    Growing more pineapples - Separating pups/suckers from mother plant. In this video I show how to separate pineapple pups (aka suckers) from the mother plant in order to multiply the pineapple plants and maximize the harvests. Enjoy!

    Very well done video! We have a number of mature plants, and I never realized that I could remove the pups. Thank you

    Thank you for the video and sharing information. Watching a video with "How To" practices, for me I assimilate information better through this medium than reading articles or a book, so again thank you and it's been great watching.... Peace :)

      Thank you! Yes, 3 nights in a row of frost in the Ocala area. And now you can go multiply your pineapple plants for free 😊. Thank you for watching!

    Hey
    Update on the pineapple pups I picked. They really weren't growing a whole lot. One of them ended up dying. Three more started turning brown on some leaves (they might've gotten too much sun?) but two of them are still going strong, despite the soil forming mold for a bit and I had to completely replace it (which might've also had to do with the poor quality of the other four) but they still haven't grown much since I potted them.
    I had another question though:
    I picked two more pups from another pineapple plant my family was growing. They're more the size of the ones you're showing here, but I accidentally tore off a bit of the base. Some of the bottom leaves came off. Is that bad?

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Thanks for the update. Sorry about the ones that died. Browning of the leaves could've meant too much sun, not enough water, and/or they were probably too young or small. I'm glad to hear a couple are still going strong, though! The leaves that tore off at the bottom of the new ones shouldn't affect their growth, but I'd just keep an eye out.

    Thank you for this. I got my pineapple head from the store and it immediately grew pups and i had no idea what i was doing. I just learned im over watering so when i separate my pups ima toss around my soil. Unfortunately i dont have ANOTHER 3gall pot. Its more of a half gallon

    Thanks for another great video. I love growing pineapple in central florida and planted my pups as you showed how to and now about 150 plants around the yard . My problem is beating the racoons and squirrals to them when they ripen . Thanks again for all your informative videos!!!

    Hi there!
    I recently did this with a whole bunch of pups growing on one of my pineapple plants. But they're a lot smaller than the ones in the video, even though each one is still bigger than my thumb.
    I've not found anything about whether I should pick them at a certain size or not. Did I pick them too soon, or will they still grow if potted?

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! The smaller they are, the higher the chances they won't survive.. But I've picked some smaller than the ones in this video and they did well. You'll probably just need to check on them a lot at first, and protect them from full sun. Maybe give them morning sun, and then shade in the afternoons. Thank you for watching, and best of luck with your pups!

      @@freedomgrows my apartment balcony is at an angle where it doesn't get sunlight until the afternoon
      Do you think the reverse would be bad for the pups, or should I just grow them indoors?

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@periodicpete they should be fine, especially on a balcony where you can closely monitor and adjust as needed. Leaving them outdoors would be better for them than indoors :)

    Hey I have these nodule looking things on the stem right below the baby pineapple on my plant. I can’t seem to find out anything about these. If you can shed some light on what these are I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! It sounds like pups are starting to emerge from the stem, but it's hard to say without seeing it. I'm betting they are pups or suckers though.

    Do you know if the same steps can be applied to a red spineless pineapple plant? I have one that has 2 pups and it is healthy so I want to remove the smaller pups to make them their own plants. Just don’t know if since it’s a pineapple plant it’s the same or if it’s somehow different

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! I believe you can. To be on the safer side, I'd wait until the pups are a decent size before removing and replanting (about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mother plant). You can also remove just one of them to test it out first :)

  • @larryhenry719

    How many pineapple can you get off one plant.I heard they only produce one pineapple.

    • @freedomgrows
      @freedomgrows  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, just 1 pineapple per plant, but the plants eventually produce suckers (or pups) at the base and if left on, they'll mature and develop their own fruit as well. It would basically be two or more plants sharing the same root system.
