@@RT-ig5cs His coaching style wouldn't have worked in the NBA. Brad Stevens was the last mentally insane coach although he kept his emotions inside; even he had difficulty getting through to grown men especially with established allstars/superstars. He would need a team where his front office and ownership are like the Miami Heat and the Spurs.
Best coach in America regardless of what sport and I’m not even a UConn fan. I loved his line about being obsessed and not taking it easy whatsoever. He’s raised the bar for what it takes to compete for championships in college basketball
This is prolly the best job in the world, college head coach at a top program , building ur dream team with top high school recruits and the portal, shit would be so fun
Thank you again Graham. You’re the best at this in our present day. In my opinion. There’s a lot of great interviewers but you have a way about you and you get the interviews we want to see. Well done
great interview graham. really enjoyed getting an in-depth look at how coach hurley runs his program. i like how you have the full interview and then broken down into segments of interest. really appreciate your hard work. cheers from southern ontario, canada 🍁
Holy shit! I've always known that Bob Hurley Snr gave people fits, inspirational fit, but to see it from lil Dan is just awesome! Amazing insight, loved this, thank you!
I think this guy is going to be one of the best ever. May already be. He has that kind of intensity and presence you see from coaches like Saban or Lombardi where you get the sense that it’s less sport for them and more like religion or war. Pair that with a sharp mind for logistics and Xs & Os and you’re looking at someone who’s going to rip the faces off people he’s up against.
Coach Hurley is an amazing coach. I think that goes without saying. I’ve been coached by guys like this and (admittedly) it rubbed off on me. 😂🤷🏿The problem with these videos is there is a 6th grade basketball coach who hasn’t played since he was in junior high who is gonna see this and be like “that is how I am gonna coach my team”. 🤦🏿🤦🏿 There are very few players today (outside of the top college programs) who respond well to this style of coaching)
Proud to be from Connecticut and lifelong Huskie fan. The basketball is the purest there. People just go there for the basketball only. Not the click bait, not the NIL, not the fame or notoriety. It's just basketball there.
It works because UConn is winning. There are other college coaches who are just as obsessive as Hurley, but they're not winning nearly as much. On those programs, the players hate the coaches.
I don’t know if the other coaches do it as well but Hurley is also good at bonding and then building them up during a game. He specifically talks about it. And while not ground breaking psychology often times the connection with the team or coach is.
Yep! Which is why this style doesn’t last long term. Most top players don’t wanna be coached like this. However, if I was a great high school player I would want a coach like this because I’d be trying to get to the league. Best believe these type of coaches will coach all this bad habits out of you. 😂
As a Tar Heel, I love Hubert Davis and think he’s going to become a fantastic coach, but Dan Hurley is the absolute best. Love him or hate him, but you better respect him!
I definitely agree. I also think it’s the environment that also helps players to have accountability. You don’t usually hear about college kids apologizing for not trying their best.
If you win the championship, there shouldn’t be any complaints. Winning is hard, practice hard so the games will be easier. Hustle is talent. The only people complaining about him being hard on his players are soft. Soft people soft coaches lose. The real world is hard, and it ain’t easy. This is a good lesson
Facts, this just goes to show he made the right choice staying at the college level. Can't talk to grown men making millions like this, there'd be an immediate fracture
Theres a difference between coaching at UCONN and winning national championships and whatever level you're at brother. No offense to you, but YOU cannot talk to kids or your staff like this. This vid should not feel validating to you. There isnt as much at stake at your level and them kids and your staff are just gonna be miserable if you act like Hurley. Dont do it man, find another way.
I understand the passion from a great coach, but I feel like obsessiveness is too much. I’ve heard in either this video or another video that he said it’s about winning and losing only. I really don’t think it’s about that. it’s about growing and playing the game you love in my personal opinion. There’s no doubt he’s a great coach and I have all the respect for him, but I feel like his methods I disagree with. again. I have all the respect for him and this incredible thing he’s built at Ucon.
It's true that his intensity and attention to detail is second to none. However, his ass-chewing antics, and constant bitching would not go well if they had lost in the past 2 NCAA TOURNEYS. And theres the rub. Without his relentless pushing/coaching one could argue they wouldn't have reached the level they have. You put up with a lot when you're winning. He's old-school tough.
He knew to turn down that pro Job. He is made for the youngsters in the college, even Olympic and International coaching. NBA is too Laid back for his intensity.
Yea watching this is eye opening for sure, this man would get run out of the Lakers in a few months like John Bielein. You cant talk to pro's like this, let alone Lebron and AD. Hurley is a college coach thru and thru, or yes a USA team stint where the guys know they only have to deal with him for two months. Shit would go sour any longer than that
That's why he and staff are best in the nation!

1 thing I learned about coaching is the hours required. It’s a fun job, but 12-16 hour shifts are tough.

Yeah prolly
@@notqt1367 I bet no great coach has ever called it "fun".
The level of attention is second to none. Holy crap.
The best line, to the ball boy " stop day dreaming".

Wow...This is great stuff! Nice peak into the inner workings of Hurley and his staff. Glad Hurley stayed at the college level!

Accountability,,from the bottom to the top !! I have always respected a hard boss because they brought the best out of me.
He's like every Eastern European coach I had growing up, just way more calm and soft spoken. And no, I'm not kidding.

Great work. Love the inside look to this passionate program.

He also gets guys to stay and keep developing. In today’s game with NIL that says a lot.
