    Great tips on leg movement on low volley, I tried it in my game last night, worked amazing well! Yet still need yo work on my swing volley, fly well beyond baseline for most of the time.

      Great to hear! you probably still need a lot more topspin on the swing volleys. If you hit them too flat they go long (very long :-)

    As always, very useful video. This kind of shots always gives me trouble. After watching these tips I feel confident to improve my play. Thanks Meike

    Special thanks for feet work( step, shuffle etc), particularly in volleying .

    Thank you for making these videos. Such a blessings for me as I can’t afford regular tennis lessons. You are not only good at playing tennis, but also good at explaining.
    One quick question. For the low volleys. I often pop the balls too high and long and end up having the balls land behind their base line. So for me would it be better not to run through towards the net when I hit low volleys. Just worry that I will pop that balls even further out. Or running forward is a must for good low volley?

    Beautiful as always !
    Sorry Meike, did you choose Yonex VCore Pro? 100 or 97 ?
    Thank you

      The 97, I really liked the feel of it and it's still very forgiving at the smaller racket head size.

    Interesting! Wonder if anyone ever put together any match error stats on swing volley versus regular volleys. Particularly with two hand BHs that don't take a hand off while volleying, I have seen more advanced players and even pros put balls out than if they just blocked it back conventionally with good placement. Opinions?

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be interesting to see. It's so few players who willingly come in a lot these days that it's probably hard to even measure this!

    i heard that federer changes grip for the backhand volley, not sure though if i remember correctly

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm gonna venture forth to say that Fed would be great at volleying holding the racket at the head. Maybe he does change the grip, but he's Fed and I would still stick to one grip.

      @@MeikeBabelTennis 😂 yes, it´s true, federer is a special case.

    What do think of many WTA players abandoning the overhead? Coco Gauff could have ended set 1 vs. Mertens with an overhead. She chose a high forehand swing volley. Halep does it as well.

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d have to see that point to comment on it. Coco hits great overheads so maybe it was more court positioning that made her chose that option?

    how does she hit the forehand to the right side without telegraphing it? there are only videos on down-the-line & cross court shots

    • @greenlampshade8909
      @greenlampshade8909 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unlike being an outside observer, the telegraphing isn't as easily recognized when you're the opponent under time pressure. Further, importance of recognizing what shot she intends to hit is diminished by the aggressive nature of shot.
      Search for "inside-out" and "inside-in" groundstroke how-to vids.

      Great explanation! And I will make an inside in and inside out video, great suggestion!

  • @graphguy
    @graphguy ปีที่แล้ว

    This might be true............. BUT not for junior players.
    The number 1 error of junior players is hitting into the net and that originates from swinging.
    This is really more advanced thinking.

    On the subject of volleying - how do we bring someone to the net and force them to volley, if we know they are weak at volleying.

    • @pinsoki7699
      @pinsoki7699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hit it short, they hit it then run back to baseline but it gives you an oppurtunity to catch them on their backfoot

      @@pinsoki7699 No Sorry you are wrong

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with Pinsoki here. Maybe they're not always running back but they will for sure be really uncomfortable at net and that might give you openings for a direct pass or a weak volley if they get the ball.

      @@MeikeBabelTennis Hi, this is me Mr X but on my tennis channel. What I meant was he answered something I did not ask. What I want are ideas on is HOW ( as in technically how - which shot, FH, BH ? How much slice ? DTL or X court etc ? That sort of thing not a generic Uhhhh play it short ... ).
      Kind of what Thiem did to Isner at last year's Madrid Open, he brought him in 4 times and got 4 winners out of it.
      Reason why I asked such specifics is although I was never a professional like you, I did play competitively for my school and for my college, so I have a good understanding of basics.

    • @lowellwalters
      @lowellwalters 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Odd that you don't know that. You mainly want to hit slice so the ball stays lower and shorter. That makes it harder for your opponent to hit the ball and then move back. Dtl v. X Ct doesn't really matter, but you can hit lower and shorter if you go x Ct. All things being equal, it's better to force your opponent to hit a short Backhand, as it's usually the weaker shot and a two-hander won't have as good reach

    During this video you said " knowing my limitations, I'm not going to demonstrate the swing volley". Doesn't that make it clear that nearly every single person seeing this video has no business ( not up to your experience, or athletic ability ) attempting a topspin swing volley. The topspin swing volley is a low percentage trick shot, that hardly ever works.

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Notice that I’m saying 2 handed. Backhand volley. I have a one hander and I find that very hard to execute. My own preference is to hit a regular volley but if you have a two hander it is easier. And it does work. There’s plenty of players who use them very successfully.
