Mr Lennon, i understand you're not making videos so often anymore but i just wanna say i really appreciate your channel as someone just getting into safety razor shaving. I really dig your positive attitude and no-nonsense video style. that being said: I wanted to ask you a completely unrelated question :P do you have any advice for someone interested in getting into to voice acting? people have always told me i'm good at different voices and accents, and as a fellow musician/ singer, i have a lot of fun experimenting with changing my voice to suit specific scenarios, so it's always been a dream of mine to do voice acting on a professional level, but i have no idea where to start. Do voice acting gigs do old school audition reads, could i get one with no pro experience or reference, where would i even look to find them etc.. if you could shed nay light on this i would really appreciate it. Love your vids, hope you and the family are doing well. Cheers
I feel this so hard right now. I only found this wonderful video because I was searching "how to shave with the gravity straight razor", because I made a mess of my face. lol.
Shavette is my go to. 3 tips for you to make sure you get less irritation: 1) like you said, the heel and toe are key. It's made me more aware of the "heel" and "toe" with my neckline with a DE razor now too. take your time, and for nooks and crannies make sure you just use half the blade and keep the corner away from the valleys. For places like front mid chin below the lips or below the nose. Scoop, don't try to pull it through. 2) for regular places like cheeks, a good way to tell if you're using the right pressure is to make sure you can hear the crackling feedback sound of cutting hair. If you don't hear it, it's a good chance you're pressing too hard. I find myself doing this too often. The feedback matters more with DE's in making sure you have the right angle, but it's a great tool for pressure with shavettes. 3) For the first pass, it'll be about that 35/45 degree angle. For passes with less hair, that angle will decrease. Especially for the last pass on the cheeks. Otherwise, you might dig into your skin.
I am also new using shavettes, so I have been mostly learning shaving my cheeks and neck and finishing with safety razor for now. I am retired and no longer shave everyday. I find that shavette goes thru multiple day beards much easier than safety razor.
Im still young lol and I started with 5 blade razors. Gave me intense razor burns. And I wouldn’t be able to shave until a week after. So I went to safety razors! Love them so much! Then I was like why the heck not you know, bought my first shavette and I practice on my hands shaving my hair off my hands you know? And it worked really well! Just work on the angle you know? And get comfortable using that angle for the whole shave. I love your vibe and humor! I subscribed for that! And I love how daring you are trying a shavette for the first time! You did very good and love your content dude!
I picked up wet shaving almost exactly a year ago when I was 16 and I actually started with a shavette because I wanted to use it for my beard lines, I then picked up a Gillette New LC and found I cut myself more with that than the shavette. I also really like growing out a beard for 1 or 2 months and then taking it off with the shavette, I like the way the brush and lather feel with the beard and it’s kinda cool to see all the hair come off along with the change in appearance. I haven’t fully shaved in a few months but I think I’ll wait till the new year to shave again, starting the year right. I think my shavette luck was probably just because I was using derbys, though I know that’s not your style.
Hello Brian. Good to see you giving the shavette a go. I was really nervous about using them when I started out. Try practicing using it without the blade in. Just to feel comfortable holding it. Take a look at the shaving channel called SHAVE AND BUTCHER. He holds a straight razor like a bread knife. Using only one hand, he shaves both sides of his face. 👍
@@davec1768 I have been using my parker shavette every day for a little over a year now and i think i got really lucky with it because i actually did think they were for learning.
I actually learned how to shave with a shavette before a straight with my parker SRX. When I tried using a straight razor for the first time It surprised me how easy and less aggressive it was compared to a shavette.
When I have the day off and can take my time there is nothing like a nice kamisori shave. I live in NYC if you get up this way I’ll show the good not tourist spots. Lol.
7:16 saw a forum post a while ago where someone posted commercial pictures or something like that, where the "professional" looking person really didn't know what he was doing
In my experience, if you hold the shavette the way you are suppose to, you are going to cut yourself really bad. Hold it the way it is convenient for you, so your hand does not block your view and you won't have any issues. You should have stretched the skin. When I don't stretch the skin, I get bad irritation later in the day.
I actually just got mine in today, the yellow one as a matter of fact. I’ve been using a straight razor for at least 6 months now and this is my 3rd one. I have to say, this is the best one by far. The only problem I had was loading the blade because the front was pinched a little too tight. Just opened it up a bit. Other than that , it’s nice
Happy Friday Brian! I was curious what you would recommend for someone who suffers from shave irritation. I have been using a King C Gillette Safety razor and I think it is my technique. Any tips for shaving around the neck area?
You're a brave man my friend...I one day will try a shavette.. I have enjoyed razorine type razors..the razorock switch V1 is phenomenal..the razorock switch V2 is good albeit more aggressive.. The down side is they're aluminum so if you drop it it'll ding.
When you said "my nose was in the way" I remembered why I do not use a shavette: I must use glasses, so they too are staying in the way of the shavette (and on the nose...). Therefore I believe that cut-throat razors should be used, preferably, only by the barber while you are havin your beard cut...
I remember talking with you a while back about using barbasol 1919 for the shavettes due to it's slickness. You'll have to let me know if you try that out!

You should try some Facon Shavettes, I think their better quality. Their definitely a lot easier to use without insane amounts of blade exposure. My favorites from Facon are " the warrior", " the knight" and " the Maestro"
What's even the point of using a shavette if it has as much exposure as open comb safety razor? Double edged blades are cheaper and it's safer when you don't need to snap them, so if you use shavette, you're either a professional or want as much risk in daily routine as possible.
Have you ever tried the Lord L6 razor? I've been watching your videos and want to get in to wet shaving but I'm trying to decide on a beginner razor to pick up. I heard the L6 was a pretty good one. I also watched your review on the Van der Hagen one and am considering that too. Love the videos man!
had one of those and ended up throwing it out. the edges of the blade are so exposed and the blade chatters in the holder. Those gravity razors are like sweeney todd level of bloodletting.
You are braver than I am my friend! I don’t think I will ever be brave enough to try using a shavette or straight razor. I remember one your last videos using those plastic ones where you gave your upper lip a really big slice, yikes! I do hope one day that Space Soaps does return, I missed out when Bob was making them a few years ago. Quite a few of the holiday soaps are starting to appear, are you going to pick up any this year? There are some guys on TH-cam who can do a three pass straight razor shave inside of 8 minutes or so, and a shavette shaver who does three passes in under 5 minutes, usually.
