An interesting selection of Japanese chain restaurants. Mos Burger has a delicious coffee milk shake. A few years ago I got a Mos Burger meal kit on a JAL flight (requiring the addition of sauce). It is very different from American hamburgers. Regarding breakfasts, I discovered that Hoshino Coffee has breakfast specials for the price of a cup of coffee. The shops are very comfortable to lounge in and enjoy the soft background jazz music. A great way to wake up. Your dining insights are appreciated.
Thank you for watching. Yes, Mos is very different. Sometimes I feel like Mos, sometimes I like Burger King more. I didn't know about Hoshino coffee breakfast. I'd like to try it. :)
Hello, I am from New York City and am planning to come visit Japan for the first time some time soon. Thank you for your informative videos. It is good to see the prices and all the different items.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that the video was informative. That's great that you visit Japan for the first time! I hope you have a great trip. You might feel everything is very reasonable in Tokyo if you come from NYC. :)
Mos Burger and Coco Curry are two of our favorite places to go for a quick and delicious cheap meal. I love the spice level at Coco and the corn potage soup at Mos is fantastic!! These are great places to hit the first night when arriving to have a quick meal and acclimate to the area.
Thanks for this video, and all others! 20 years after studying in Japan I will visit this beautiful country in fours weeks with my family. And since it is, not easy to find a good place to eat for four kids and two adults, your tips are most welcome!
That's great you are visiting here soon with your family! I think chain restaurants are good place to eat for a big group, especially a booth restaurant like KURA. I wish you the best trip in Japan. :) Thank you for watching.
Stumbled on this video and loved it, and immediately subscribed to your channel. I will definitely watch the rest of your videos after this. Videos like these from a Japanese, who speaks very good english, would be helpful for us foreigners/gaikokujins. You should make a part 2 of restaurants to eat in Tokyo and add Matsunoya, Yoshinoya, Saizeriya, Gusto, Matsuya, Pepper Lunch, Ichiran, Gyoza no Ohsho, Coco Curry, Ringer Hut, and Freshness Burger to name a few.
My first love - Ichiran Ramen, as a tourist! I never miss going there every time for the delicious meal, and the awesome atmosphere of eating in stalls! Yummy!
Very informative video, Thank you . Looks like, you can make a part 2 for more chain restaurants as some of them mentioned more ....lol😂 Look forward to your part 2 recommendation video
Usually, it's ok if fried. But this kind of grilled fish, it's better to remove born on the plate, and bite well so you can find some left borns. Shimahokke, or Salmon is easier to eat in my opinion. 👍
I just subscribed - I am enjoying your videos. They're really nicely put together & full of good tips for travellers. So thank you for your efforts. A question please - Foreigners like me often rely on eye sight to spot a place to eat. Usually this means we look for something on the ground floor where we can see that it's obviously a place to eat. But I wonder about all those lovely places upstairs that us gaigin simply don't know about. Of course we can see the signs BUT... we don't speak the language or understand the Kanji characters. I must have missed out on many wonderful dining experiences in my 40 years of visiting Japan. Is there an App or something to help foreigners navigate and find suitable eating places? Maybe you have another idea? Thank you for your good work. Honto Desu!
Thank you so much for subscribing and your kind message. Oh wow 40 years! Maybe you know more than me. :) I think that is difficult even for local residents to find out what's in those building but as you said, there should be lots of gems (and not so gems). Usually people see Google review, magazines, restaurant search website like "Gurunavi" "Tabelog". You might know already but Gurunavi has English site ( gurunavi.com ) . I always go some places to introduce in this channel but haven't found anything "amazing" that I'd like to introduce which I end up not showing in my videos. But I'll keep looking around. Thank you again!
@@tokyokenchan Thanks for the reply, very much appreciated. From memory 40 years ago there was very little information. Mostly we relied on staff at the hotel front desk to recommend something suitable. But I will check into Gurunavi & Tablelog. Sometimes it just takes one clue to open up a whole lot of new opportunities. Is your information limited to Tokyo? As amazing as Tokyo is, my Japanese friends are way down South in the middle of Kyushu (Hitoyoshi), and it is really difficult finding some place nice to take them out & surprise them. Maybe Gurunavi ('Guru' and 'Navi' - clever) & Tablelog can help guide me. Keep up the good work. You're doing a great job.
