Great video, i know it is not that important on a supermoto, but what is the top speed of your fs 450? It looks that even on the straights you have not so much to lose on the sportbike
Super impressive. The amount of lean angle and grip a SM has in corners is insane. I still miss my Aprila SVX. But it's better this way. I won't die jong. LOL😂.
The other riders on the track do not appear to be very skilled. All of them were missing the apex of the corners and only were able to stay ahead by their machine's horsepower/acceleration.
The Willow Springs Streets track is very tight and technical. There are only a couple of places where the RR's power will do anything for you. The SM rider is really good, though.

You should get some clip ons it makes cornering so much better. Or a set of handle bars you can invert easily. It will help lower your center of gravity and puts your weight further forward.

What bike is this? I had an Aprilia sxv5.5 in full supermoto kit with a handful of trick bits back in the day and in everyday use it was a super bike killer 100% of the time. I always wondered if it could of done the same on the Track...
If we take the 2nd to last lap as an example, which its most likely his fastest lap around the course and you have good knowledge and understanding about how to handle a bike (in this case the supermoto) then you will see how i could shave off easy 2-3 seconds at bare minimum. ❤I DONT HAVE ANY BAD INTENSIONS ON THE DRIVER AND DONT WANT TO BE RUDE OR INSULT HIM IN ANY WAY!❤ He got great driving skill for sure, but there are some fatal mistakes in relation to driving line, break points and small hick-ups in the handling department (like the rear wheel locks while braking before corner entry f.e.) Would be awesome as well if we had time's shown but i am pretty sure the camera-bike has the faster laps overall and i also think that the superbike drivers dont ride as long or dont habe the same expirience as this driver. All in all great video! Be safe out there big boy❤
Would have loved to see you continue to carve out your own hot corners…but you seemed rather content to follow the sport bikes once you were in the corners with them. You had no problem entering very hot and late which is an absolute pleasure to watch. Just wish you carried through with that same aggression once around the other machines…because your combo could easily carry the corner faster than them. 👍
Not really I used to watch Rich Oliver on his 250cc yamaha gp bike embarrass 1000cc super bikes even at daytona. They would catch him on the straits but his corner speed was so high they couldn't keep up
The S1R is faster everywhere period, it's not even a discussion. It accelerates massively harder, can brake harder and has far more grip in the corners. It's not even a competition to put a S1R on track with a supermoto.
Street bike is slower in the turns due to lack of skill and not trusting his tires, then powers out once straightened up a bit. The dirt bike loses a lot of ground on the straights due to lack of horsepower, but he’s able to keep his momentum up in the turns to-the point that the street bikes are in his way! Fun to watch tho!
This is awesome! It's wild how much faster in the corners you are. I get the weight difference but does it make it faster being taller? Having the center of gravity being further from the contact point on the road have anything to do with it? Like is the SM more planted in the corner?
I think torque also plays a part. The Supermoto motorcycle develops its maximum torque at lower revs than the S1000 RR, which is an advantage on a track with many turns (even sharp ones). That's why you can brake later because you gain the necessary speed earlier when exiting the corner. On a more open track, with less twisty corners, the S1000 RR has the advantage.
even though the operator has smaller displacement bike, the entry into the corner seems later and catching up to the much faster bikes when they rip but slam on the brakes in the turn. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast?
awesome video, definitely looks like you were holding back so as to get some good following footage. Most impressive is that you could swap the wheels and you could go enduro riding with your buddies. I'm guessing most of those bikes you overtook were probably dedicated track bikes that aren't even road registered. This track was also pretty fast with long straights. Get on a tighter track, or even better on a 690 supermoto and a lot more egos would be crushed.
At the end of the day most of us may think we could race (we couldn’t) a supermoto would be best for everyday riding. Not to mention how much more fun you could have if your bike is set up correctly.
@@IamCarsonn The supposed "fragility" of KTMs is a really, really weird idea. I mean, these engines do the Dakar, Baja and the ISDE without turning a hair, but as soon as you put one on the track, they're supposed to do impersonations of 4th July? Would somebody explain the logic of that? And the other thing is that, coming from an Enduro background, you are not going to find easier mechanicals to work on, because the rider isn't allowed to receive outside assistance during an enduro, so it has to be fixed by the guy who rides it.

Excellent video and very relevant. Or course skill matters, for the same rider, when it's straight, power wins out; when it's twisty, maneuverability wins out. Applies to any kind of craft. Here's the thing--isn't it the turns that make it fun?

Love my handling over my power- having both is always good too though!

