    Now I know why our marriage's annulment was a slam dunk (one of the easiest to grant, my ex was told). I went into the marriage knowing nothing about what it meant, and to have someone love ME because I had felt abandoned and ignored by my parents. I was so, so selfish. This video should be shown in EVERY marriage prep. 28 years after the annulment, I finally get it. 😞 Lord have Mercy. He's remarried, I'm still not.

      Your honesty and humility is refreshing.
      May the Lord bring someone faithful into your life that will make you know that you are loved.

    I'm uniquely fortunate to belong to a parish that stresses the TLM and a conservative approach to the faith, orthodoxy. However, I'm quite grateful to Sensus Fidelium for providing me with teachings of theology that I could not afford at my nearby Catholic University. Thank you for not dumbing down the dogma unnecessarily since many parishioners are not only interested in theology but well-equipped to receive its teachings. Ora et Labora!

    After listening to this, I am sure I am guilty of self love more than I thought. I wonder about charity though, say when people drop in unannounced, and you may need to leave to go to work, or an appointment, and you have mentioned this several times to them to no avail. This can lead to false guilt, that you are being selfish or uncharitable, when in fact life can become chaotic and stressful, with the worry of it. This is what occurs in my life, and I feel I'm being selfish, yet because this person refuses to phone ahead or make a time that is convenient, it's practically driven me to feel unable to operate at all, with a guilt of my selfishness. Obviously this is disordered thinking, yet many may become confused about what is self love and what is not. Boy do I need help.

    • @kathykeefe2079
      @kathykeefe2079 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My dear sister in Christ I understand your desire to grow in holiness and want to encourage you.___Complete abandonment only happens through God's grace and is a process, it is not something we can make happen.The awareness you already have that it is God's grace that allows us to awake each morning is a gift to be thankful for! One step at a time is what works for me Margo. Start where you are, God will direct your path if you ask Him. Start with the basics and pray God will send you a good spiritual director. Most of us are not going to turn into saints over night. I have had many dark and difficult times in my life and God has brought good out of it but I didn't enjoy going through those times at all. Spiritual growth in my life happened without realizing it until later. Be encouraged and relax in the knowlege that you are loved by the God who created you and He will direct your path if you ask Him. I will pray for you. +

    I've written extensively about this... In psychological terms, Jesus' message can be summed up as "be outer-directed." When the Bible says "The love of money is the root of all evil," I believe it's talking about a manifestation of self love. Its not money that people love it's what money can do for them.

    • @marvalice3455
      @marvalice3455 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jesus message is to be God centered.
      Money is good, _if_ used for God. Paul says love of money is idolatry, so if you love money for itself own sake, that is worse than loving it for your sake.

    What is meant by the title, "Sensus Fidelium" on the You Tube publishing of the above presentation? Does it only mean not being able to remember your own reflection in the mirror as soon as you leave it in order to gather data about all others? If so -- Thank god then those 'benign' narcissists are not all census takers hired by the governments. Come to think of it -- Isn't that what god warned king David not to ever do in the first place in hiring census takers to count the number of believers under his control?

    God is love means God is charity means God is self sacrificing love - look at the Crucifix - self sacrificing love. He who sees Me sees the Father. Whenever you hear God is love from this point forward remember God, the Holy Trinity, is self-sacrificing love and the same self-sacrificing love is expected from us. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph are the best examples of self sacrificing love to follow. If you perceive that someone has offended you, offer this offense to God for the salvation of that person's soul - this is just one example of self sacrificing love.

      Patrick, stay in the catholic faith in the catholic church in communion with the Vatican. Mother church assumes all of the mistakes its members have made. Do not worry. Just stay in the church the Lord created, the only church, be obedient, pray and offer sacrifices for the Pope, Bishops and all priests.

    What father describes sounds likes today’s narcissism. Satan had ego problems .

      Narcissism is just the lay term for what he is describing.
      Psychologists get really bent out of shape about it, because they think regular people mean what the psychologist calls narcissism, but we actually mean this.

    Why does Father Ripperger use "Holy Ghost" rather than "Holy Spirit"? "Spirit" is more true to the Latin "spiritus"

    • @marvalice3455
      @marvalice3455 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's only because of the curse of babel. English ghost used to be even closer than spirit, because of reasons related to the way English formed.
      Ghost only became a specific term for spirits of the dead in the last 60 or so years.

    The true SELF is the reflection of GOD within us. There's the ego, and then there is the Self.
    The way these so-called holy men like to create a feeling of worthlessness and self-loathing is really pissing me off. It's nothing but psychopathic narcissists trying to tell people how to think.

      Your uncivil, uncouth expression of your anger is enough to show your source of spirituality is most tainted. It certainly takes ego to be so fussy.

      It is not to create a sense of worthlessness. It is to create an understanding of our need for God and dependence upon Him for all good things. God does not want us to feel worthless. The devil does. However, God DOES want us to come to Him as a child to a loving Father. P.S. - You must abandon freemasonry to come to Christ. Jesus will help you.

      Exactly....the ego(pride) is a distorting lens to avoid suffering to the mind from reality.

      So, do you _really_ think you are reflecting Christ, who let himself be crucified for your sins, if you won't even mortify yourself?
      Mortification is not self loathing. Not even a little. Rather, you cannot love yourself if your passions are not subjected to your will.

    So, a *priest* goes on (and on and on) about how criticizing priests is *sinful* and *solipsistic*, and asserts that we should just accept that they know best about everything and should not be questioned ever, because God (and Tradition).
    Huh.
    Sounds as if someone has a "Problem with Self" here, and it's not the laity. Are the people at Mass there to worship God, Chad, or you?

      this is the case with traditionalist catholics. if it were up to them, they'll end the secular state and bring back mass burning of witches.

      Firstly, "Someone has a "Problem with Self" here, and it's not the laity" doesn't logically follow. Even granting that Fr. Ripperger is an immanentist (which he never claimed not to be), it does not follow that many laity are not also. So, more to the point - as Fr. Ripperger's personal holiness is, of itself, irrelevant to me - is what he says true? I would argue yes, that many laity, myself included, do fall into unjustly judging priests.
      To phrase it differently, given the possibility that some laity are guilty of this form of judgement against priests, does it become null because a priest points it out? Priests/spiritual directors are in the tricky position of trying to help others reach holiness when they are not completely perfect themselves (translation: not perfect and therefore has problems). But he still has to do it, because that is his obligation in his particular vocation.
      I guess the more relevant distinction would be, what type of judgement are we talking about? While only God can judge an individual's state of soul, everyone has to make certain judgements about scenarios and the rightness and wrongness of concrete actions. Liturgical abuses do in fact exist, leading logically to the conclusion that a priest is at fault. In many cases, I would argue that the laity are responsible for confronting such a priest in a charitable manner. I guess the trick is discerning what a given scenario is. In a case where an actual liturgical abuse has not occurred, what Fr. Ripperger said would apply.
      Thoughts anyone?
