Yoongi: "It’s part of the treatment to bring back bad memories from your past and learn to control those memories. while finishing up this album, i also thought a bit about why i was making this album. and i even if i try, i cant change the past. and you need to forgive yourself. and for the past that's bothered me, i needed to forgive myself. and that's why the title is d-day. it was a time for me to be able to organize my past and what made me who I am now. In a way, we're responsible for all our own wounds and scars. No one can dodge the first arrow of trouble, of course, but when that second arrow flies at you, you've chosen to just stand there and get hit, rather than learn from the first time.”

During the tour the stage was basically that room, it had rain and thunder in it, fire too, the stage getting smaller and smaller as the pieces of flooring disappeared. Until finally at the last show Yoongi opened that door and left the place of sorrow, like literally there was a door on stage and everything. When i tell you armys BAWLED like babies that day...its an understatement 😅

This mv is the best depiction of how depression and trauma feels that I’ve ever seen. I bawled my eyes out the first time I saw it and still tear up every time I see him crawling,
I’m proud of every person wo can relate as well and manages to keep trying and not giving up.
Yoongi knows and it means everything that he released this. He’s a true mental health advocate for me.
    Thank you for reacting.

Yes, he walked through the door at the end of his last concert. He also cried during three songs, Amygdala, Snooze, and Dear Friend. All three songs that talk about the past. He said after the concert that when he was singing, he was flooded with memories and that's why he cried. You're right about Yoongi in Haegeum not having the scar. He has said that we put scars on ourselves when we allow our past to mark us. That's what he was trying to show in this video. Not having the scar in Haegeum is because he has been healing from his past trauma. Also, this is the third instalment of his trilogy, but there are scenes from his past because he's remembering them. Unpacking those memories, as he says in the song. This song was the first time any of the fans heard about his father's cancer or his mother's heart surgery. Once again, Yoongi killing us with his raw, honest lryics.

So glad you watched this, it's such a powerful song and very much a story about Yoongi's real life. (Note: these are my own interpretations) The room can be interpreted as his amygdala, which as you know process emotions, store your memories and fear and flight responses and other stuff. So he's stuck with all the painful memories/emotions/Trauma and in the MV he doesn't get out. That scar represents his painful traumas in his life. Even tho this is technically the last video of the trilogy it can be seen as the prologue, this explains why his other self in Daechwita and Haeguem has the scar on their faces. In the last day of his concert in Seoul before he left the stage the amygdala door appeared and he walked out of it....symbolizing that he finally freed himself from all that past trauma and he's happy and content with his life. If you have a chance to watch that last concert, please do...but have tissues handy because it's an emotional rollercoaster! 💜💜💜

I was at UBS Day 1 of his tour. The atmosphere in the venue during Amygdala was... something else. It was like group catharsis. Everyone screaming "My Amygdala" over and over. I'll never forget that.

that scarred version on himself, the hurt part of him that he locked up to endure all the pain in his life became the agust d persona that was the one taking hits, the i-dont-care one that can take it all and shrug it off with a smirk. we were always taking the scarred king/boss from Daechwita and Haegeum as an evil side that deserved the punishment, but in reality they were those who needed to be saved the most

Just a trivia, but did you notice Yoongi eating someting in the dark room? These were almonds, and the amygdala is almond-shaped. During In The Soop, Yoongi was seen reading the book "Almond". It portraits a boy who had difficulty feeling emotions, and his mom made him eat almonds because she thought it might help with the "almond" in his head, i.e. the amygdala. Also, almonds are commonly known to naturally boost your memory. Not sure if any of the interpretations is more correct than others (or maybe all of them are equally), but nothing is accidental with Bangtan 😄
Great reaction, I love your in-depth approach to lyrics and symbolism 💜

