Unfortunately, there are bullies on the play ground, and if you don't deal with them, they will keep doing what they are doing. America has to deal with its problems and take leadership over the rest of the world. The most powerful countries have to be democracies, we can't allow regimes to surpass us. So its not bullying by America, its protection of the entire free world.

I don't always agree with Doug Ford, but he is 100% correct when he states that countries like China are the only winners in a trade war between the U.S. and Canada.
If the U.S. impose tariffs on car parts from Canada, that means U.S. automakers will buy more parts from China. If Canada imposing retaliatory tariffs on American oranges or orange juice, that means Canadians grocery store shelves will be filled up with Chinese oranges and orange juice instead. If the U.S. puts a tariff on Canadian oil that just means that Americans will be filling their tanks with gasoline that originated as Venezuelan or Saudi Arabian oil. etc. etc.
The only counties that win in a trade war are the countries that aren't involved. If the U.S. embarks in a trade war with Canada, the losers will be both Canada and the U.S. If the U.S. embarks in a trade war with the European Union, the losers will be the U.S. and the European Union. If the U.S. embarks in a trade war with China, the losers will be the U.S. and China.

The US has a massive arms industry that exports arms and especially to what were formerly called its allies. So when any country boosts its defence spending a lot of that money goes to the US arms industry by buying overpriced jets for example. So basically it’s a wealth transfer to the US. Special forces equipment from USA (that way one would never be able to tell US and Canadian special forces apart when they are roaming around red states. Civilian clothes from Walmart(hence China) and again no one would know that those good ole boys in MAGA hats from Arkansas are special forces from the great white North. Ok, enough of being silly. But truth be told, we share the longest undefended border in the world for two reasons: don’t need to defend it cause we’re friends and it is also indefensible in BOTH directions. Enough of the silly talk arguing about who’s is bigger.

This situation is not new. It was also proposed when Trudeau the father was the PM. He had at that time, a plan To diverse his trade out of USA. However, shortly later the Canadian economy became more relayed to the USA. Nevertheless, we have a problem now , but the Canadian problem is nothing compared to the American problem, which will be created by Mr. Trump.
This is a wake-up call to Canadian . And bye the way, to apply tariff, it won't start immediately. It will take time to create a system . Canada has the option to find new partners.
And Canadian politicians, please stop bagging for mercy from Trump. The more you do that, the more he harms you. It is very clear , Mr. Trump doesn't care about Canadian. It looks like your neighbor is bullying you to take your house, or he promises you to suffer .

I am surprised how our Canadian leaders are dealing with this situation. President Trump is dehumanizing Canada people and leaders. He and Elon Musk are both narcissists. Canada is in a strong proportion. Trade partners are everywhere. The resources Canada has are highly required . Instead of reminding Trump to the relationship, start looking out of the box. Go out of your cozy comfort zone, pull up your sleeves and find other trad partners, start making deals, and increase the price of Canadian products that are exported to the USA. Canada can join the EU or form a union with Australia and New Zealand . This is how you approach a bully. Strong plan for better position

Trump and America loves Canada too, which is why we want to merge the two countries and get you out from that oppressive Monarchy. When your king is an unelected head of state, that's not a democracy. We don't wanna see your economy collapse into a great depression with the tariffs, which is why Trump is offering statehood. We're tariffing all countries to force everything to be made in the US like it used to be.

    • @melissadawkins4907
      @melissadawkins4907 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

