    I can’t find the video that I made a comment a while back on the squat motion so here’s my update: it absolutely works! My mantra has been turn (into right hip), drop (squat), and pop (push up and through).

    Wow. Just found this video and followed. I always tried to push down on the lead foot (after recentering). Always topped it. This move has been magic for me. Keeps my upper body delayed instead of flying open. I just pressure down a little, and the rotation just happens. A ton of speed, also. Thank you, Harry. I've never seen another instructor teach this move.

    Excellent suggestion Harry on how to initiate the downswing with the lower body. I have been using your backswing recommendation and it has been working out quite well for me. Now, all I have to do is to implement this ground force move into my downswing. Well Done Harry!

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As your pushing back up from the squat the rotation and transition will happen naturally. These two things are things that will happen with you encourage this push off from the press down taking place. Hope this makes sense!

  • @Nickporter17
    @Nickporter17 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great lesson and explanations. However, I've been seeing people recommend starting to drop the arms during the forward shift, before starting the body rotation to help shallow the club/get the inside out path and keep the arms and hands in front and not lagging. What do you think about this thought/timing on starting the downswing before the "unrotation" of the body.

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Forward shift early is great if you’re able to delay the body rotation enough. I see too many golfers and students of mine in particular that becuase there flexibility isn’t great, when they shift forward they early extend and fire the hips (rotation too early) too early. So I’d suggest trying both but would favour this one I’ve shown if you’re someone looking for a way to create more room through impact every time!

    The backswing squat.
    Part of this video is great.However, I think the next move to the front leg and turning could use another video I think a lot of us get confused with the reaction force coming back up after the squat and is that the move that pulls our shoulders around on the plane or is it a timed combo of push off and turn.. It seems to be the part in a lot of videos that gets really missed about how to get around the corner from the top.. Great video!

      Thanks for your response. From the top of the swing and into the club changing direction, what is your thought as the exact sequence of the the upper body and the lower body? For example, right arm pulls down, right arm extends, squat move of both legs, right foot pushes forward, left hip rotates, right hand starts to release at 9 o’clock, left leg posts up etc etc. or do several of these things go at once? Or is this sequence way off? I still have trouble figuring out what the trigger is to start. And then what else happens. Thanks!

    Drill: trail hand on backswing does it need to stay connected with the armpit?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi thanks for commenting, it does'nt need to be tucked in to a point where it's too connected however we also don't want the trail arm to flare away too much from the body. As long as the right arm folds correctly you'll find this drill easy... but if you're struggling with this... the video that's coming out on Friday to do with the arms will be great for you to watch so stay tuned for that.

    • @harryshawgolf

    So does it mean one has to stand slightly taller in backswing to execute the little squat move ? Just feels to rotate to top of swing , to then execute that move, it’s difficult in the sequence as it’s no time to do. For me anyway. But if standing slightly taller, it’s easy to perform it.

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you will find that standing slightly taller (legs slightly straighter at the top) but i would set up as you normally would to then be a little taller at the top of the backswing to really enourage more of a squat move to begin the downswing. Hope this makes sense.

    Incorrect understanding of Newton's Third Law (you are not alone!). If you apply a force on the ground, the ground will apply a force back on you which is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. The object in question does not have to be stationary or at a constant velocity which is not like forces in equilibrium on the one body where there is no acceleration. Without acceleration, you cannot swing a golf club! Here endeth the lesson.

    • @harryshawgolf

    • @simonleach3812
      @simonleach3812 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for asking Harry. Some would just accuse me of being a pompous git. I'm trying out your move - the squat move is a more difficult concept to execute for many golfers and feels counter-intutiative but I must admit this is simpler than starting the downswing with "rotate" which can lead to "over the top" (as you say) and when you squat, you end up rotating anyway to complete the swing. Always known the old adage of "keep your head still" is wrong - it has a compact U-shape motion.

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Doing the squat move looks simple but it's so difficult. When I slow it down, I lose the rythm, when I speed it up, I would come over the top. But I will keep working on this.
