My country Kenya 🇰🇪, is one of the leading suppliers of water into Lake Victoria, and thus the Nile, yet we have little or no say on how water is used. However, the filling of the dam should be done reasonably to allow Sudan and Egypt to plan well for a reduced volume during the refill. The colonial-era treaty did not grant Egypt any water rights; it merely insisted that Ethiopia refrain from building a dam that could retain water. Since Ethiopia has not constructed a dam, we have not violated the spirit of this one-sided agreement. Our Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is not merely a dam; it is a hydroelectric project that contributes to regional development. This is crucial information for Egypt’s water experts.
Moreover, Egypt and Sudan have established their own treaty claiming 100% of the water, even though neither contributes a single drop. It is only fair to demand a share of the water that originates from Ethiopian sources. Yet, Egypt insists that we accept a deal that provides us with a 0% water share. This situation is untenable and unjust. We deserve equitable access to our shared resources.
Get it GRED is not a Dam!

The absurd thing is Egypt wants Ethiopia to sign a binding agreement that will ensure Egypt gains the same amount of water it has gained since the 1959 colonial agreement was signed between Egypt and Sudan. This means if drought was to happen, Ethiopia will be obliged to give the water that's accumulated in the GERD's reservoir to Egypt so that the amount of water Egypt used to get continues. Indirectly, this means Egypt is forcing Ethiopia to make the dam an insurance for Egyptian security in expense of Ethiopian national interest. Egypt can not coerce Ethiopia into doing that. Hence, it's supporting Eritrea and Somalia to create a proxy war.

I appreciate the effort to discuss the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam, but there are some inaccuracies in the portrayal of its benefits. Numerous scientists and water resource experts recognize its potential positive impact on the region. It's also worth noting that Ethiopia fully financed this project without external funding, which is a significant achievement often overlooked. Although this is an opinion platform, it’s important to share accurate information for those seeking to understand the full story.

Ethiopia is the source of the Nile River more than 86 %contrbut to the river, but Egypt has 0% contribution. Ethiopia has a right to build an electric dam for its citizens millions of people do have not electricity, and Egypt doesn't want to see any infrastructure on their land and rivers. This is unacceptable

Interesting engineering not correct for saying 4 billion cubic water loss due to evaporation bcs of the dam, Ethiopia actually more green and a source of many rivers that's why Ethiopia called the water tower of Africa for that reason Egypt's dams losses more water than Ethiopia's GERD dam. GERD can hold more water and reduce evaporation bcs it holds the most water that could be lost in the Sahara desert inside Egypt.

the concept of evaporation presented here is misleading. wherever the water is stored there always be evaporation! but the truth is evaporation is much less in Ethiopia compare to Sudan or Egypt, where there is higher temperature.

If the USA were in Egypt's position, America would have confidently built the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and fully funded it. Unfortunately, that’s not our reality.
The Yarmouk River is a tributary to the Jordan River and, therefore, forms part of the Jordan System, which comprises Israel, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. The Yarmouk has its source in Syria, flows to Jordan and Israel and joins the Jordan River downstream to the Sea of Galilee.

In what way reduces the dam the amount of water that flows through Egypt and Sudan after it is filled? Ethiopia has been careful while filling the reservoir. And how has the dam anything to do with the history of Egypt. As Ethiopia was not a member of the British agreement with Egypt and Sudan about the Nile's water, it does not apply. Egypt refused an agreement with Ethiopia about the Nile's water, so what do they complain about. One can talk about dam failures, but was that done about the dams in Egypt and Sudan. How many water evaporates at the Aswan Dam? It has 2.8 times the surface area of the Ethiopian dam.
I my opinion the point is not about the Nile or the dam, but about who is the regional powerhouse.
