    Hey, just subscribed. I'm glad someone finally explained what Lovecraft actually meant instead of going, "wow, weird angles spooky."

      Thanks and welcome. And yeah, Lovecraft is often deeper than even his fans give him credit for.

    Fantastic video. I was dimly grasping what Lovecraft was going for, but your explanation helped to confirm my understanding.

    The geometry may be non-euclidean, but the fun is real!

    There's a video game called Hyperbolica that helps visualize various non-Euclidean geometry projections. There are dev videos on YT showing off those distortions.

    Lovecraft was literally addicted to mathematics, especially the concept of different level of infinites lol

      I’m glad. I was trying to strike a balance between technical accuracy and depth on the one hand, and still appealing to non-mathematicians on the other.

    Thank you for this video. As a gemstone cutter and a Lovecraft lover, Dreams in the Witch House and non-Euclidean geometry have always peaked my interest. Manipulating geometry and light paths is the fundamental role of my job, so thinking about how light moves in alternative kinds of space is very interesting. I really liked the camera footage demonstrating spherical and hyperbolic spaces. That was a good demonstration for our imagination.

    That animation looked as if the cube travelled through non-Euclidean space.

    Just discovered this video and the video you had at the end with the shed was incredibly helpful in demonstrating the points raised, even if it's not entirely accurate as you yourself admitted. As a longtime Call of Cthulhu Keeper, I'm going to find this very helpful for my future adventures.

    I love the lightning and thunder at the beginning! I'm glad you can think without the influence of substances. I love your walk through the park--I want a camera like yours! You actually make Geometry sound interesting--I might have actually learned something if I had you for a teacher. You should make Millions of dollars for your intelligence and ability to explain things well and with humor--Love it! Well done!

    Thank you for your explanation. For the longest time I imagined black spheres whenever Lovecraft mentioned non-Euclidian geometry but I didn't know what it meant.

      Not too far off, really.

    Liked & subscribed. I appreciated your thoughtful analysis of the topic, Bob. There are at least two episodes of the original _Twilight Zone_ that have always struck me as related in different ways to the subject at hand: "Little Girl Lost" and "And When the Sky Was Opened", both of which, not so coincidentally, happened to be favorites of mine. There is a more explicitly Lovecraft-themed tale in the 1986 _TZ_ reboot entitled "Gramma", which actually features the _Necronomicon._

      I know I’ve seen them (I’ve seen the whole series), but now I need to rewatch those and refresh my memory.

    This might sound a bit silly, but do you have an opinion about the question why is there something rather than nothing? Also, awesome video! I loved it

      Thanks!
      Despite best efforts, I don’t think anyone really has a good answer to that question. I really have more questions than opinions on the matter.

      Actually everything is emptiness! Our universe is just a projection/imputation!
      To simplify: imagine a hologram like the ones in sci-fi such as star trek and star wars. In their comunication equipments they project the image of the persons that are chatting, but everything is made of light particles that are arranged in specific positions that looks like the person in the comunication device, but in truth, they are just mere particles of light that represent the person.
      Our reality is exactly like this! If you look down the structure of matter, the protons, electrons and protons that make your body are exactly like the ones in the computer or any other object, and if you look even further smaller structures you'll realize that they are even more the same. If everything is equal, then everything is empty (empty of suchness, empty of nature or inherent meaning), just like the fotons that compose the hologram are empty (because they are all the same) such is the structure of all reality itself.
      And the most astounding thing of this is that you can actually rewire your brain to perceive things as empty without imputing meaning in them you practice meditation seriously.
      Here then,
      Form is no other than emptiness,
      Emptiness no other than form.
      Form is only emptiness,
      Emptiness only form.
      Feeling, thought, and choice,
      Consciousness itself,
      Are the same as this.
      All things are by nature void
      They are not born or destroyed
      Nor are they stained or pure
      Nor do they wax or wane
      So, in emptiness, no form,
      No feeling, thought, or choice,
      Nor is there consciousness.
      No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body,
      mind;
      No colour, sound, smell, taste,
      touch,
      Or what the mind takes hold of,
      Nor even act of sensing.
      No ignorance or end of it,
      Nor all that comes of ignorance;
      No withering, no death,
      No end of them.
      Nor is there pain, or cause of pain,
      Or cease in pain, or noble path
      To lead from pain;
      Not even wisdom to attain!
      Attainment too is emptiness.

      Beyond my level of understanding except to know they’re still working on the idea. There is a certain elegance to the idea of unification in physics, though.