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Such a good song. Pls pause as much as u want. I love hearing your thoughts. This is my fav song from his album. My 2nd fav is Snooze. I love all the songs though. But these for some reason made me feel more. When i heard this for the 1st time i smiled. This MV speaks his truth. I am glad Suga talked about it more. I think the more u speak about it the easier it gets as the years pass. I am sorry he went through so much. I am sad he did not reach the door. I think this song is tricky. I think the MV enhanced the song a lot for me. Good visuals. Loved the feels. I am an empath so i take it in. Suga was sharing his trauma, his painful memories right. I was not aware his mom had heart surgery or that his dad battled cancer. I wonder if his bike accident occured in the same year as everything else. We know Suga survived it was a miracle. Yoongi dealt with so much pain for so long. We were all so glad he finally had the shoulder surgery. They are so strong all of them. They are our strength and we theirs. I was finally able to cry for him at last with Anitra's reaction @saywhatreacts. My therapist said I am not afraid of death. I faced my death already dealing with cancer. So his truth was not that shocking to me. But still I wanted to cry for him because he can't. Pls watch the explanation to Daechwita. After u do ur own breakdown. Also, pls watch an explanation for Amygdala too. Check if Bookish Theories has one. She is good. Borahae. -NY USA 2019 Army 💟

People with PTSD have the same issues with their amygdala. Not being able to process emotion and trauma properly. People who suffer with PTSD in multiple forms would understand this mv straight off. Its the whole process of nightmares vs flashbacks. Flashbacks being more of a process for PTSD sufferers. I have Complex PTSD and hypervigilance so i understand this mv with all its little nuances. I respect Yoongi so much that has been able to be so open with these issues.

I think the trilogy is about slowly recovering from trauma... the Amygdala MV explains the key to understanding the other two MVs, in that it shows that the scar is a mark of a character that is acting on their trauma - Yoongi has been slowly healing over the years. In Daechwita (D-2), he replaced "blond Agust D" from the first mixtape (he was blond for the MVs he released in 2016), who was a king who ruled out of anger... in Haegeum, a new Yoongi who DOESN'T have a scar, he's healed from his trauma - or at least has learned how to have it not continue to hurt him any more by self-inflicting wounds in response to it - and Haegeum Yoongi replaces D-2 Yoongi whose scar is old but still there, and is ruling in a civil manner but perhaps too caught up in the flexing aspect (the fancy suit, the slick image). I think Haegeum is the end on a note of Yoongi being free, and living the way he wants. Amygdala is needed to explain that key though - what Yoongi had to go through mentally to get to that point.
The fact that he's sharing this with us, to me, means that he's reached a healthy place where he feels strong and recovered enough to share the story. Even if he can't put a firm happy ending on it, because you can't do that with mental struggles - in the latest episode of Suchwita, he even tells RM that he gets low every 2-3 years, but has learned how to handle it better as time has passed, and now RM thinks he's the most positive person on the team. Really, Yoongi is absolutely amazing. I love him so much and he deserves all the hugs in the world.

I really appreciate the interpretation of "green Suga/almond-eating Suga" because I honestly didn't know how to interpret that character and what Carlos said makes SO MUCH SENSE and also gives me closure for the MV, when I didn't feel like it had much closure before. I always felt like Yoongi storyboarded these MVs the way he did for a reason - that they can touch on both his personal journey, but also the problems with the industry/society that he sees. I also loved Carlos' comment about Yoongi putting himself in both the hero and villain role, as a commentary that he's also part of/a product of the society/industry that he's criticizing, but that just means he knows exactly what he's talking about. Anyway, great discussion!
    @heathermurray7130 said on 5/21/23
He couldn't open the door because you can't open the door. Once you have experienced trauma, it stays with you forever. You can't "save" yourself from it, you can manage it, and you can give it less power over you but in the end, it is a part of us, you can't cut it out. I think that moment when he slides down the door is that moment of acceptance.

You could react to 'AGUST D - DAECHWITA '대취타' Explained By A Korean' by DKDKTV for the historical references if you haven't seen that already.
When he had that scar in Daechwita there were speculations about it being from his battle with underground rappers or the k-pop music industry. But Yoongi revealed in the behind the scenes for this MV that this is the origin of the scar - that he gave it to himself. I believe he means by dwelling on the past.
I also think that him as a delivery guy is not the real world but a memory (sepia toned). So this whole MV is inside his head. At the end, the memory of who he was before the trauma tries to free him but fails. I think 'I don't know your name' could reference a dissociation with who he was before but there can be many interpretations. In his last concert he can open the door as someone who has fought through the trauma and worked on healing himself.
