One of the things that i have heard a lot from drummers learning Neil's work is "damn this is tough but so much fun" it shows me that Neil really loved his instrument and found challenge's delightful and fulfilling thus every piece was a masterpiece. I think Neil would just be grinning ear to ear knowing she had this much fun with this song.

That song had a certain feel that someone with a musical brain like her can pick up on. Some parts just felt necessary like the 6/4 feel kind of demanded a certain bass/snare pattern and she felt it right away.

I grew up in Ireland and never heard a single Rush song, even though I was always into music and even played bass in a band for a while.
Then about 5 years ago I happened upon a video of a girl playing a bass cover to a strange song called YYZ.
That was my introduction to the Rush rabbit hole, and I haven't left the burrow since.

Rush came about in a time when bands released a new album nearly every year and toured behind it from anywhere between 3-4 months to 6 months or a year. If Rush is introduced to a younger audience it’s going to be through their parents, siblings, friends but most likely here TH-cam or other relevant social media platforms.🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎤🎹

gotta give just a little love to the Ged - he lays down some pretty good rhythm on the bass/vocals - that's gotta help a little (learning bass myself - so I'm biased - these vids keep me inspired to keep practicing at a 'late' age -mid 40s). But what an amazing drummer! I'm definitely going to be adding Mars Volta to my playlist!

I was a rock and metal head since I was 10 and I heard Rush for the first time when I was like 22 or something. I don't understand why people are so obsessed with their sacred cows. And especially since Neil was a low-key humble man who wouldn't give a fuck about being not known by somebody. And on top of that, she did a phenomenal job. I entirely agree: seeing how many people STILL - in 2024, FFS! - think that their subjective knowledge and taste are shared by all is appalling. Many of us fled Rush because we couldn't stand the singer's voice (and we never cared to know what his name is). So, no, we didn't know Limelight either, but were happy to discover its amazing drums and the super job done by Philo - so much so that we agreed to endure that terrible voice.
