Can’t wait to watch all of the episodes. Mental health is so under discussed in the United States. Unbelievably, we still stigmatize mental health and too many people consider therapy, and even medication, to be a sign of weakness.
There’s a non-profit in my area started by a Stanford educated psychiatrist and public health professional. His mission was to address the mental health crisis in youth and adolescents by making psychiatry and therapy accessible to all, specifically by accepting insurance and not turning away those without means. That’s practically unheard of in the United States. I, and my family, have been patients at BACA since practically its inception and it has been a, literal, lifesaver. I would love to see them profiled. And if you ever want to do an episode on how NOT to address mental health, just visit anywhere in the US (sadly).

This was a very great documentary. I'm also from Argentina, and nowadays is pretty common to talk about seek therapy, but is still disregarded among people from certain ages (such as 40 to 60, for example).
Sadly, it is also common to hear how, even though there are so many therapists/psychologist in tbe country, they feel like there is not enough in a lot of areas. I live in a province that is not Buenos Aires, and in a town that is not the capital of said province, i have been in therapy for years and i had the access to it thanks to the public health secretary. Everyone i had the pleasure to meet where nothing but kind, great and patient, and sadly, underpaid. In the public mental health center of a town that has +70k of ppl (and attends patient from other areas of the province and also other citizens from border countries like Paraguay), they have 10 therapist and only one psychiatrist (which all eleven of them also works in the public hospitals too, and some also work in private areas).
Is a complex situation, and a lot of things can be criticized (how the state paids their workers, for example), the schedules (how many months you have to wait for first appointments, the abrupt cancellations over the burnout the therapist end up having due to the increased demand) and so on. Yet all the therapist i have meet are great workers, have great feedbacks, and the stigma of 'seek therapy' has continued changed to a holistic view among the society.
Hope more people can watch this episode, and I'm looking forward for the rest of the episodes ad well. Great job Al Jazeera!

This is fascinating. I wonder how the trend will affect things like community activism and approaches to education, especially in the future.

if you want to google some of that, I'd recommend avoiding the word 'activism', the equivalent there is 'militancia' and for community activism, rather google 'asambleas barriales' which were big in early 2000s, and are sort of making a return to relevance today.

I heard they are mostly into Psychoanalysis in Argentine, which is not really evidence-based, but much rather amounts to a pseudoscience.
