I just got this unit about a week ago , put the boat in the water turned on the unit, it booted up. I spent the next half hour trying navigate pages and just getting pissed off ,turned it off fished the rest of the day , came home and found your video spent some time watching it and found it very informative , thanks for posting

The green looks kewl but i think you can tell what type of bottom composition you're working with a little better in the original..mud,sand,rock etc.👍That thing is sooo awesome

I just got my first boat and it came with this unit. at 9:20 in the video you talk about running a deep diving crank bait up a little hill. Where in relation to boat position would I cast to accomplish that? Front or back or side of the boat? Like I said I'm new to this and it might sound dumb but I would appreciate any help. thx brother
Sorry for the late response. Your transducer beams straight down from your transom so when you see fish on the graph they will be right under the boat to behind the boat. Go a little further with the boat and throw you marker out in front of the boat then turn boat around and then come back around to your marker in your original direction but stay a cast length away from your marker. Cast to it and work your baits over the spot. That way you dont get tangled up in your marker buoy. Hope this helps! 😉👍
Here in Australia we just mark the way point if windy or heavy current, turn back around and troll lures at desired depths back over the mark and wait and see. I just follow contours of my local lake and mark spots of interest and places I've hooked up.
Nice unit. How did you get the HDI splitshot?...did it come automatically with the unit? What is the low frequency sonar (50? 77?..etc)? Did the cmap come preloaded?
You can create different splitshot screens on this unit. I don't believe its available on the model if it has an "X" in the name. Yes the maps were pre-loaded but can upgrade via SD Card slot. I'm not sure what the low frequency sonar is off the top of my head but I will find out For you.
Sorry for such a late response. I assume you probably already got one by now but any 12v battery will work (e.g. car or marine battery) but mine is a smaller 12v battery thats about 6"-8" wide and about 3" tall that I got from Lowe's home improvement and last me all day on the water. I don't have the specs on the exact battery but I'll post it soon 👍

hi can the screen sustain heavy rain ? or the wire ? coz i plan to install the mount & wiring of tranducer and let it on open sun on the boat. ill just take away the screen & battery when i let my boat dock.
My Hook2 7x doesn’t have a page menu like yours does. When I push the button with the two pages it just rotated between screens (downscan, maps, sonar, and flasher). I never get to select pages and customize pages. Do you know why this is? Thanks
@@bradyoakland9287 I did some research and although yours is a bigger unit then mine is, the models with an "X" in it are more limited on features. That may be why your pages button flips through the pages and why yours doesnt offer the sd card slot. Sorry about that bud.
Yes sir absolutely and you can't beat this one for the $300 price tag. I don't think there's another unit from any other brand out there that does what this one does at that price range but I could be wrong.
Does it matter which direction the transducer faces on the vessel? I'm placing mine in the hull on the inside of my kayak but make sure it pointing in the right direction.
Do you have the same transducer? If so it needs to be as level as possible to bounce down and up properly with the bullet side facing the front and the flat side facing the back. Hope that helps 😎👍
😆 Lol! Sorry i thought I did. But basically once you mount the power head where you want it and the transducer where you want it then theres just two wires to hook up. One from the power head to the transducer, which I just ran under my gunnel, and the other one from the power head to the battery. Hope this helps 😁!
I just used the screws that came with it and drilled into my transom. Sealed it all with RTV gasket maker and havent had any issues but plan on changing the screws out to a bolt, plastic washer, lock washer, and nut, then reseal it all up with the RTV just for good measure. How I installed it is at the end of this video. Although my camera battery died right at the end it still pretty much shows how I did it. 👊😁👍
No I have it up I think about an inch or so I cant remember but definitely not even with the bottom. I have this jon boat in inches of water and wouldnt want any rocks or logs bumping it.

@@filipe6953 Oh ok Yeah thats the pages menu page. You can customize it however you want to. It will come with three options out the box: 1. Charts page 2. Chirp sonar page 3. Down scan page But you can create custom pages for split screens and or triple split screens options. Just make sure the one you buy doesn't have a letter "X" in the name. The HDI 5x looks the same as the HDI 5 but has way fewer options. This unit was $299.00 but I believe the HDI 5x is cheaper. I would pay the extra money for the one without the "X" in the name. Sorry for the late response. The unit with the "X" after the "5" (5X) is the limited version. Not sure if it has an SD card slot to upgrade the maps but it has less features than the the Hook 2 "5". Any time there is an "X" on these units usually means its the budget plug and play version. Hope this helps.
This one was $299.00 at Academy Sports and Outdoors. Yes you can upgrade the maps for whatever area you are in. Yes absolutely! You can even split it three ways. I have one of my screens set up with my maps on the left side, and on the right side I have my chirp sonar on top and my Down imaging on the bottom. I've seen the videos your talking about as well. The instructions are pretty vague and some people just don't want to mess with is cause it''s a pretty much a plug and play and probably afraid they may mess it up, but the menu functions on it are really easy to navigate and operate. 😉👍

@@JohnAmes No not at all. Ive heard some people complaining about it on kayaks in shallow water, come to find out that its mud on the transducer or from stirring up the bottom with their paddles. Plus my jon boat has a thai longtail mud motor on it so the prop is actually 85"s away from the transom so I think that may make a difference.

Yes absolutely. Most people keep it on there boats outside. I take mine off when not in use to prolong its life but yes it will sustain any weather.
Do you leave the transducer facing at a angle like that or does it face straight down
It needs to be as horizontal as possible once your in the water (long ways left to right). Hope this helps

Same here attached it to my trolling motor I plan on attaching it to the boat in the spring are you getting a lot of backwash screwing up the signal
