    I bought one of these used, but probably less than one box of ammo through it. When it arrived at the FFL, the guy who opened the box said that if this had been around when James Bond got going, this would have been his gun. I agree. I'm keeping this forever.

      Oh wow! You are a very lucky fellow and you are in for a real treat. I think you'll find your P232SL will be very comfortable and accurate to shoot. You must have been well thought of by whoever left it to you. The P232 is indeed a real "legacy" firearm and should be enjoyed and appreciated. They are great guns. You should look at the FN 140/ Browning BDA 380. Also excellent. And the the Beretta 84 .

    One thing it has going for it is the number of moving parts….
    Field stripped it has only 3 or 4 parts. As long as you know how to get the slide off cleaning is a breeze….
    Who knows, maybe they’ll bring the design back in the future.

    Excellent Review thoroughly enjoyed it! Just purchased a p232
    Blued alloy frame version in the blue case dated to 2004 , unfired
    Still has the red grease on the frame rails for $419 ! I was in shock ! The lgs had 4 of them , they purchased a large collection from a widow and priced them very reasonable imo . All 4 sold today ! They displayed them Friday
    The gentleman that passed away would purchase 3-4 of each model for many years and that’s how they got so many. They gave 225, 226, 228, 229 , .22target and the list goes on! The dealer/ gun range is Big Woods Goods in Canton, GA
    in case anyone is interested!
    Btw subbed!

Finding mags was an expensive chore, but I recently got a tip to try slightly modifying Mec-Gar 8-round mags made for the Bersa Thunder .380. Will give that a test. I won a GB auction today for a Sig P230, blued, that has the Crimson Trace grips installed. And, given that these sold new for over $500, and that you say finding these grips would be difficult, I think I got a pretty good deal.
    After seeing your review, I am even more happy to have won this. My wife took over my Sig P238 as her CCW, and I have missed it. This at least is the same caliber, if not the same design. Thanks for your well-crafted review.

    Great review and historical background. I purchased a couple of ss P232SLs new back around 2010-2012. Both are unfired, almost identical with the rubber wrap around grips, ss tritium sights, and black plastic mag floor plates. The only difference between them is the way the roll marks are done (fonts are ever so slightly different). Both say "Made in Germany". Your video has motivated me to take them to the range and try them out! Thank you.

    May I offer a slight correction to the specs section? The P232 came in four, not three finishes. They were stainless, blued, two tone and a rather rare Rainbow Titanium. This finish may be seen on many of Sigs other models as well. It is a rather beautiful look for such an already sexy pistol.

    The P232 model has cheaper MIM parts. I prefer the P230 SL because it has the real quality magazines everyone wants.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Metal Injection Molded (MIM) parts compared to CNC machined parts has been debated quite a bit. You can't blame manufactures for wanting to utilize processes that reduce their production costs. However, if that process reduces quality, that's where the problems come in to play.
      Now, if you've watched many of my videos you can see that I lean more toward the old school approach and products. I prefer machined all metal guns, for example. But I also appreciate what investment casting and polymer technologies have brought to the party. From what I can see, it would depend on the part and whose making it when it comes to MIM parts. So long as the manufacturer employs good quality controls and the molding was dialed in correctly, the part should provide reliable performance and service. And remember, we're talking SIG here. It's just my opinion but for overall functioning, I think my P232 is just a tiny bit better than my P230. At the same time, I also understand your preference.

    I have a P232 but it is all black. I’ve never seen another black one at the gun shows but I do see thee chrome ones. Any info you might have why they made so few black ones? Also I called Sig in Georgia to find out if I could get optic sights and they told me the sights are permanent and can not be removed. (Is that true?). I have the Cimson grip but my finger keeps blocking it. It is my favorite gun in my collection. Would like different sights and ability to use laser without blacking it. Thank you for your program. I learned a lot

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Probably because the stainless steel was just more popular. As for the sights, the front is pinned and the rear is dove tailed, so changing them out is possible. But I'd seek the services of a gunsmith to get it done right. There's even a whole article on the P232's sights at www.sig-guru.com/sig-sauer-p232/accessories/sights
      As for the Crimson Trace Laser grips, count yourself lucky, because you don't see those on the SIG 230 or 232 very often and they aren't made by CT anymore. Obviously, it's your pointing finger that's blocking the beam. I had the same problem on my PPK/S until I learned to keep my finger lower when off the trigger. I've never had that problem with my SIG, but I've heard that complaint before especially from those with big hands and/or thick fingers.

To be honest, the only CT laser grips I've ever seen are the ones on my own P232 and as I understand, Crimson Trace stopped making SIG P230/P232 grips almost a decade ago. So, expect these CT grips to be very rare. You might try auction houses like GunBrokers, but it's unlikely you'll find these grips by themselves. If you find them they'll be attached to a gun. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It's difficult to find these P232 SLs at local gun stores. Auction houses like GunBrokers are a more likely source. But getting a "deal" is another thing. I see black (blue) finish models going for about $750. The lowest price I've see was about $450. The stainless (SL) finish versions have been selling for about $850 on average. The best deal I've seen this year was about $575, but they often go for around $900 at auction. Of course you'll have transfer and shipping fees, so expect to add at least another $50 to that. Best of luck and don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Thanks, and good luck on getting the one you found. At under $800, that's not a bad price for a local dealer purchase.

    Wish it came in 9mm, can hardly find 380 ammo

      That would have been very cool. 380 has gotten easier to find here locally during the past 3 months. Running about .40 per round. I just picked up a 500 pack last week. Let's hope availability becomes more widespread. Thanks for watching and thanks for feedback. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Why is the slide stamped 9mm?

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent question. Note that it's stamped 9 mm kurz. "kurz" means "short" auf Deutsch which is the 380 ACP round. This designation is something you'll find on German made 380 firearms like this SIG and the Walther PPK. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. 380 is 9x17 compared to 9mm 9x19 its shorter so in Germany it is called 9 mm short/kurz.

      Since I don't own a Makarov, it's difficult for me to say one way or another. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on TH-cam.
