to a chocolate brown colour. I then dip the breastplate in water to neutralize the acid's effects and rub the piece with steel wool while it is still wet.

    Amazing work! I am Greek and I was always wondering how they made their armor and helmets. That was like watching live history! The only difference I can think of is that Hellenic blacksmith artists would probably not be wearing slayer and celtic frost shirts! :)

    Also, no disrespect to your brass breastplate, but this bronze one you've concocted is just epic and dangerous looking, a seriously excellent piece of work. Out of curiosity, considering the amount of hours you put into creating this, how much money would you imagine yourself accepting for one of these?

    Amazing work on your breastplate. I can't wait to see a video or two on the back plate, I'm learning to make greco-roman breastplates but making a back plate fit with the front is very tricky, so this would be very educational to see your next video on the back plate. Since you plan on making a Corinthian helmet in the future, have you ever thought of attaching a crest (regular or transverse) on it? If so, I'd like to see how you do that.

    • @ThakIronworks
      @ThakIronworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ThakIronworks Awesome! I personally think that a transverse crest would be your style for a man of your physique, but that's only my opinion, you go with what you think fits your style.

      @@ThakIronworks First time at your channel, first video is the 1st one of this and the second here, when you put the bulls head in there it was a lightning bolt to my brain because I am a Taurus. I have done blades and some general blacksmithing in the past but nothing like this. I wish I had my forge, I had to stop because of cancer treatments. If I ever get back onto doing smithing I would start doing armor. Its beautiful, keep up the good work.

    Did you mention how many total hours the whole thing took? Would there be a back piece taking nearly as long minus most of the repousse? Oathlords is set in a sort of bronze age, so these videos were very helpful. I was a little confused if they actually cast these parts... the smithing of sheets makes so much more sense. Appreciate your videos, your incredible skill, and your impressive experience. Hopefully someday soon I can afford your work.
