    omg I've just gotten mine!! yeya! I have question that I can't find a video on but it seems so simple. How do I adjust the levels of the tracks after I have recorded them individually? like if I record on track 1 and 2, but 2 was too loud and I want to lower it while they are both playing. Thank you!!!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Click LOOP and then select the track number 2 then in that menu you will find the track volume.
      There is also a loop level volume on the main mixer if you just hit enter from the main menu but that adjusts all the loops together.
      Alternative is to use a midi controller like the Korg nanoControl and program it up to be the loop levels.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      The looper can route out to a speaker anyways but you could get an ABY switcher if you didn’t want it to go through the RC-600 at all. Advantages of it going through is compression, FX for normal singing. You can put it through so it doesn’t get looped as well.

    great video! I was wondering how to assign more than one effect to a bank? I wanted to create profiles like one acoustic bank, a guitar rhytm bank, a guitar solo bank, and a voice bank with multiple input effects on each bank, is that possible?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Elton.
      So yes but a little bit of setup.
      You would use two of the Assigns.
      Assign a pedal (wether that’s one of the buttons on the RC600 or something external) to IN FX BNK INC to increase that bank from A-D and a second to IN FX BNK DEC to decrease that bank from D-A.
      Then you could use mode 3 to turn on the effects of whatever bank you are on.. or re-assign them to somewhere else.
      It’s pretty intense how much you can do with this one unit.
      You can find all the assign commands on the Parameter guide (page 26 onwards). I would strongly suggest download it. 👍🏻

    Can you explain more about the midi? Can we plug in a simple midi keyboard controller and use the built in synth sounds? and thanks for this vid man

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Matt 👋
      So the Midi is there for primarily controlling the RC-600. So control changes for external controls like a midi pedal. The only playable part is the effects for the Harmoniser and the Vocoder and the option to tell the RC-600 what notes for the rhythm section if you want them pumped out and played by an external drum machine. There is a ‘synth’ effect but it can’t be played with a midi keyboard and there are no built in keyboard sounds.

    Unfortunately I finding a huge limitation, especially if used in a live setting, with the unit's noise suppression software. Even with it set to 0 on the input, I'm still getting noise suppression. None of my instruments fade out naturally when plugged into RC600, but instead clip/cut out as the sound is tapering off. This is really noticeable when cymbal sounds are decaying, they never fully ring out no matter what I set the noise suppression to.

      Hey Bruce 👋
      The Drums (rhythm) are not part of any of the 6 loops. However you can if you want to record them to a loop or if you use the RC rhyrhm converter, you can import SMF files into the User bank and have them on a loop. But by default the rhythm is it’s own input and doesn’t have to be recorded onto a loop if you don’t want to and you can control it independently.

    2 questions I’m hoping you can answer. 1. I cannot go into loop and edit each track individually. I want to make track 3 ONLY to have overdub. 2. When I had the RC-300. I had my track 3 automatically detect how long I played on track one and it would only allow me to record that same length. How would I get the RC600 set up the same way where it matches the tempo of track 1 and then only allows me to record that length and then stays in overdub mode.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the overdubs, go into menu>CTRL/Func> select mode 1 pedal 5 and change to only record once and then play. Same with pedal 3 mode one.
      Then to change the track 3, go into Loop, select track 3 and you can dictate the number of bars via free or auto or the number and then in the menu go to REC and change overdub to REC/DUB instead of REC/PLAY which is the default.
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the detailed review. I have a question about track FX. If gives option to assign to all, or a specific track only. Does this mean that a track effect either applies to all existing tracks simultaneously OR only ever the same 1 track per memory? For instance, if I have 6 tracks recorded, can I apply the effect to track 2 now, then track 3 later, and then track 4 at another time during my performance? Does reverse and half speed work the same way? I would want to apply an effect to only 1 track of the loop, but would want to have the flexibility to apply effect to different tracks at different times. I also don’t see any sort of overdub decay option. How does the ‘replace’ overdub work? They are so close to decay/aging, why not allow overdubs to slowly decay over time rather than hard limits on no decay or full replace? Thanks for feedback.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Daniel.
      So firstly, you can choose to have things ‘per system’ or ‘per memory’. I have mine set as per memory as i want different things for different songs.
      FX wise, there are 4 track fx but also 4 banks of four so you are right they are assigned to that track but you could use a different bank and assign to a different one. You can only use one bank at a time thou. Same for reverse and half speed. You don’t have to have them in the same buttons either.. it’s totally customisable with 3 modes for each memory.. so that’s 27 buttons you can adjust ‘per memory’! Gets pretty deep.
      There currently isn’t a decay option.. hope they add that in a firmware update.
      Regarding overdub replace.. it’s basically before or afterwards.. so you can replace instantly or you can replace whilst the original is playing and then it will replace it. Clever.
      Another option which is pretty sweet it mark back letting you replace after many overdubs.
      Have a look at all the short videos I’ve made with the RC-600.
      Hope they all help.

