Once on Mount Athos there was a monk who lived in Karyes. He drank and got drunk every day and was the cause of scandal to the pilgrims. Eventually he died and this relieved some of the faithful who went on to tell Elder Paisios that they were delighted that this huge problem was finally solved.
Father Paisios answered them that he knew about the death of the monk, after seeing the entire battalion of angels who came to collect his soul. The pilgrims were amazed and some protested and tried to explain to the Elder of whom they were talking about, thinking that the Elder did not understand.
Elder Paisios explained to them: "This particular monk was born in Asia Minor, shortly before the destruction by the Turks when they gathered all the boys. So as not to take him from their parents, they would take him with them to the reaping, and so he wouldn't cry, they just put raki into his milk in order for him to sleep. Therefore he grew up as an alcoholic. There he found an elder and said to him that he was an alcoholic. The elder told him to do prostrations and prayers every night and beg the Panagia to help him to reduce by one the glasses he drank.
After a year he managed with struggle and repentance to make the 20 glasses he drank into 19 glasses. The struggle continued over the years and he reached 2-3 glasses, with which he would still get drunk."
The world for years saw an alcoholic monk who scandalized the pilgrims, but God saw a fighter who fought a long struggle to reduce his passion.
Without knowing what each one is trying to do what he wants to do, what right do we have to judge his effort?

Jillian D I appreciate your father’s service. But did you listen to the Fathers critique on bravery at 17:00.? If your dad was in combat It would be interesting to see what your dad thinks of the fathers comments. Everything I’ve learned about those facing such violence is that they are very very scared. He says those people arent brave. He’s wrong and it’s not a good indicator of his character.

Peace be with you Wil RockQ. Fr. Rippeger wasn’t critiquing bravery, but rather making a clarification that the virtue of of choosing the good, regardless of potential harm. It’s more than bravery, an evil person can be brave, but only through intentional mortification, can one develop the virtue to choose the good in the face of an eminent threat. We must take on the cross, we must choose to suffer, because through mortification, we develop the virtue to serve God with joy, regardless of suffering. In the military, we call it, “embarrassing the suck.” Once you embrace the suck, you move beyond the suffering and are able to focus on completing the necessary task. God be with you.

    • @christopherhennigan9834
      @christopherhennigan9834 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Patrick Montgomery, I’m not sure where you got “self harming” out of what I said, because I did not even remotely mention it. What I was trying to say, is that we must embrace the suffering that the Lord allows to experience. I do not agree, support, or condone self harming in any way.

+Cassie Miller It can also mean that as we continue to grow stronger in virtues...
If a thought enters our mind that would offend God we can choose not to entertain that thought.
For example if you see a person you maybe attracted to and an impure thought enters your mind, if you choose not to entertain that thought because you don't want to offend God you might immediately say a Hail Mary asking our Lady's help to immediately ignore any impure thought by not entertaining that thought. If you had entertained an impure thought you would greatly offend God and lose your state of grace by commiting a mortal sin.
The more times you did not entertain impure thoughts and prayed a Hail Mary immediately asking her help..
The stronger you would become in the virtue of overcoming impure thoughts and the closer you become to our Lord.
The same would apply to thoughts of anger, jealousy, or any thought that would not please our Lord. If you are always mindful not to entertain any thought thst displeases Our Lord.. you are always thinking of our Lord and not allowing youself to offend him.
As we grow in holiness in our earthly life we should be always be striving to be no longer us but rather to reflect Our Lord.
Becoming Christ like in everyway is our goal. Not limited to just thoughts but also how we speak, Behave, dress, etc.
We no longer live for our will or desires we choose to only do God's will until we are no longer the person we were but rather we become conformed to live and act as Jesus did.. in Scripture..
It is no longer I that live but Christ who lives in me..said St Paul.

People always say: “I am sorry for you.” And look at me with a sympathetic ways... I simply replied: “God loves me.” He must love us to give us more responsibilities.

So do I. We have not heard from him for quite sometimes. We need to hear also about the other Exorcist Priests that are obedient and very devoted to God during these times of chaos and calamity. Father Altman has been given some great homilies. Despite the fact we feel isolated and abandoned we do our best to pray daily.

From the Q & A part at the end, Father gave a GREAT description of faculties of priests, very succinct.
There is a difference between the POWER and the RIGHT.
A priest may have the power to do priestly things, but he never has the right without delegation from his bishop [a.k.a. faculties].

And what a SHAME that most of them are silent on THE FOUR IMPORTANT LAST THINGS, AND THEY persecute and cancel GOOD priests and let the evil ones prosper. James Martin, etc., and the Lavender Hierarchy, and do not correct the pope. Shameful, without virtue. How sad 😢

Suffering can powerfully purify and lead us to God. But its not easy to embrace and carry our cross. Trying to escape crucification not knowing there will be a glorious resurrection after crucification.

Amazing talk! Even more amazing that this seems to be exactly what I need right now. I'm a very new Christian, still in the OCIA classes, and I'm dealing with very a difficult homelife that seems tailor-made to cause me suffering and lead me to sin. Also, that kid singing or whatever cracked me up.

We can make a spiritual bouquet to Our Blessed Mother for these faithful priests daily. Maybe even one decade of the Rosary or offering a little act of kindness or sacrifice for the faithful clergy and our Church. Remember our Blessed Lord loves us so much in these offerings. The reason why I was terrified of children in a Preschool age is there were so many of them. I wouldn’t be able to manage a load of 20 children by myself. A mother knows her limits or else has a husband who can tell when she is stressed out by taking care of babies all day. I’ve thought three or four children would be manageable for anyone. 8-10 children is strictly by the grace of God that he wants you to have so many in your life.

Pray the Rosary DAILY for their repentance and conversion. You have to participate, actively. Every approved apparition of the Holy Virgin has Her asking for this powerful prayer. If you allow your daughter to disrespect you to your face, then you are complicit. As long as you are praying and avoiding sin in your own life, then you can be at peace. Do your part and leave the rest to God and the intercession of His Holy Mother.

Not that I know better than Fr Ripperger but a point of clarification - for those of you who have abusive relationships, God doesn't want that. Don't seek out people who abuse you. While I am not saying go take out revenge on them, you need to have a proper measure of self-love because if you don't love yourself you cannot love your neighbor AS YOURSELF. There are times when we may have to bear with something for a time but don't think abuse is love.
