This is an excellent video. You know a lot of us amateurs got confused because a lot of instruction expresses how the lower body starts the downswing and clearing the hips. I know it has caused a lot of problems for me.
The instruction could be more concise but it is very good . I have been trying to stay centred around my lead foot but realise that staying centred around my right side is much better because I can then feel quite easily my weight change , This is a really instructive video for me . Well done Chris , this Gary appreciates your work . Many thanks .
This info has transformed my golf swing . I have over flexing my knees since forever, thinking I was ok . My address was as your intro, not now . Thank you so much , best advice ever for me.
Really liked this video, especially as I've always had trouble getting sufficiently stable in the lower body. I've had knee problems in both knees so stabilizing is the key to reducing injuries too. Thanks for the help.
This is just superb, been searching for "putting pressure on the golf ball" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (do a search on google ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.
I enjoyed watching this video as it explains the hip movement and how to get them to move properly, however one issue I see with this exercise is that the head seems to move in front of the ball, rather than staying behind it. Moving the head in front of the ball will cause inconsistent ball strikes...
+Ninja_Prime Glad you enjoyed the video. When you start the get the hang of these drills and start to add speed to them, you will notice that you will start to created more secondary axis tilt to help hold the head in behind the golf ball by clearing the hips out from the lead side and not driving so hard of the trail side. Good luck and let me know if your head moves out in front and I will further help you. - Chris Tyler
With your example, towards the end of your video , your head slides past the ball about a foot, this would most likely be a whip, you have to keep your head behind the ball , Chris !!
I have a question. I am a 2 handicap but I struggle with my balance on the follow through because my left foot rolls over after impact. I'm not sure how to prevent this. If you can give me a tip to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Hey Deion, Check to make sure your lead foot is stable at impact (glutes activated) and that you are pulling the lead hip away from target with the lead torso rotation by the obliques. Momentum from the club may try to pull you towards the outer portion of the foot. We have a great video on our site that talks about the straight left leg at impact.
I also have a question. I just won the US Master but also struggle with my balance on the follow through because my right foot rolls back at impact. I am not sure how to prevent this. If you can give me a tip to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Quick question, when you say (at 10:00) that you drive the heel in to the ground, this brings the hips up and stalls rotation, usually bringing the right leg/hip out and having the back too vertical, having to reach down with the head and arms. Is it posible to drive down without straightening the right leg and having all of these happen?
I am not sure I fully understand your question here. The driving of the lead heel into the ground and the lead obliques should be working together to move the lead leg to a straight position in the hitting area. This move allows you to pull the power out of the ground and also allow you to stabilize and control the rotation of the hips in the hitting area. Hope that helps. - Chris
You admonish golfers to set up with less knee flex, then at 9:01 you "sit" early in the downswing, thus _increasing_ knee flex. Why not start with correct knee flex and maintain levels? Seems like unnecessary clutter to me.
There is a slight sit move when working into the lead side that will increase the knee flex slightly to help hold the tush back in transition, so that you can post up properly without the hips chasing forward, which can cause a shift in spine angle down in the hitting area. We have a video called "sitting into the left side" on the website that breaks this down into more detail.
Thanks for responding Chris. The squatting tendency should be resisted imo; it's what keeps spine angle intact. The back/shoulders should _feel_ as if they are pulling away from club momentum, not going with it. It's one of those "opposing forces" things. I have no problem posting dead on, and never think about it. It's automatic if you swing back right, and I start with my knees where they'll be at impact. We'll just have to disagree. Cheers
@@robmetcalfe It's a natural result of applying centripetal force, no different than twirling a small weight on a string. The pulling of the club at transition, the opposite direction of club inertia, naturally compresses the body into the ground. You will also note most good swingers head pulls away from the target through impact; same principle. It's a matter of degree though. When twirling the string, the smaller the circle made by your hand, the faster the weight moves at the perimeter. The larger the hand circle, the slower the weight moves. The same is true in the golf swing. That's why I critique teaching learners to make an aggressive squat then snap the lead leg straight. All that will occur naturally and subtly if centripetal force is managed correctly at the hub, the spine at the collar bone. Your inability to "do it" is likely caused by losing leverage with the ground on the up swing, which makes it impossible to transition efficiently.
hmm this seems like a flip recipe.... This will cause many high handicappers to get their head and spine to far in front of ball. Add a rotation stall and boom flipping the hands becomes impossible to stop.
+Chase Reyes Not sure how this is teaching students to get to far out in front. If you are fully planted into the lead side and working to clear the lead hip (rotation), this will create proper secondary axis tilt to help shallow the golf swing out and keep the head behind the golf ball. This was just a focus video for the lower body only with some checkpoints to maximize stability in the swing. There are more ingredients for sure. - Chris Tyler
waaaaay too many details....way too much to check....cannot imagine attempting to play golf in this way.( what were those 3 things about knee flex? knee stacked? hip posted? where's my weight supposed to be at this point? Etc.)
The video is only 12 minutes in length total and we cover a ton of information that discusses the common faults and how to correct the faults. We like to show more cause and effect and then demonstrate the correct way to ensure great results for students of the game.
Hypothesis: I think golf tutors over-complicate the particulars of golf so as to confound the learner, and thereby make the learner dependent on an endless stream of upcoming lessons, forever baffled by theoretic detail, with no practicable way of 'feeling' this theory into their own swing. Discuss..
@@Rotaryswing It seems like it's easy to get swamped in detail, but I'm probably just looking to get a good swing without putting the effort in - which would make it my mistake. That's for your advice. I'll try to bitch less and listen more.
Please, you talk too much and show no real performance. Language cannot teach swing, only demonstration can.And show me that your discussion is correct by winning the Master's tournament. Until then, I cannot believe you are right. . So, please go away. If you do not go away, I erase you from my computer screen. Bye, bye!

Very simple to understand video. This is what Rory Mcilroy does and that’s why he has the best swing

Great stuff. Really needed this. Thanks a lot!
When you shift to your right side do you maintain the secondary axis tilt? If so then the head also shifts right?
What golf course is that?
Do you shift before you finish back swing ???
Ideally, yes you do shift before the backswing is fully complete.
I always feel like my lower body is moving way too much when I watch golf on TV. This really helped, thanks!
my hips moves forward during my shot which causes my shots to go right.. what is the reason for that.. and can u suggest me any drill
I suggest you investigate the parameters set by Sportsbox.