But with the second and third track, when it's playing what I recorded, it makes a little pause right where the loop ends/starts. I mean, the end/start of the loop is not totally solid. This is a bug that’s known with tracks 2 & 3. It happens when you have ‘intro’ turned on in the rhythm. Turn off intro and it doesn’t happen. I’ve told Boss and a few others have too. Hopefully they will iron this out.

I'm interested how to intro and outro works/sounds. Fills and all that. For example if you set the outro to on is ot going to play the outro of you pause the rythem in the middle of a song?

When i play a song i can hear my guitar with a distorsion on my speaker for my voice.... i know how to send a loop on different output, but i dont know how to send my "normal sound" only on my amp when i play without loop. Hi John, Thx for your tutorial. Very helpful. Just starting with the looper and have a question. A basic one. After I record on track 1 my first loop section (by pushing Red/play to start & a second time to loop), I add on track 2 the second one. I think its a matter of timing but I hit the Rec/play button (becomes red) and the recording start, what is fine ... but when I hit a second time to finish, it starts blinking (red) and continues with recording. So the loop becomes double as long as I would like. How can I handle this ?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      Hello Yoeri. 👋
      It’s down to timing but I would say always have the second tap a little big before the bar.

      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David. I’ve been hurling through the manual and the parameter guide for you and testing this out on my own.
      Simple answer - no.
      I’m afraid not. I think that’s a very specific thing you are wanting.. the only way I can think around it, it creating the loops at home and have a second memory which starts at the part you want it to carry on.
      So memory 1 is the same as you would have and then memory 2 is the same chords but you start looping on bar 3/4.. so when you stop the loop, you silently go up a memory and you are ready to kick in at the right moment.
      Now don’t get me wrong, it would be confusing to put down and you would have to watch out for restarts.. but it could work.
      I know this isn’t the answer you wanted but that could be a solution for that one song.

    Beginning looper here and much impressed with your work and the depth of explanation. On your recommendation and to give added control over the RC-600, I purchased the Morningstar MC8. Note I'm not a MIDI user but I love it for the RC600. A couple things I'm running into:
    1. It would be handy to be able to change the RC-600 display screen with your feet, i.e. with one of the 16 assigns. I don't see it but am I missing something?
    2. Having only 16 assigns on the RC-600, and a huge number of options on the MC8, you have to be selective with what you assign.
    I'm hoping these limitations on the RC-600 can be overcome through firmware upgrades from Boss. Do you think these are worthwhile asks?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey 👋
      So yeah it looks like changing the display isn’t one of the options. Maybe they will add it.
      Regarding the assigns. 16 is loads!
      My advice is to put the RC-600 into ‘per memory’ mode and then you can have different buttons and different commands per memory for different songs. If you want to of course.
      The MC8 is a monster of a machine and of course you can send 16 midi messages per button, so you could assign different things per press and multiple things happen.
      Glad you are enjoying it. 👍🏻

    I'm not sure if anyone has asked this yet, but I didn't see anything on it. Is there a way to copy settings between memories? All of the output/mixer settings can be saved to the system, which is great. Having to change every memory to similar settings manually seems like a lot of work if you want the same settings on 10+ memory's. Any input on this would be amazing. And thank you so much for making these tutorials, its amazing how quickly I've learned this thing thanks to you.

