I hate it because there’s no space in between the F group keys , even though I loved typing on it. The only keyboard I found that has similar types of keys, is backlit, and has some space between the groups of F keys is the Dell Premier Collaboration KB900.
As you like K800, just buy a small adapter from USB C to micro USB and enjoy. All your complaints are from your habit of using K800. You love it. There is no need to change it because of the cable.
So true! That’s what I’ve been thinking. Keep the K800 and get a micro usb to usb c adapter. Maybe I’ll do that 😊 The keyboard still works great, even after using it for so many years 🎉
I've just returned MX Keys S as well. When buying I was unaware of the bizarre keys' layout (for a Windows user) which totally ruined my experience. I was unable to write an e-mail without at least 10 mistakes. No Win key is also a turn off for me. The final nail to the keyboard's coffin was the forever buggy Logi Options + app, which I was unable to launch for ~30 minutes and then I gave up. Sorry to say that, but it's a bad keyboard for Windows users IMO. But I love the MX mice - they're fantastic
Thank you for your video it is very helpful. I appreciate your honest review and I really can understand your point of view. Mine arrived today. The previous one I have is the solar keyboard from Logitech. I loved the feel of the keys so much that I could go back to a regular keyboard. I am hoping I won’t be disappointed since I am not really using the function keys that much. Thank you again. Writing from Haiti.
I'm really glad that you mentioned the issue with the function keys. That always gives me the screaming heebies on any laptop, especially as different laptops have different methods of turning on function lock. I want my F2 key to rename things, not send an e-mail. I want my F5 key to refresh things, not bring up an emoji picker. I want F9 to recalculate, not mute my sound. Also, while I am glad to see that the waste of space that is the Scroll Lock key has gone in favour of the device switch keys... it has taken the Pause/Break and Print Screen key with it.
On the Signature Slim K950 Logitech have compensated touch typists for losing the spaces after F4, F8 & F12 by adding a very small raised "bump" in the top right of these keys. Can't help feeling that a raised "bar", as on F, J & #5, would have been better. Personally I have added a small piece of sticky plastic on them, looks awful but is easily removed and they are easily discernible.
I switched to a mechanical keyboard with red Outemu switches. I love how it sounds and the extra travel with every key press. But it just slows me down. After using it for almost two years, I'm going back to non mechanical keyboards. I just purchased the MX Keys S today. I don't use the function keys that often and I heard that it's battery life is excellent. Plus I'm already used to the Logi+ software with my MX3 mouse.
I switched to a mechanical keyboard a few years back and I love the linear switches over the butterfly switches. Great video, and killer B Roll, that opening shot was chef's kiss!
I keep going back to the mechanical keyboards but I dislike how loud they are. I’ve really become accustomed to the K800 keyboard. Thankfully I have two so when one fully dies, I’ll have a backup… which I haven’t tested in a while. Does it even work? 😅
I agree with every word you said. I had to drop the idea of buying this keyboard. Also, it lacks rgb, paying around $100 just to see only one white light. Also, the keyword is too long for me. They should have a 3rd version, which they could have placed between the mini and this full-size keyboard, like a 96/100 key keyboard. It makes the keyword look very compact and practical without compromising on the numpad.
Did you ever find a "decent" replacement for the K800? I'm still using mine, but the battery is starting to go, so I have to keep it plugged in a lot more than I used to... I fear the day it goes out completely...
The best price at the time I bought it was at Best Buy. I bought it through my membership which allows me to return up to 60 days. I think I returned it on day 58.
Might consider looking at Keychron K5 Pro or Max if you must have a full 100% layout with space between function keys; otherwise the NuPhy Air96 might be an interesting option to look into as a traveling companion with a number pad. Both are slim mechanicals with adjustable feet in back, but Air96 has more interesting switch options. Hipyotech did a review on the Air96 recently.
I have the Keychron K5 Pro and I just don't enjoy it. Coming from Apple Macbooks, typing on a mechanical is just painful for me. I bought it precisely for the gaps between F-keys but I don't like it. Nobody makes a full size wireless low profile keyboard with gaps.
@@kloakovalimonada it’s starting to sound like I need to keep and highly maintain my K800. I’ve tested a few others since posting this video and haven’t taken in love with one, yet.
Considering "slim design" and "low noise" were two key features he was looking for, I don't think he'd like the DAS keyboard. Plus there's a much more competitive landscape nowadays than when DAS literally was _the_ mechanical keyboard fifteen years ago. I would never consider a DAS today when there are so many other custom and semi-custom options that do it as good or better for cheaper.
Great points! Thanks for jumping in to let me know what you think about the DAS keyboard. I've just recently started looking into changing my keyboard after about 10 years of using the same one. I'm definitely not a keyboard enthusiast, so all of the options have been been an... adjustment 😅
The function buttons defaulting to shortcuts is common on all laptop keyboards. You can switch it back to function buttons again by pressing fn key + fn lock (usually left shift key or esc key)
I normally don't use my laptop keyboard and will always travel with an external keyboard. My hands keep hitting the trackpad and move the mouse around, and I also love having a full size keyboard with the number pad. You're right, for laptop keyboards, the fn+left shift works. Though, I didn't find that worked for me with the Logitech MX Keys S. However, I learned (after returning the keyboard) the fn lock is done by pressing fn+esc on the MX Keys S. Good to know!
Mushy might be my vibe. I really like how quiet and soft they are. The MX Keys S are also really soft, especially when compared to the Logitech mechanical keyboard (or any mechanical keyboard haha).

Thank you for very useful review. I used K800 too. K800 is a real legend. Perfection.
K800 is the GOAT! 🙌

I’d love to hear what you think after using the keyboard for a few weeks. I hope you enjoy it and it works out for you! 🙏

fn+esc switch between f keys and media keys. the only thing in your opinion that applies to other people is about adjustable legs
fn+esc?! Wow… I was today years old when I learned that. Thanks!
It literally has "fn" in a padlock symbol right there on the escape key to denote "function lock," even.

How are you able to return it after 2 months? Is the return period in the US 60 days? Here in the UK it is usually 30 days.

The K800 and MX Keys S don't sound similar at all, to my ears. The K800 sounds mushy.

Not being able to adapt to the new kayboard sounds like a ¨you problem.¨
