    I taught high school tennis for 20 years and I always taught this technique for my doubles players. It is definitely the most effective way to win at doubles. One up and one back is the worst formation for doubles.

    Serve and volley is the most fun strategy in tennis. It’s my go-to against pushers, weak returners, and in doubles in general.

    In April 1992 on the first warm day of the year (a day with swirling winds) my friend came to the net from the ad side after I hit my first groundstroke. He got to around the service line on the deuce side. I was able to put all my force into the shot that he hit fairly slow and high down the middle of the court. He had a deer in the headlights look and got clocked by a ball going well over 100 mph. It hit him below the belt. Pretty sure if it hit him in the stomach, he would have bust his guts. This ball barely cleared the net by 1 or 2 inches and looked like it could almost go long. It was going to bounce in by maybe 6 inches and dent the back fence. I would say it looked like a Del Potro forehand. Something you couldn't imagine getting hit by. It took my friend about 15 minutes to straighten himself out. The match was over.
    This was not a time a hee and haw, this was a time to get the racquet up do or die. That ball was pretty hard just to visually track. He said that he thought the ball was going to hit the net.

    Very insightful. I thought it was curious that the defending team played both back. Why do that ? Would it have effected the servers targets, particularly his third shot?

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nabeen. Thanks for the question. Returners will play both back if the server’s partner is dominating/the returner is struggling with returning the serve. Both back allows for the returning to to react to the poaching/volleys/overheads of the serving team. It’s a great strategy to use against strong net players. Thanks!!

    Hi Ryan !!
    I just wanna know why don't players hit a lob shot when both of the opponents are at the net...
    Thanks

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Bindu. You can do that. But it results in three outcomes. Two of which are bad.
      1. Opponent hits overhead - Bad
      2. You hit a perfect lob right over them for a winner
      3. Your lob goes lands long past the baseline

      Lobbing is ok here and there. But the best strategy is to keep the ball low to the opponent. When the pop it up attack it. 👍

    Hey Ryan, these are really good tips that will help my game, BUT you're incorrect about when you split step, you were also incorrect about when in a previous split step video which I corrected with video and time stamps on your own vids proving my point
    In the video you just showed the doubles vid, ya, it's three steps, but the server is timing his split to land as or a little before/after opponent strikes, time stamp 5;20
    You split BEFORE your opponent hits the ball to land AS they hit or a smidge before or after so your muscles are loaded when you see where the ball's going
    Previously you claimed pros split after the ball is struck, and claimed they change direction mid air, (they don't unless they've mistimed when the opponent was going to strike0
    You did show video in support, but you hadn't shown the split, you showed them propelling to the direction of the ball AFTER their split, since they had a read where the ball was going
    One coaching channel started a fad lately on youtube showing a player in the air claiming that's his split, if the ball is on it's way to you, then either the pro already split and you're seeing his move to the ball, or his opponent fooled him into splitting too soon, *which is a pro tactic by the way*
    Otherwise I love your channel, this is another good vid except for that bit of mis-information

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My definition of the split step is the landing of both feet on the ground. Is that your definition of split step?

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess we have different definitions of the split step.

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this example, I explain 3 steps and then the split step. Do you consider the 3rd step the actual split step? That’s fine if you do but I have a different definition.

    • @perriscalderon8155
      @perriscalderon8155 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2MinuteTennis Just like everyone's, my definition is when the player leaves the ground with both feet, preparing for the opponent's ball, it doesn't matter if they're parallel, or even distance between each foot.
      In any event, nobody changes direction mid air unless they were fooled for when the strike happens, (which pros try getting foe to mistime split btw).
