Ethiopia begins filling reservoirs of Nile mega-dam

- Ethiopia has begun filling the reservoirs of a controversial mega-dam on the Blue Nile, according to the country's water minister.
Egypt and Sudan had requested the Grand Renaissance Dam not be filled until an agreement is reached.
The dam has caused nearly a decade of contentious negotiations over concerns it could drastically reduce water supply to downstream countries.
Ethiopia has said the dam is crucial for its growth and it would begin filling it during this month's rainy season.
Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford lays out the politics behind the dam and Alex Gatopoulos has more on where the concerns lie for Egypt and Sudan.

Egypt’s position sounds like somebody tells his neighbor to not use his oil in his neighbor plot of land because he believe the oil will flow to his plot underground.

I used to think that it was due to foreign countries, but it became clear to me from the comments that Africans do not think and that they are ignorant of this fact and not racism. How do you compare oil to water? You can build any dams on it without referring to anyone, and oil is in your land as well, and if oil is on the borders between the two countries, it is divided through joint agreements and cross-border rivers, no country can block water from another country. Exactly, Britain made a monumental error by omitting Ethiopia from that agreement on how to share the water of the Nile. Ethiopia is the source of the Nile, which gives them a natural right to the river. Moreover, Egypt and Sudan have been benefiting from the Nile unevenly, with Egypt built Aswan dam on the river using 93% of its water and Sudan 86%. It is rather fair for Ethiopia to benefit from the river in a way and manner that improve their socio-economy...
