  • For thousands of years, the Nile has been the backbone of civilisations and a source of conflict.
The latest dispute is over the the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam project in Africa.
Ethiopia's government says its $4 billion project on the Blue Nile will provide power to its more than 100 million citizens and create huge opportunities for its economy.
It wants to start filling the dam's reservoir in July when its rainy season begins.
But Sudan and Egypt downstream first want a legally-binding agreement on how long it will take to fill the dam, and the way it will be operated.
    The African Union is mediating.
Ethiopia's government says the parties could finalise an agreement within two to three weeks.
Can they find a way to bridge their differences?
    Presenter: Imran Khan
    Guests:
Gedion Asfaw - Head of the Technical Committee of the Ethiopian Negotiating Delegation.
Osman El-Tom - Former Sudanese Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.

Hey Egyptian!! Don't bring Somalia in the discussion. We support Ethiopia 200%. Abiy's leadership has brought the horn of Africa together. The balance of power in Africa has shifted from the north to the Horn.

Very smart bro! Thank you! Egypt doesn't want the rest of Africa, especially the East Africa to prosper. And, they know this dam will lit the entire East Africa at least. The electricity will power Manufacturing, Transportation, Homes, even Tourism and Agriculture. They don't want us to compete with them. The funny thing is they also know that hydroelectricity does not consume water. All Ethiopia asking Egypt is, to understand that the water can be saved from waste. Loss to evaporation in the desert, loss as overflowing Agricultural villages, loss when it finally flows in-to the Mediterranean sea. Sadly, this is well appreciated by the Egyptians as they continue to build lakes in the middle of the Sahara desert in Africa and in the Sainay desert in Asia as well as a Brand new capital city from this one river. Nile!. .. Now you know the reason! Greed and unfairness in its epic!

Egyptians should get serious . How do you want Ethiopia, where the blue nile originates not to utilise the river and then quote a 1902 treaty to boot?
    Such arrogance.
Ethiopia has EVERY right to use the blue Nile.
Current river rights are a gross miscarriage of justice.

We Ethiopians are too much disappointed that Egyptians act is poisonous and painful for us becouse instead of thanking us they are trying to influence us by running to USA and middle East Arab countries .

Here is the irony, this river must be one and only river in the world whereby a downstream non contributor(Egypt) tries to dictate the terms of use...negotiating is one thing but clinging on to a colonial era treaty which didn't involve Ethiopia and did not allocate a single drop of water to the "non Arab" African nations who are sole providers of the entire water is something of political....looking at the Egyptian guest's attitude alone says everything.."we don't trust Ethiopia" he says. meaning his issue isn't really a genuine concern over water shortage but rather a political one, a fear of a black nation taking its well deserved place on a river it contributes over 85% of the entire flow...Egypt's dilemma is that it is a country physically trapped in a continent they so much resent and wish not to be part of, but believe they can maintain the status co by bullying because as the fool said "they are the 9th in the world militarily "..bigotry at its Max..!
The bigot says, "it is not your water, it is an international water" yes may be, but there is no international law that says do not touch rain water that rains on your land, just let it flow to Egypt and stay in the dark ...It is even funny this argument about "international water" comes from a country that makes a living out of tempering with nature and connecting two international oceans(sea) and collecting money from every passing ship...the man is typical !.