@guncontrolisusingbothhands5177 all of that says you don't understand our country at all. Or that we don't have this resentment to the UK or monarchy as you guys seem to still be hung up on. Trump doesn't love Canada. He doesn't respect or love our country in anyway. And this would be a hostility toward us. We don't see it as anything but insulting. I am a conservative Canadian. And though I was happy that your election brought in a strong Republican vote. I no longer have support for trump as he doesn't respect my country and our sovereignty. We don't have to merge to do anything. We never had to before. And this is more about trading in our independence for slavery to a country. Giving up our sovereignty is giving up our independence and rights. Something that we actually have as a country that was given independence from the crown as a common wealth country. Every country that gained their independence has had the right to form their own government and has been respected as their individual rights to govern their own nation. So everything you said was really just deceptive. And manipulation. Also statements with little understanding of our amount of independence from the crown to govern ourselves. We as Canadians don't agree with policies your country has and reserve the right to act independently. Conservative government in Canada would be a great leadership for us. Just as Republicans are best for you at this time. Respectfully though. We should be not going through trade wars when working together is always been possible before and respecting our sovereignty over our lands shouldn't be an issue. Trade deals should not be now an issue. And when you have a state on fire it's your allies that come running. Your own states don't show unity and come running to put it out. There's no time where you guys have a national disaster that we don't come to your aid. And each time you struggle to aid your own people. You often spend time arguing over if you should care for your own people in disaster relief. So why would Canadians who don't have to argue to show you guys mercy in disaster relief or help put out a fire. Want to join you so you can take our resources. You can do fairness at the bargain table for those resources. Each nation started out with a fair amount of resources. But we had depended on you guys to refine the materials we traded to you. That was our mistake over the years. And liberals blocked our progress to build our own refineries and ability to create better business. We sold our resources cheaply to America. Under better leadership it's time to build our own people and businesses not trade down and let our nation be squandered further and ruled by a nation that would not care for our people. You guys don't even care for your own people. Each state wouldn't even send help to another state.

For Canada, the most effective response is to develop its trade with other countries with the aim of reducing its exports to USA to not more than more than 10%. If Canada can achieve this goal, then Canada will have no fear of US tariff on its products.

I agree that Canadian subsidies need to stop. There was a time when we used to make the equipment our troops used. But ever since the 1960s practically every aircraft our air force has flown has been built in an American plant. All that money we’ve poured into the pockets of American workers. All that money we’ve poured into those communities. All that money we’ve poured in to boost the bottom line of American corporations. I guess when DT says Canada needs to spend more on defence, he really means we need to pour more money into American pockets. These subsidies have to stop. Maybe we should subsidize Sweden’s factories and buy their Gripen aircraft or pour money into Ukraine and buy their ever so good tank busting drones. Maybe we should get back to making our stuff and stop all those subsidies just like DT says we should.

We don’t have much defence because we are a huge country with a very small population. What Trump fails to mention though is that at the end of the day, it is in the best interests of the US to protect Canada. Think about it. If Canada were to be invaded, the most likely scenario would be Russia, or maybe perhaps China. Who would the US rather have as a neighbour? Russia or Canada? One hates the US and has nuclear weapons. The other shares the same language and values as Americans, and does not have nukes. As an American, who would you rather have as your neighbour?

To explain to Canadians that the 2016 drywall tariffs originated from Canadian actions, not Donald Trump or the U.S., it’s essential to clarify the timeline and context of events:
    1. Origin of the Tariffs
The drywall tariffs were imposed by Canada, not the United States. In September 2016, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) introduced anti-dumping duties on drywall imported from the U.S. into Western Canada. This was in response to complaints from Canadian drywall manufacturers alleging that U.S. exporters were selling drywall at unfairly low prices, which harmed the domestic industry.
    2. Canada’s Trade Remedy Mechanisms
Canada has its own trade enforcement processes under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), allowing domestic industries to request investigations into unfair trade practices, such as dumping or subsidies. The CBSA and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) independently reviewed the matter and decided to impose provisional and later permanent tariffs. This was a decision entirely initiated and managed by Canadian authorities.
    3. Timeline Predates Trump Presidency
The drywall tariffs were implemented in September 2016, months before Donald Trump became president in January 2017. Therefore, these measures were not a result of Trump’s trade policies or rhetoric.
    4. Canadian Industry’s Role
The tariffs were specifically a response to a complaint from CertainTeed Gypsum Canada, a domestic drywall producer, which petitioned for protection from alleged dumping by U.S. competitors. It was a Canadian business seeking trade remedies within Canada’s legal framework.
    5. Localized Nature of the Dispute
Unlike major trade disputes such as those involving softwood lumber or steel and aluminum tariffs, the drywall tariffs were relatively niche and geographically focused on Western Canada. They did not escalate to broader U.S.-Canada trade relations or involve high-level political figures like Trump.
By presenting this explanation, it becomes clear that the drywall tariff issue was a Canadian-led action to address concerns from its own industry, separate from U.S. politics or Trump’s policies.

Canada is a huge country with an extremely small population. It is extremely unrealistic to think that Canada can spend as much as the US does. And let’s be honest, if Canada were to be invaded, it would not because they have enemies. It is because the US has lots of enemies who want to get close.