Thanks for the video. Tomorrow is our last day in Japan after 2 weeks. We are in Ginza area. We ate at Wako and liked it. Do you have any recommendation for dinner in the Ginza area, shabu shabu or sushi? Thanks!
Nice list! I’ve only tried Kura Zushi and Mos Burger out of this list but I’d love to try out the other chains next time I visit Japan. One of my personal favorite chains in Tokyo is Torikizoku where they sell yakitori and drinks at a cheap price.
If you want an American style breakfast, than the easiest and cheapest option is McDonalds which has pancakes, eggs and egg muffin sandwiches until 10:30 AM. Breakfast at a big hotel will be fancier and better quality, but much more expensive. If you want to try a grilled fish and rice Japanese breakfast, than Yoshinoya or Matsuya can help you. I also recommend trying Japanese curry at a place like CoCo Ichibanya. One warning--Dennys in Japan is fully Japanized and does not have the menu that you would expect. They do not serve American breakfasts, and at lunch and dinner, much of the menu is Japanese "hamburga" which are like Salsbury steak or meatloaf.
Your recommendations are great. My favorite is Tonkatsu Wako... Followed by Yayoiken next....I wld say Saizeriya is also very good in terms of value, quantity n quality. Am here enjoying these and more.
Oh wow. That sounds fun you are going around many chains in Tokyo! I'm glad you found Wako and Yayoiken. Thank you for letting me know! I agree, Saizeriya is also a good family restaurant to go. :)
hi Ken Chan, I am surprised you did not put yoshinoya, otoya or matsuya. i love matsuya, and my first meals after landing and last meals before boarding at kansai was matsuya. will eat these restaurants that you recommend. thank you.
@@tokyokenchan I was also waiting for Yoshinoya, as a picture of them appeared at the beginning of the video. I like their Sukiyaki over rice bowl and I think its great value for money. The Katsu and Sushi places looks amazing, I will check those out when I travel to Japan soon again. Thanks for the great video.
Go to the AEON supermarket locations for great foods in early morning and near evening for 15-20% sushi discounts. The stores' sushi are 1000% better than typical restaurant sushi in the USA!!!
Hello. Yes, I believe soba soup contains mirin for both warm and cold soba unless noted alcohol free. I recommend you to check with the store person just to make sure.
Thanks for this helpful video. You said breakfast places aren't common, but are there any you could recommend (including for Japanese style breakfast) in case the hotel doesn't provide it, or if it does but it's not what you expected?
Yes, there lots of beefbowl shops such as Yoshinoya, Matsuya offers Japanese style breakfast. Also, coffee shops such as Dotour, Komeda Coffee, offers sandwich. I also recommend Denny's and Jonathan as they have both western and Japanese breakfast. I'm giong to work on that video but I've done filming only Komeda and Denny's so far. ^^;
A general question, is it common or accepted to bring the unfinished food home ? Waiter will kindly provide a box to pack the food? Also for the chain restaurants, common to go in and order take out? Thanks
It’s not common to bring unfinished foods home in Japan. I think many of them don’t have a box for that. The potion is not that big here, so I haven’t asked in Japan even though I have asked in the US time to time. Yes, you can ask for take out at these chains. :)
Hello. I’m actually working on the video and trying different place little by little. Where I went and enjoyed are "Down to Plant" in Roppongi (salad), "Vegan Bistro Jangara" in Harajuku (ramen), "Izakayam Masaka" in Shibuya (Karaage and Gyoza), "Citron Aoyama" (Vegan salad, quiche), "Nataraj Harajuku" (Indian) I’ll make a video in April after I try some more. Hope she enjoys some of these. :)
I would not touch a Mos burger with a ten foot pole. We are really spoiled here in California with In-N-Out Burger. I would take any fish breakfast with rice and miso soup any day.
NO NO NO...come on Kenchan, the MOS Rice Burger with Kinpira is great. Dont just have bread roll when you go here!!!! 😠 🤣 But i think they no longer doing it, as they only have Kaisen Kakiage or Yakiniku Rice Burger ..grrrrrrr
Haha... no no. I expect bread hamburgers when I go to MOS. Or maybe we can just order both. You can buy Nori Bento box that comes with Kinpira at Origin Bento. ^^
