  • The ability to pick out bass on a fish finder from other species of fish and cover in the water is what separates an average offshore fisherman from a great one. In this video, I explain how to identify bass on 2D sonar, Down Imaging, and Side Imaging. Hope you enjoy!

I won't lie, when I first got mine I only used it for depth and water temperature. Plus it was fun to dink with when the fishing gets slow. I'm learning tons from these videos though.

This has been the best informative video regarding identifying fish. I have watched a lot of videos claiming "how to read a fish finder" and none have explained it so I knew what I'm looking at. Thank you for making this simple to understand.

I installed Garmin Striker units on my boat a few years back. I've been playing with them and trying to learn more the few times I get out each year. I have done okay figuring out how to locate crappie but have struggled locating bass. I just came across your page and have spent two hours watching your videos. I have to echo some of the other comments here that you do a fantastic job of explaining and visually showing what to look for on your graphs. Thank you very much for your videos. I'm excited to get out and try some new settings. I'm definitely a subscriber now!

Thanks a million for your awesome video. I am semi retired and was very nervous and depressed about what I am going to do to keep me occupied during my later years. I do free diving, scuba and kayaking. But this is only a hobby with no purpose behind it. A friend introduced me to kayak fishing, His way we would just anchor somewhere and hope there are fish. Sometimes all day no fish. This was very depressing to me. Something said to me, Google fish finders. After many hours of searching I found your video. NOW I am so happy and excited to go kayak fishing with a Purpose in mind. Find the fish, anchor fish. Or no fish in area on the day, just exercise kayak rowing ,swim, dive . Smile and go the next day. So bottom line you actually saved my life. A million thanks from an older now happy man.

I sincerely appreciate your videos & advice. I'm retired USAF & now work as an ES Counselor. I have a fishing club for my students and teach them about fishing. I try to get some of my competitors to share with these students and they won't do it. That's one thing that is wrong with fisherman...not enough mentoring. So my hats off to you for having the courage to help out the new guy or the guy trying to get better.

First off, thank you for your service. Agreed, but what our dads didn't teach we can learn from channels like this one. Speaking of mentorship, have you ever noticed the instant bond between young and old anglers? It happens effortlessly and I'm not sure why. For me though I remember being the young kid with a pole getting help by a lot of seniors. I adored them for it. Still remember them even though I'm in my 50s now.

You are my go to guy for fishing videos. Glad you are doing well with your business.

If you’ll always run your side scan 2x your dept it will help you learn the size of the dots a little better... If I’m in 20’ of water I’ll side scan 40’ out each side...This will apply most of the time.. If I’m in 4’ naturally I’ll scan more that 8’ out each side.. But if you always kinda stick to this method you’ll start learning the size of what you’re seeing little easier... Very cool informative video for sure.. Keep up the good work

This is a great video. Very informative. I'm assuming that several different species are in the same area, especially around cover like brush. Sometimes, I catch bass, cat or buffalo when fishing for crappie. I'm sure they are intermixed in cover.
