When asked to say something that obvious, I'll say it correctly. But I'll pause. That pause is me trying to think of how many different ways being asked what seems like an obvious question might possibly be some sort of trick or trap.

My problem is that I know what I want to say, but I can't put it into words a lot of the time. Basically, I find myself lost for words- literally. My memory with word recall is garbage as is my verbal communication. Most people around me just think I'm soft spoken and shy, but the reason why I don't talk so much is because it's too much work to keep a conversation flowing because of my 'blanks'. I have no idea what's causing this...

I've had a problem with speaking extremely fast and use run on sentences all the time. It has caused me to have a great deal of anxiety when I have to talk. I was bullied alot when I was younger even in my early adult life so I am super self concious when I have to speak which seems to make everything 10x worse. Looking for some type of practice to help me slow down and pronounce the words fully. To all in the comments dealing with any type of issue or disorder, You Are Beautiful 🌻

    • @noahking2451
      @noahking2451 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@Fairy-dx5sl What I started practicing, which really seems to work is
      1. BREATHE/ BREATH WORK (Take a deep breath before speaking and remember its not a race there is no rate at which you need to say what you want to say. Take your time, pace yourself
The more you condition your mind to respond this way eventually ot becomes habitual. Change will not come over night but you will see a difference just by changing the way and depth you breath.
      2. READING
Get into the habit of reading things out loud the dialog in your head I believe tends to be faster in comparison to brain signals to mouth. Reading outloud really gives you the capability to prounounce each syllable, and manage your talkin speed better
      3. Self Esteem
In the process of working on being a better speaker. Value Yourself. your own quirkiness. Know that you are awesome in your own right. You dont need anyones permission or validation.
No need to concern yourself with peoples opinions of you, unless they are truly constuctional which is important for growth.
      4. Practice, Practice, Practice
With loved ones, strangers, start random convesations regardless of how uncomfortable it may be, once you crush your fears and anxieties it gets easier each time.
You can just ask for the time to start off
      Best of Luck
      You got this !

I am an 18 year old in college, and I still struggle with conversions. Speech problems made me have low self-esteem. I had "speech therapy" in elementary school, but it seems like I will forever have speech problems no matter what I do. I read books, I talk to people online/in person, I practice my words, and yet I still have problems with it and not just that, but people judge me or make fun of me for that. Some people view me as a child or not smart enough. Whoever is reading this and they have speech problems, just remember you are not alone. I know it sucks having speech problems, but remind yourself that you are strong and smart. Always love yourself and that it is okay making mistakes when it comes to talking. We do not have filters/autocorrects when we talk. Your flaws in speech are unique.

My mother just recently developed this, she is 49 years old, she cries a lot about it and I feel so powerless to comfort her through this. She feels embarrassed in public and I often speak for her. She thinks she is a burden but I’m willing to adapt and accept this as her normal as she is my mother and will always love her no matter what. But I know that this is something very life changing and irreversible. Is there anything I can do or do you have any advice? It would help so much.

Is it possible to acquire a speech disorder from simply the lack of talking?
If someone were to stop talking for an extended time, years say, would it be possible for them to develop a speech disorder?
    Use it or lose it?

I was shaking sometimes, if u can't really solve this, I just laugh it off b4. Now, I'm sad asf thinking what will happen at the future if someone will bully me again for social anxiety and speech impediments bs. My best advice is laugh off at ur own speech impediments. I've agoraphobia too damn, from now on, I'll laugh off my embarrassing symptoms and embarrassing ugly voice, speech impediments because I think everyone expects that you're perfect in speaking, good hearted, perfect in confidence. listen to me. F*** them all and what they say about u and those doctor cash grabbers😂 Enjoy your life and don't be too hard on ur self. I don't want u to be sad. Life is too short but do good in ur life too. Read out loud when reading a book or read out every sentence in your mind clearly , make sure that you are reading slowly and try to pronounce every word as it is. Do the same when speaking, be very slow , it will take time, maybe years but we have already wasted so much of our time. Let's slow down now. Think before speaking , when you will gain confidence in speaking then you will automatically speak correctly and at the correct rate of speech.

I have a problem where when I talk I tend to jump again. So sometimes instead of saying the dog is running around the park. I would say the dogging is park around the run. I can constantly mixing up words and slurring them together. It’s a huge jumbles mess. Even when writing I do the same thing. I always jumping ahead in what I am saying or say it in the wrong order. I often repeat myself to in a different way without realizing I essentially said the same thing. Any ideas?

My problem is that i can't control my tongue, it's like... When i speak, my tounge feels so heavy to move, and that's make my voice sounds weird, like kinda faster, or change R to L, and stuff like that. But the main problem is I can't control my speak speed (or how do you called it) it feels so annoying when i try to talk, i know what I'm going to say but my mouth can't spell it correctly, i need a self therapy :(

I have speech problems that seem to come and go in phases. Like I might have a few months where I absolutely cannot articulate “str” or “tw” sounds. What’s even worse (or maybe the cause) is I have issues with these sounds when even thinking about saying them (i.e., I stumble in my head). What gives?

@@lhp555 Wish I could say for sure, but I know I help my fluency a ton if I'm well-rested and with a low stress level. But I've also been able to speak publicly with 100% fluency, while also having problems talking to myself when I'm alone. I think it's all a matter of mental state - expecting to speak well produces fluency; expecting to stutter or hesitant produces disfluency. That would explain the 'internal monologue' speech problems in my head, when not even speaking at all 😂

Recently on my birthday some random person wished me "Happy Birthday!" and my response wasn't thank you, I said "Happy Birthday". I'm not a freakin parrot, why did my brain do that? I've definitely have had many past experiences like that tbh. It has given me anxiety, and anxiety does make it worse. I'm on an ssri, but it happens regardless.

I am 15. And I speak...ALOT. Like i love speaking and it does set the mood for the people around me, starts conversations, but I can get pretty annoying.
Despite my desire to speak, people sometimes stare at me weirdly because i have problems with my speech.
    1. I talk way too fast. Sometimes have to repeat words or get made fun of for this reason.
    2. My brain is faster than my mouth is, so I tend to mess up alot of words.
    3. Pronounce words wrongly even though I don't mean to. For example: Hair instead of air or saying chicken instead of kitchen.
    4. Stuttering. There's not one sentence where i dont slurr atleast one of my words or stutter them. Like ffff-football. I drag out letters or just completaly stop talking to calm my brain.
    5. Most of the time I dont even think when I speak, i just let the words flow so that I won't forget what i wanted to stay. (Complete brain fog)
And most importanly, i cant get myself to shut the hell up. If someone mentions one thing that reminds me of another thing. I'll be like "Ooh that reminded me..." and start yapping again.
I get completaly drained afterwards and it makes me feel so ashamed and embarrassed because WHY DO I YAP SO MUCH WHEN I CAN'T EVEN DO IT PROPERLY!?

  • @rocc6596

I've start to slowly realize that I having an issue with my speech as well. I'm not sure what it is but when I speak to someone, I either speak too fast which causes me to trip over my words. Idk if that's what slurring mean but my tongue is like going through a tremor and now i have to put effort into speaking. I repeat what I want to say in my head so I dont mess up. I also blank out a lot or just brain fart while mid conversation or sometimes I have to think for a slight second to say what i was going to say. Idk if its short term memory. I hope this isn't some brain tumor. I use to have like a 3 month of head hypertension like experience a year ago. Anyone having the same problem though? I do have a second language which is Korean if that has to do with anything.
