- Peter Louis Vincent de Freitas was born in The Port of Spain, Trinidad And Tobago in the Caribbean on the 2nd August 1961, but grew up in Goring On Thames in Oxfordshire.
Peter was one of 9 siblings and was educated by the Benedictines at Downside School in Somerset, South England. His father was famous copyright attorney Dennis de Freitas.
His sisters Rose and Rachel De Freitas were founding members of the band the Heart Throbs.
His brother Frank is the bass player of the Woodentops.
Peter joined Echo and the Bunnymen in 1979. De Freitas’ natural musicianship and affable charm made him an invaluable foil to his notoriously quarrelsome bandmates.
Peter was both an English musician and producer. He performed on the Bunnymen’s first five albums.
In 1985, de Freitas temporarily left the band. He spent several months drinking in New Orleans, while attempting to form a new group, the Sex Gods.
But drug escapades, insecurity, and manic delusions were to take their toll on Peter, when their Manager Bill Drummond said of Peter he was once “the sanest and most balanced of the Bunnymen.”
His Brother also said about him “Pete was basically having a breakdown"
By 1987, he returned to the Bunnymen to record their fifth album, though only as a part-time member.
Shortly after returning to the Bunnymen in 1987, De Freitas married, and his daughter Lucie Marie was born the following year.
He was riding a 900cc Ducati motorcycle on the A51 road in Longdon Green, Staffordshire and was in collision with a motor vehicle at approximately 16:00.
Peter’s Ashes are interred at Whitehill burial ground in Oxfordshire

Thank you very much for sharing this documentation, I vividly remember the date back in June 1989 when his death was reported, is being driven in a car with others and remember being deeply depressed everyone else I was with really didn't know who he was

Superb band 'Heaven Up Here' Subliminal. .I love 'All My Colours' and 'Turquoise Days' heartbreakingly sad about Peter I rode huge motorcycles for years and lost a dear friend at 22 in a motorcycle accident in 1992 ..You got to see them...they are a superb band. I consider EATB one of the 6 greatest bands ever (with The Beatles,The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley,David Bowie). The 4 greatestCDs ever, IMHO, are: Joahn Lennon’s songs of 1980, Elvis Presley’s songs of 1970, HUH & Ocean Rain by EATB. The 5th CD could be the debut album of The Velvet Underground (with Nico), the debut album by The Doors or Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie (1972, Low of 1977 is famtastic as well)… I am sorry to read about your friend losing their life at the age of 22… 🥲 Just now, I ‘Liked’ and subscribed… Would a similar video about Ian Curyis of JD be possible…? 🤔 All the best to you, Johno!,

@@johnosgraveyardjaunts2235 I use to reside a few house's up from Pete Dr Frietas parents home! It was called "Heiroun" I think? Back in the 80s! I remember delivering the midweek papers there at 13 years old in 1987!

I know. So sad Peter died before them at just 27 years old. What an incredibly sad loss of an amazing talent
The bike was not to claim his life it was the silly old duffer in the Citeron that claimed his life.
I didn't realise it was another person's fault...A great loss to Music....heartbreakingly sad 😢
