Great video! You could trim the rootball and replant it, new leaf shoots will likely come out of the stumps. I did it once and it put out mature, holed and fenestrated leaves straight away. Good luck in your new home, I'd bet that you purposely bought a place with good natural light in mind.

Since you still have good roots, I’ve found out that you can grow a plant back from a situation like what you’re holding at the end of the video. I had a philodendron I had to drastically cut back due to some kind of sickness with the leaves, but I remembered what you said “they always grow back” my philodendron is now putting out baby leaves
That monstera got quite a haircut. 💇♀️😲 I thoroughly enjoyed watching you chopping her up. Please share the newly rooted youngsters. It will be fun to see all the new monstera. Great way to start my day 🌞🌞🌞🌞
Although that was pretty drastic, I understand why you did it. In two months time in your new home you will have more new plants than you know what to do with! 🌱😄💕
I just got a cutting from a leggy, thin, but tall Monstera variegata with one leaf that has no fenestration. I hope to let it grow stronger and better than before-maybe at the same time as you. :D
I did rhis with a Rubber Plant a few years ago..only i just stuck the pot outside to throw in the garden but noticed sprouts coming out. She's 7 ft tall now and lives outside ss long as its not too cold. The hard part is finding a place to put the giant pot in the house in the winter months. 😂 Good luck with your 20 monsters Mr Sheffield and thanks for the video..i have one that looks pretty sad too because its really root bound.
Oh no Monty! Like u said he would not survive the move, but he's always been there 😢 Good luck with the multiple propogations! Good luck with the move too. Am a new plant parent with a growing collection, and everything i've learned from you has been magic, so thank you x
I did the same thing to my monstera, although it was not as glorious as yours. It was in an 8 inch plastic pot. I had to cut the pot to release the plant. When I finally got it out, there was very little soil. It was all perlite and roots. Yikes! Fortunately, mother and babies are fine. Thanks for a great video. Good luck with your move.
I'm actually surprised how few roots there were for such a large monstera. Well, surprised on the fine roots. I would think there would have been more thick roots. Also...I am in love with that orange planter! I think you also have some smaller ones and they just catch my attention every time. I must find some. ❤
Had to do this myself a few days ago. When I woke up this morning, it had dropped on the floor after it drank half the water, making it too top-heavy. Thankfully, the vase didn't break On your previous advice👍🏿

Good morning Mr Sheffield You have talked about him many times and not fitting where he needs to be (next to the light) but good chop and good luck with the babies growing roots.
"Left him as he was", in a bigger pot; near morning sun window. To make repotting easier, I use plastic bags. I fold them, poke them with a needle, put clay marbles in one then, soil and the plant in another one.
Wow it takes great courage to cut down such a big monster(a)! If it were someone else I would screaming 😱, but we believe in you Mr. Sheffield, good luck growing multiple monsteras. 🌿🌱🌿🌱 It’s always after chopping we realise that there is no need for a big chop.😅
I did that to my Monsters Alba, because it had bugs, and all leaves where damaged. I have now 11 Monsteras, ok, still waiting for four to push a new leave.
YIKES! I could never do that to my plants if they were that big or half that size, not even half way through the video but carry on I’ll try to make it through with all my marbles 😂😂😂
OMG. I don't believe I just saw you do that! Good grief. 😮 My monstera actually lives ON my south facing picture window. The window IS its support. The climate here is cool and cloudy, and it and my other plants do very well in the window. Love your videos! 🌺
Richard, you're moving?! I wonder how long THAT will take... Will you have more space for the plant babies? Please keep us posted on how best to proceed with the clippings. I have some overdue philodendrun-monstera pruning to do, too.
My monstera has gone through 2 rounds of thrips. All the leaves have terrible brown insect damage, even the top cut. The last leaf, and biggest (12 fenestrations and 12 perforations) is so insect damaged! I think I have to let it go forever. I don’t think I can even root any of it. I keep putting it off. But seeing you do it, I’m ready. I’m just so sad that none of it can be saved😢
): there is no plant left and I have found that not ALL plants that are chopped grow back I would never do that to my lovely plants even if I was moving ...its taken too long to get them to the point of being large and I prefer very large plants I helped a friend move a 6 foot monstera and we used a Christmas tree bag It worked out great!

Thanks for all the videos! They're really helpful. Question about the moisture metre - when I put mine in a pot to take a reading, the needle always jumps straight up to the moist/wet end of the scale, before slowing dropping back down and settling somewhere nearer the dry end. I'm just wondering if yours does the same, and if so, at what point consider it to be truly indicative of what's going on in the soil? I'm guessing I should be looking at it once it's had a moment to settle, rather than paying attention to that first instant reading?
