I believe the earliest Carhartt buttons had the ('s) at the end. They dropped the apostrophe in the early 1900s. I found a similar one near some railroad tracks in my hometown. I researched when the tracks were laid and learned that was in the 1890s. So, it very likely it's a first year issue lost by a railworker. Love this hobby!
I love finding those early Carhartt's. I just love finding those old work wear buttons. Very symbolic of the hard working Americans that built this great country. ATB Greg
Thanks so much Gary and I love inserting the old photos into the episodes. It really helps tp put the finds into historical context. More railroad pictures coming up this morning! ATB Greg
Well Greg, another great hunt. What a better way to start my morning, watching your video while drinking my cup of coffee. Have a great day my friend and thanks for another awesome video
That's cool motto, the 'dig it all' in the beginning. That's what my wife tells me every now and then, because I tend to be so picky with the signals I dig.😅
I've been detecting like that my entire life especially in Europe where so many good things come in so low on the VDI scale. I've found so many amazing things that most would think were just trash in the ground. You should give it a shot at one of your best spots for a day and see what you might come up with or might have missed before. Thanks so much for watching, Pauli! ATB Greg
Very welcome, Bill and glad I could help you out with the great sausage clip mystery that we have all experienced out there! LOL Thanks so much for watching this one! ATB Greg
Did that 1910 Lincoln profile look different then?---I'm wondering if that handle could have been from an old Hoosier cabinet?---I'm always amazed at the research you do & the histories of various objects you're able to uncover!---This never gets old! (And getting to hear the birdsong in your part of the country, different from mine!)
No, the profile remained the same throughout the years. Not sure on the handle. It's definitely a chunky one. I'm glad you enjoy the history I'm able to share in the videos. I enjoy researching the finds and learning new things from them. Glad you enjoy the bird songs. I am always happy when I can catch them on film while I'm out there. Thanks for watching! ATB Geeg
Yes, I agree with that 1,000,000%! I love buckling down on an area and really working out the signals. It's almost always very rewarding. Thanks as always for watching this one, Stuart! ATB Greg
Greg, thank you for the sausage casing clip identification example. I found many of those on an old site last week and wondered what they were. Cool finds on this one 👍
Greg great finds that tell a story about the past and how the earth hides and reveals decades later. I always enjoy the wheat cents. Increasing your sensitivity made all of the difference. Great hunt and happy the weather was so nice. We reached 80 on Tuesday and broke a record. Today the high was 35. We are planning to get out this weekend. 👏👍😀
Thanks guys and increasing the sensitivity definitely made a nice difference out there. It's always nice to be able to hunt a site that can let you dial it up a bit. The weather has been nice and warm here but I will not complain about that. Keeps that heating bill down! :) Hope you two make some awesome discoveries out there and I will be watching! ATB Greg
Glad you enjoyed this one, Pauli and I remember when I detected in Germany, by November the hunting season was over for me until April or May. I can only imagine the winters in Finland! Stay warm over there.
Very welcome and glad I could help you out with the great sausage clip mystery that we have all experienced out there! LOL Thanks so much for watching this one! ATB Greg
Great video! I LOVE that you take the TIME to accurately identify what you find. We dig those sausage casing clips down here in Louisiana too. :) great stuff.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed watching this one. I try and get the ID as accurately as I can and when I can't, I throw it out there as the week's Mystery Find. Finding the items is just the beginning of the fun! ATB Greg
Thanks so much and I really appreciate you watching them. I also appreciate you mentioning Finding America as well and a huge congrats on finding that incredible Bust Half! Way too cool and give my best to your producer as well! ATB Greg
Very cool, Gene. They must have been some more contemporary and nefarious jewelers that had sold those to someone back in the day. Thanks a lot for watching! ATB Greg
Yes sir! Thought that would be nice as Christmas is approaching. Unfortunately, the Equinox coils will not work with the Manticore. Appreciate you watching, Barney! ATB Greg
I'm in Tennessee also. How did you get permission to dig a public park? I tried to hunt on a swimming area of Percy Priest Lake and got ran off by a game warden.
It depends on the type of park you are hunting. I believe that particular park is a state park and some info I found on that one is this: Metal detecting at Percy Priest Lake is only allowed at the Cooks Picnic Area, the Anderson Road Picnic Area, and the Seven Points Campground (for registered campers). Written permission is required if you want to go metal detecting in any other area. I would suggest talking with the patrons there and seeing what you can do to gain written permission. The parks I generally hunt are city or county and are open to detecting in the towns where I hunt. Some do have restrictions as to how you can detect. For example, one town only allows it if you do not use full sized shovels and only dig with a small hand digger. That works for me as I never use a big shovel to dig my targets unless I am in the woods. I usually still use my had digger in the woods anyway. Hope this helps.

I really like the way you interject the old pictures in your finds. Especially when you find railroad items. Keep up the great finds.
Thanks so much Gary and I love inserting the old photos into the episodes. It really helps tp put the finds into historical context. More railroad pictures coming up this morning! ATB Greg

greg that knife blade is what fancy folks called a fish knife. used to eat fish politely. butter knifes were less sharp at the end.
Thanks a lot Marcel! I learn something new everyday! ATB Greg
Good job brother

Those jar lids really can impersonate a coin!
That's for sure!
I believe its Southern Bell telephone and telegraph company
I have 2 brass wedding bans that are stamped 18K that I found at an 1700s home site some years back
Very cool, Gene. They must have been some more contemporary and nefarious jewelers that had sold those to someone back in the day. Thanks a lot for watching! ATB Greg

Thanks Robin. Hope you had one too.
How is Chris? Haven't seen him in a while.

I've been on a run with them lately! LOL
The star of Bethlehem.. will the coils from the 800 fit the Manta core ?
Yes sir! Thought that would be nice as Christmas is approaching. Unfortunately, the Equinox coils will not work with the Manticore. Appreciate you watching, Barney! ATB Greg
Greg, what’s this crazy “you must brush twice a DAY” idea you speak of?

To me, it looks more like a poured bearing cap than a handle.
Thanks for the help with that and I appreciate you watching this one. ATB Greg
Next week will tell more of the tale
Not sure what you are referring to, Brian. Appreciate you watching this one. ATB, Greg
@@FindingAmerica sorry about that, for some reason that comment went to the wrong channel lol!
