I honestly think that the shit truckers have to deal with out on the road is even more dangerous, and takes just as much skill. And the pilot doesn't have dozens of people in smaller helicopters constantly diving in front of him and slamming on the brakes. You're just as cool in my book! ☺
You can run it into the red for up to 5 mins if needs be. Max power for a hover climb is normal. Once he got some forward momentum he gained lift and was able to reduce the power.
