For a crisp $100 bill! What you're doing is awesome. You do legit deals with young kids but you don't drive hard bargains. Letting youngsters get a foothold, have a positive experiences should only grow the hobby into the future. Kudos Geoff.

I know it’s fun to see.. but I honestly question how healthy it is for children to be walking around with THOUSANDS of dollars buying stuff… honestly… when I was a kid, id have been glad to have 50 bucks to buy stuff..
If they earned it themselves, hey that’s cool… I still don’t know if they can grasp how volatile something like paper CARDS can be when you’re talking this kinda money… a child can’t fully comprehend what it’ll mean if a major shift happens in world markets.. they could lose everything…

It’s crazy when I was a kid I was lucky to get a pack a month! Tons of my cards when i was a kid we’re handy downs from my cousin that were worth nothing but it meant so much to me! Seeing a ton of cool players on cards that I would just admire even if it was a 1 cent card 😂

kid in end got the better deal. curry topps chrome refractor (psa 10) and trout topps chrome refractor black (psa 10) is better than the tlaw downtown (psa 10) and acuna/ohtani dual auto (bgs 9.5/auto 10). we dont' know how good of a career Ohtani, acuna, and tlaw will do in their careers, where curry and trout's careers has been established (total for curry/trout: 4 chips, 5 mvps, 20 all-stars) and WILL 100% be in HOF.

As a kid in the 80s all i did was buy. I never sold a thing. I bought the junk wax. Best card i pulled myself was Ken Griffey jr upper deck rc out of the high series on one pack.

I completely agree. I think that card was extremely over valued. I see it being a 10-12k card max. Plus. Not like he traded some unproven kid for the Ohtani/Acuna, he traded a guaranteed first ballot HOF’r and best shooter in NBA history’s refractor RC

I remember when I was collecting in the late 90's a Canseco RR was an expensive card for kids at $60. Now these kids are in the 100's and 1000's. How times have changed.

The Curry will be a good long term hold imo. But, neither one of those cards would be ones I would wish to part ways with anytime soon.
I started collecting in 1975. Stopped in the low 2000s and started again this year. Good to see it coming back. Missed the big bucks a few years ago but it all rolls back.
And yes I have all my cards still. Not sold or tossed them. Lol
Dude with the Ohtani/Acuna made a smart trade, direct saless/more data = more liquid, especially to a National dealer where he can go flip into other stuff.

Max Verstappen is currently leading as the best driver at the mo, but the G.O.A.T.? what about Michael Schumacher, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Fernando Alonso and many, many others
If Max races as long as Schumacher he will be the GOAT, but until then Schumacher is the GOAT, problem is his cards are not as sought-after as Max
You need to remember, most f1 fans from the US are brand new to the sport. Most only know of Max and Lewis. So, their initial ignorance is more of an onus on not even having a clue who the greats of F1 past are.
@@flogtwoI was going to comment the same exact thing. But, as my comment said. I think the main issue is 99 percent of American F1 fans are brand new to watching the sport and have no idea who Schumacher or many other of the sports true legends are. Currently, it’s Schumacher and not up for debate.

@@brockman562 a dual on card auto RC of two future HoF who are about to win MVP's in the same year is WAY cooler than a chrome refractor RC lol. It really isn't close in terms of which one is cooler. Jeff could literally flip that card in November and buy back a Curry chrome refractor RC and be up a few thousand if he wanted.

It’s crazy to see the overall value of sports cards and the inevitable progression the market has seen with values. Reading a lot of the comments, all of us 70/80/90’s kids can look back on the days when most cards were under $100. Yeah there was anomalies and cards that had their premiums, but the overall market is so inflated with a premium on almost every player. In the 90s, each hobby had a handful of guys that could guarantee $5-10 for a great card. Now, there’s 50 plus players from each hobby that have $100+ cards and some even being base. Anyhow, it’s great to see the hobby boom, I just hope these kids are not running in to shady collectors who try to fleece them. Most of the kids seem very sharp and up to the moment on stuff, which reminds me of myself when I was hitting shows every month when I was a kid. It’s great to see the boom, but I definitely think the hobby needs a wake up call about the pricing, most “normal” families are not going to be able to rip packs and pull a 10k card. My hope is the mark of set collecting comes back and the true love of collecting takes hold. It isn’t about having a 1:1 or high end product ( Don’t get me wrong, that’s great ) but about chasing even the trash Jeromy Burnitz from 1999 Topps to complete the set.
I guess what it comes down to, is the overall inflation and bubble the market is in currently. When we were kids, most Jordans were not over $50 and that is being VERY generous and he is the goat, no debate from all of us who have seen both play ;) Cheers to everyone who stuck around the hobby and kept it afloat all these years and cheers to those taking losses on trades to make the kids feel like they are the winner in a trade every single time. Because that’s what it’s all about.

A good trade for both imo. Ohtani/Acuna is a great duel auto for sure, but Curry and Trout are both liquid cards as well and solid long term holds.
Stop. Just stop. If either player tanks right now, then they are not HOF’r. Both have had hot starts on their big league careers, but by no means are both HOF’rs as a guarantee. The BBWAA are the worst voters in the history of the sport and some of the best players of a generation did not and will not get in to the HOF. So neither of these guys are certain HOF baseball players as we sit here today.

I absolute love the hobby but the card world has gotten ridiculous. Prices so far beyond the reach for the average collector or sports fan. $1000.00 for certain mega or blaster boxes? Retailers should not be allowed to buy a box for $10 then turn around and sell it for 100x only for the possibility of a decent card hit. Imagine a kid who has found his passion and wants to save for an $800 Blaster box. only to find out when he has enough money that the price is now $1500.00 Its outlandish. Individual card values is one thing. Dont up-charge the entire set based on that one card. Sad and sickening.
U could possibly have a card with 2 2023 MVP’s on one card but I think someone else deserves it more on a playoff bound team
Hey guys just want to give some advice to us regular guys in the hobby going to do deals. Be firm and stern. Never ask "will you do/would you do etc" type questions about a price the other might accept. I figure most sports cards guys are on the more nice spectrum of people and time after time I see sharks like this dude getting everything he wants and it's because he's a shrewd business man not just a card collector. Try not be intimidated and stick to your guns!
I respect you Jeff but you should have NEVER gotten rid of the steph curry. I know as you read this you are regretting that trade, I just know it.

@@ut_sportsfan very true. The dual auto is a gamble as just one of them slowing down will hurt the value… which is likely going to happen since they are both MVP front runners. At this pace though it’s like potentially having a babe ruth/Mickey mantle dual auto.
