I went there yesterday night and indeed this is next level Pad thaï. For me what makes the whole difference is the use of fried dried shrimps (koong het tord). Regarding the sauce, I’d say there is some kind of nam prik pao. And the guy’s wok skills are worth a visit!
We are traveling to Thailand late December and discovered your channel recently as part of our usual street food research plan. So impressed with the way you engage with your local Thai community and your passion for great street food. This video tonight cemented that! My wife commented that we cannot go wrong if we eat every meal based on your content. We try to exclusively eat street food when traveling! So your insights are invaluable! I reckon we might be heading to this place for our first meal!
Silom - found a small new hotel down a back alley near Sala Daeng road. Picked it by doing a Google street view wander for food stalls. Later we found your Silom videos and were very chuffed!
We always had the hotel pick us up to guarantee we actually made it to the hotel. They will hold a sign up with your family name outside immigrations. Can’t trust taxi’s at airport
Just had this based on your recc! I'm one of those guilty of dissing pad thai as a touristy dish. This has singlehandedly converted and destroyed any other version for me. Not sure if i'll be able to have pad thai anywhere else after this. Had it twice on my recent trip. I'll be thinking about it for awhile.
Having salivated over your videos for months, Gary, I did a last minute detour to BKK to savour some of the great Thai fare that you'd featured and recommended. Being Asian myself and having been to BKK gazillion times in my lifetime, and having lived in BKK for a short year and a half, I'd never quite fancied Pad Thai for some unknown reason, until tonight. My first meal in BKK. Although not quite the traditional version--I had the one with two large prawns topped with "snacks", and it sure didn't disappoint. Narok Taek's version is a heavenly marriage of sweet, tangy, savoury and spice (from the devilishly spicy chilli flakes that got unceremoniously blown into my eye), with an unexpected blast of wok-hei (char to the westerners) and crunch from the "snacks" I'd definitely be back to Narok Taek at my next visit to BKK. YUMMERS! ❤ Off to your other recommendations tomorrow--the Pad Kra Pow at the Original PKP 1993, and a handful from Talat Phlu, until my ever-growing belly. Keep up your good work, mate! ❤❤❤
Lat Ya when I was young, there were full of ancient sukiyaki on both sides of the street in the commercial building. But nowadays, there are only Jim-Jum restaurants along the road. I counted more than 16, but there are still some old sukiyaki restaurants left. The road that comes from ICONSIAM and turns into Lat Ya Road.
Awww... you're so well loved 🥰 and you look very content in today's vlogging 😊 Pad-thai dish is to die for! My afternoon is complete, so enjoyable, thank you 🙏
By far the best pad Thai I have ever eaten. It was such a delight. Came to the table so hot on the sizzle plate. Topping excellent. We bought our own beer and sat inside. Honestly I don’t think I’ll ever experience this until next time I come from Australia. I thanked chef when I left and he was so kind and gracious ❤
Quality vlogging of the highest order. Emotion and enthusiasm you can feel, food to die for. Excellent work, my friend. Take a day off, you’ve earned it
Hi Gary. Thanks for all the videos. Has help my wife and I heaps while we've been here this time. Today we started by visiting the street food vendors you and Joe Parilla featured a day or so ago along the banks of the canals. Unfortunately the crab place was closed but we enjoyed the other three. Just to top off our day we went out to the eat at the Pad Thai place in this video. This guy can sure work a wok. The meal was delicious. A version of Pad Thai all his own. We let him know your video had inspired us to eat there. Thanks again for all the tips. Cheers John🙏
That Pad Thai for me he cook the right one for noodel from i saw in this clip the noodle might strick and soft like that not dry and you can feel how soft and juicy that i love to cook like this too and the chelf he put more interesting with many flaver and texture on in one plate that look so yummy and amazing , also the first met from both of you from long time no see that so lovely ... can see how he missed you, seem he is a very nice person one.
