John that is some really-really incredible clean tone. BTW, your backing track stereo sounds awsome. I don't know if you changed anything, but great stereo imaging. Its amazing that you can dial in Dan's settings from a video shot. He's the legend.

Happy New Year to you and yours, JNC! You've dialed up a really convincing sound. It really has the characteristic Matchless attack and top end.

A couple of observations, the tape markers are on the EF86 channel of the amp along with the plug sitting next to the input jack of the EF86 channel. The EF86 channel operates very differently to the 12AX7 channel.
I’m looking at his tape markers. The channel volume tape marker appears to be 1 o’clock, the Tone marker is on position 2 (it’s a selector switch), the Cut control tape marker is at 10.30ish and Master Volume marked at about 2 o’clock. I have my own SC30 clone that I built myself, so I have 1st hand experience with these settings on the EF86 channel. The marked settings with my Fender Tele sound amazing, bloody loud, but amazing.

WooHoo! A Revv D40 shoutout! I love mine. It's so good and versatile. Covers a huge sonic range. Props to Revv - Made in Canada!

When one goes from the bedroom to the practice to the small gig to the medium gig then to the large gig, Then to different damping qualities on the stage like carpet, wood stage floor or concrete. or playing across the room or length wise pedal and amp response changes. This why I watch you, you are learning and experimenting as things get bigger in your career. But you have been raised in a digital world so this equipment doesn't put you off- I am getting to see what works in a non- Bukavacian world. I do have a question for you about what happens to the sound of the band when going direct. Does that overcome most of the rooms acoustical differences when mixed by a good sound man making all of the things I mentioned about acoustic properties of the room lees problematical, or almost no problem at all. Except for maybe the lack of woofer presence on stage for the guitarist. You are becoming a real expert in these matters.

I love Dann Huff from his days with the band Giant. That band should have been far more successful & popular in my opinion.

They were too good and too late to the show. I can’t imagine how those guys felt making such a great record and the scene was over.

I'm extremely happy with my current modeler/frfr rig, but if someone put a gun to my head to buy an expensive amplifier, I think I'd get a matchless. Before anyone hammers me in the comments, I also have/have had many vintage and boutique amps...

Has anyone tried “tube” preamp plugin to see if it gives digital modelling a warmer feel. I haven’t but I’ve always wondered if it would make it any better.

Can I quote uncle Larry? I understand why you all use modellers. However don’t tell me they sound the same as an amp. Cause they don’t.

I am sorry but having owned many Matchless amps from ‘92 on and a Quad Cortex there is nothing remotely close to the amp in the cortex. Capture or otherwise. Matchless is a different animal. I wish their were.