Big track s1000r is gone, short track super moto.......need a lot of space to use a 1000cc effectively
Awesome video also Awesome ridi g skills 👏👏
Street bike is slower in the turns due to lack of skill and not trusting his tires, then powers out once straightened up a bit. The dirt bike loses a lot of ground on the straights due to lack of horsepower, but he’s able to keep his momentum up in the turns to-the point that the street bikes are in his way! Fun to watch tho!
Where did you get that steering damper?
Its like a good togue race ! the ae86 vs the skyrine! love it!
Which tire youse the supermoto rider on this fast track ?
Metzler k1s
@@IamCarsonn racetec sm ?
Excellent riding on the Katoom! Now to be fair, it’s time to see the S1000RR on a Sumo track! 👍🏼😁
what camera was used to record this? it looks so good.
You’re a beast man! Sick video
Arrrrrh the corners, great riding !
awesome video, definitely looks like you were holding back so as to get some good following footage.
Supermoto bikes are just so damn fun to ride!!!! Definitely more my thing.
Your skill on the track is unbelievable!!!!
In other words, Carson is just HIM.
What a great battle
Is that Saiyan420_??
Streets of Willow. Loved racing that track. You should have challenged the S1KRR at Horse Thief! Loved racing HT on mr SM!
This quality 🫶🏼
What was thst green bike that passed you and drove off like you were standing still?
That's my boy Gio. Double the horsepower will tend to do that 🤣
You'll see the session of us riding together in my next video, he was haulin 💨
Looked like a ZX10R
At the end of the day most of us may think we could race (we couldn’t) a supermoto would be best for everyday riding. Not to mention how much more fun you could have if your bike is set up correctly.
That’s some awesome riding! I was leaning with every corner LOL
It smc 690 or supermoto 450 4t based on exc 450f?
Real question is, which one has to get rebuilt after 10 of these track days?
Neither?
@@IamCarsonn The supposed "fragility" of KTMs is a really, really weird idea. I mean, these engines do the Dakar, Baja and the ISDE without turning a hair, but as soon as you put one on the track, they're supposed to do impersonations of 4th July? Would somebody explain the logic of that?
And the other thing is that, coming from an Enduro background, you are not going to find easier mechanicals to work on, because the rider isn't allowed to receive outside assistance during an enduro, so it has to be fixed by the guy who rides it.
@@davidcolin6519 Can you find a working 2000s KTM ? Because i certainly cannot.
On the other hand, I can lift a rock and find 5-6 working CRFs.
That said, today's KTM are nicely built and you find crap tons of accessories but the plastic/$ ratio is ridiculous.
Sherco > ALL. :p
@@cethyhnc9305Can I find a working 2000s KTM?
Of course I F*CKING can. In fact, I have a mid 90s KTM and pretty much everybody I know who rides off road has a KTM. Where I live, it's such a no-brainer that it is pretty rare to see anything else.
Maybe it is because you're in The States, where I believe dealers are spread pretty thin and therefore maintenance might not happen when it needs to, but here in €Ireland that really isn't a problem.
And if you insist on buying OE plastic, that's your problem. Again, where I am, there's a sh1t-ton of plastics readily available.
Funny that you should mention Honda for parts. When I had Hondas, parts availability was absolutely dire. I had one bike that I literally couldn't use because of a simple broken part, and I couldn't use the bike for over 6 months!
Excellent video and very relevant. Or course skill matters, for the same rider, when it's straight, power wins out; when it's twisty, maneuverability wins out. Applies to any kind of craft. Here's the thing--isn't it the turns that make it fun?
Going from 100 kmph to 250 kmph in few seconds is very much fun too ;- )
Imagine he had a Husaberg FS650 …. great Riding !
Both have it's own advantages, and this video explains it. I love this race
What are the camera settings?
Is that you with the 65hp dirt bike @IamCarsonn?? If so, you are fucking awesome! 👍
Pulse goes up, adrenaline rises, breathing harder...and then I realize, that I am just sitting in my chair watching this guy riding his bike god-like! 👍
Wow! I just bought a RC390 race prepped bike for track days. Maybe I should have just put SM wheels & tires on my 350 EXC-F!
Making short work of all the big bikes in the corners 🙌🔥
A joy for the eyes.. my compliments
I way prefer light nimble bikes over power- great vid! Give me a tuned 250 any day over a liter bike! I really prefer a balance though- the Ninja 636's are my favorite Bikes, closely followed by the older 750 Ninjas with the double round headlights- I mostly like them for their looks though, the 636 has it all though! Love my handling over my power- having both is always good too though!
Each position and purpose is different, so it can't be compared to who is faster on the road. Just enjoy it each^^♡
Old good advice to novice rider, was buy dirt bike and modified it to for track race. Many succesful rider began with dirt bikes in ice track (Jarno Saarinen). You are fast or not, with it.
It´s a 690 SMC-R, true? Great video!
Smr 450
Is that a 500 or a 450 and what gearing do you run?