Great video Gary, Pad Thai looks amazing 🤩!!We are heading over the pond in 2 days! Our kids (11 and 13)have no clue to the morning we leave. So, sooo looking forward to trying out some amazing dishes! 1st night Bangkok, 5 nights Chiang Mai, 1 night Hat Yai, then off to Ko Lipe for a few nights. Then back to Bangkok. Super exciting! Haven’t been to Thailand since 2008❤
Awesome content Gary, I loved the Welcome long time not seeing my friend. I would love the recipe to make Cowboy's KRIPTONITE that went on top of that Pad Thai.👍👍❤❤😋😋
That! was a special one. I wish I still had my Thai "river cowboy" hat that I brought back to the states with me (it used to be worn by the guys with the long boats and the huge eight cylinder Chrysler hemis and Ford V-8s). That being said, his version of Pad Thai was spectacular, and I was hoping for a look at that fermented sausage later. If and when I get back there, I'll need you to ferry us around Thon Buri and the environs since I still never forced myself to read Thai, although I can speak a little of it (nitnoy).
Ooof ,thankyou so much for this. Got a 3 day bkk trip in a couple of weeks, definitely hitting the pad Thai and kor moo yang joints.will try to make it to that salad place too
Agree- best Pad Thai I've ever had. I've shown this to some Thai chefs. Their feedback is to tell the guy to take care of his wrists and arms or he'll get carpal tunnel syndrome.
Missed by 2 hours, but watching now and salivating.😋. The portion, wow, it is going to take me at least 2 attempts to finish that. I see that your channel is inching nearer to 40k. 😲👍. Good going, Gary!
Fantastic Vid Gary!! Even liked your cinematic 'side angle' interview doco style edit :) That food looked incredible. Wiping up the drool as we speak!!!
Just like to correct you about Lodchong Singapore noting to do with Singapore 🇸🇬 but the name Lodchong Singapore come from the originally shop that do this Lodchong in Bangkok but they’re shop right near by movies theater that name “Singapore” in China town that why it call Lodchong Singapore.
Everything looks great, so much colour. If we had more time, we'd love to stop by for the Pad Thai. Do you have any recommendations for places near the airport? I think the area is called Lat Krabang xxx
I was last time there and this restaurant must have a michellin recomendation, because its insane! im coming back in 4 days and the first lunch will be there
Great Great video Gary!!! So good mood. Pad thai was gourmet version, absolutely delicious. Thalat Phlu salad looks amazing. I put these To my map. Are these places difficult To reach? These are not close To mrt or bts...but one of the Best videos from you😊

looklike i think she did " yum nung moo" that mean pork skin . it very famaus in trang (soutern) but it different from Larbmoo, Larbmoo use Ground roasted rice but Yum nung moo use roasted coconut and banana blossom
Hi Gary, so glad we found your channel, the content is superb. Coming from our home in Spain in January for a three-day Bangkok stay in Sukhumvit 2. As much as I want to try the street food, do you think it would be safer to stick to Terminal 21 or Icon Siam to experience Bangkok cuisine? My wife does not have a strong tolerance when eating in Asia. Thanks and keep up the great vlogs.
I grew up in a hundred something year old wooden house behind that Co-Op building where the Jim Joom stall is. The duck soup noodle shop serves during the day is also a !ocal institution!
Well… arriving in Bangkok tomorrow.. Wednesday….Sathorn ….expecting the weather to be hot, and time to look for some of Gary’s recommendations !!!! A week of relaxing, street food and getting my camera out !!!
Narok Taek ( Hell Crack ) Pad Thai Restaurant This restaurant cooking very well. Sometimes you have to call to order. Confirm that it's really delicious. The route to this Pad Thai restaurant is not difficult, just cross the boat from Tha Ratchawong Pier to Tha Din Daeng and take a small truck. motorcycle win Or the bus number 20 tells the cashier that he got off before reaching the Pratform mall.
We live on the east side of the river, but south of that in Samut Prakan. I am sad that as a beer lover, I don't like Thai beer. I never drink Chang. We have a place in Nan Prov too.