      Hi Jillian.
      The simplest way is pick the memory you have all the settings saved to and click to write to the memory but then just turn the dial and save the same memory to a different memory number.
      Once that is done, then scroll to that memory and it will be exactly the same, so you’ll have to give it a different name and get rid of any loops stored but that’s the quickest way directly on the unit. 👍🏻
      Hope that helps.

      Yes the live stream level was low.
      My apologies. Thought I was blowing out the output but it was low pumping into TH-cam.

    You can do everything but saving the systems parmeters to memory…. I tried to save different routings for different songs but it seems that routing is limited for the all system. I would love to be proven wrong…

      I’d love to prove you wrong too in the nicest way possible… but unfortunately you are correct. Routing is system wide.

    Well, it sounds like a tinny piezo, which is “normal” and the mic too low and dry, but all clear sounding. Thanks for the walk through.

    As a software engineer, I have no idea why the idea that 32-bit vs 16-bit has anything to do with audio degradation with overdubs is being circulated by TH-camrs. The fact that both the RC-300 and -600 are digital means there will be no audio quality degradation. However 32-bit allows higher input quality in terms of the precision, essentially, of the recording.

      I am a software engineer and I agree that it's probably more about the total amount of RAM in the units. I could build a very high quality 16 bit audio engine with 100 overdubs, as long as I'm allowed to have at least 512 megs of RAM for loop storage, and a good A/D and D/A and dsp and compressor. What causes the audio degradation in the older units is not only that it's a 16 bit A/D but also that the overdubbing at some point causes artifacts due to the way the overdubs mix, and that IS due to the difference between 16 bit words (maximum range 0..65536 values, of which only 80% of the range is used without getting close to clipping) and and 32 bit float with a range larger than I can easily notate but its in the range of 10E100 different signal levels. Besides overdubbing, it also means huge dynamic range and less artifacts and clipping. You can even implement digital gain and compression without running out of headroom.
      A 32 bit floating point audio engine his huge, and it's as useful here as in the Zoom portable recorders. An older 32 bit ARM processor with a 16 bit A/D might have a mere 128 megs of total system memory, and might have anywhere from 8 to 32 megs of "audio buffer space", which at 16 bit, 48 khz rates, isn't a lot of total memory.

      Kevin, have a look at this video, as I had to educate myself on what on earth is a floating 32bit?

    Thank you for all the time you spent around this unit John Paul. Loved the review! Please keep the info coming. Would be great to have shorter separate vídeos, like (Fx - Turorial+Demo); (Harmonies - Tutorial+Demo); etc. if convenient of course. Nevertheless, thank you so much for the insight and tour 🙏

    Oh, huge amount of info thanks, know just the basics and your videos really help to move along! QUESTION: can I use this as a computer INTERFACE (and record live) with that separate Korg driver/VENDOR MODE ?
    th-cam.com/video/x4b-vcPcrts/w-d-xo.html
    Does it all go in via USB or do I need another interface and 8 plugin cables...? I was planning to record an album with this when I bought it! My MacBookPro though does take only 24 bit in I assume.... ;o ? Thanks for a hint or info on this.

      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey 👋
      So yes you can use it as an interface of two different kinds. If you use it as normal, it sends out a 2in 2Out USB. That’s how i have it for my live streams and just plugs into the computer with the right driver and my Mac sees it on things like my DAW and OBS.
      If you use it in vendor mode it’s an 8in and 8out interface at 32 bit if your DAW can handle it!! Neat eh?!
