Amare is a tropical scent featuring notes of: Fruits, Coconut, Spices, Florals, Vetiver, Musk Ambrette, Sandalwood, Oakmoss, Woodsy notes, and vanilla. The overall fragrance opens mildly fruity and nutty before a smooth blend of earth tones brings a complexity and sophistication to the scent. Mrs. Ruds loves this scent for any occasion short of date night. She finds it appealing but short of sexy. Strength of scent is mid, both off the tub and once lathered. Amare is offered in the Karios tallow base. The listed ingredients are: Water, Stearic Acid, Beef Tallow, Castor Oil, Palmitic Acid, Avocado Oil, Glycerin, Cupuacu Butter, Shea Butter, Safflower Oil, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Betaine, IsoStearic Acid, Whey Protein, Goat Milk, Jojoba Oil, Lanolin, Colloidal Oatmeal, Mango Butter, Linoleic Acid, Coconut Milk, Ethylhexyl Olivate, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Allantoin, Sodium Lactate, Sunflower Lecithin, Caprlyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Gluconate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Tocopherols, Silk peptides. The soap base is mid firm and loads mindlessly easy into your brush of choice, regardless of fiber type. The base is thirsty, but not extremely thirsty. It is intuitive to dial in and work with. When dialed in, the resulting lather is similar in consistency to cold sour cream. Primary and residual slickness are elite, allowing the razor to glide along unimpeded. Post shave is where this base shines though, the post shave is elite and among the most luxurious and nourishing that I’ve come across. Given the pure luxury experience and metrics, Grooming Dept Karios tallow receives a ShaveScore of 102, the highest ShaveScore to date. For similar performance in a base, I suggest Ariana & Evans.

Yes! When I got this, before Kaizan was handed out to everyone, I did a live shave and said this soap would be the first to break 100 and I was technically correct. Nice review brother I've been waiting for this confirmation for a while.

On your recommendation I was finally able to get my hands on a Grooming Dept. soap, Chypre Peach (Kairos base). I've got to say that either Mohammad is, as you say, a genius, or he's made a deal with the devil. But whatever he's doing I can honestly say the result is the shave of a lifetime. This has to be considered a "soap of the year", and Mohammad a true master maker. Thanks, as always!

Ruds Shaves She did a good job. My wife is a better paint than me and has painted most of the walls in our newest house. I’ve had to do the sucky areas stooped down on my hands and knees (baseboards, interior of china cabinet, etc).
As usual, I agree with your score. It and Wholly Law’s new base are tops for me. I have A&E’s Kaizen base arriving today so looking forward to it as well. Great time to shave!

Nice to see your daughter's participation, Ruds, and to imagine the sense of involvement and accomplishment she probably gets. In my opinion, that's part of what leads to minors recognizing the goodness of being producing participants, rather than passive outsiders. I think it registers inside them and forms a bit of a base that can be built on as they grow and develop that self-image.
And that shaving soap, as always in your reviews, really sounds irresistible. I would at least like to find a sample to buy, instead of purchasing a tub and, in that way, contributing to my path to "debtors' prison." I'll check the maker's website. Thanks for the enticement, Ruds. And tell your daughter that some people would like her autograph, please.

Having tried both, which is the fastest soap to lather between the Kaizen and the Kairos? Which one needs the least amount of water to reach a good lather?
Kaizen is slicker while Karios requires less water.

I'm surprised it topped Kaizen. Could you mention what aspects of the soap base you thought was superior to Kaizen?
Slightly longer lasting post shave. It’s getting really hard to discern any difference. We are fortunate consumers.

Great shave, Ruds! Was curious what would happen with Shave Scores once we got to 100 and now we know! I'm interested by your comments of this not being finicky like some of the other elite-class soaps... that's my major gripe with Barrister and Mann Excelsior base! I find that when you get it perfect it's awesome but it's really tough to get it perfect if you change to different soaps daily as I do. If you hydrate it not quite enough, it sucks all the moisture off your face even though it looks okay shaving and then if you hydrate it more you're lathering for 10 minutes. I'm finding more and more that "easy-to-use" is important to me and it sounds like Grooming Department has figured this out.
