I think this is something I can definitely relate to and it was honestly a turning point in my recovery. I used to use a lot of cannabis for my ibs pain but I quit back in March since it spiraled into a mental addiction. I distinctly remember a day about a month or so afterwards where I used it again in a moment of weakness. The next day it constipated me (like thc usually did) but instead of fasting or taking a laxative like I’d usually do, I had this epiphany of “what if I just kept eating?” and for some reason my brain emotionally didn’t want to use a laxative. After that point I had a lot of water retention from refeeding (which I later learned was mostly because of a high sodium/unhealthy diet) but it eventually subsided and I gained a ton of healthy weight and strength and I feel great now. Granted I still get constipated a lot and I’m in the bathroom a lot but at this point it’s less of an eating disorder and more so just ibs.
I also definitely relate to pushing against everyone else’s advice. I tend to have a stubborn personality, but eating disorders really make a person even more stubborn when offered help. When you’re so deep in that hole all logic seems to go out the window

jakerabbit25 jakerabbit25 Man, nothing but respect for you with pushing through figuring out where the IBS starts/end and where it coincides with the eating disorder. For real, that blending of legitimate physical response to food and the mental side of an ED has to be tough to figure out, but it definitely sounds like you’re figuring it all out, one step at a time.
Sometimes, you reach a point of just having to FORCE yourself to go against what your brain is telling you, since it seems like all logic is thrown out the window with an eating disorder, or like the ‘ED Reality’ is the opposite of what needs to actually happen to get closer to recovery.
As always, thanks so much for the input man. Really appreciate you sharing your story, and how far you’ve come. Keep on going 😎

Making this list of "what if" challenges for myself right now. This is a kickstart that my body really really needs. Ultimately, by challenging these irrational fears and beliefs we are all only going to be made stronger: mentally, physically, AND emotionally. Thank you for your amazing content and support

You are doing a really good job! 😊As a recovered anorexic myself I find it really important that this is addressed by males as well because many men do not dare to admit their EDs🙄

Johanna Getbackyourlife Thank you so much! And that’s definitely a goal of mine - to just encourage other males (and females!) to open up and share. The more voices we have in this space (male or female) the better 🙂

@@CameronYoder Yes, I definitely agree.:) Especially because it affects so many and a lot of information out there is simply wrong and good help is rare.;)
