Glad to see people still use old-school gear and or coming back to it... I've always cast conventional reels since the first rod in my hands as a child... and my choice of reels is always going to be a conventional setup or fly rod setup in fresh or salt water I'm still slinging 12’ surf rods with a vintage ABU Garcia Ambassadeur 10000c... in heavy surf… There's a lot to be said about ABU Reels… they were made to last a lifetime...! Hello Thank you for the comment. I think the reel: www.amazon.com/KastKing-Baitcasting-Fishing-Clicker-Version/dp/B093Q5J4X3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3A27DYNIDGWQZ&keywords=kastking%2Bzephyr%2Bbfs%2Breel&qid=1691527658&sprefix=Kastking%2Bz%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1 would work fine for BFS, they have left and right handle. If you are right handy, want to go left handle to cast/retrieve same hand.
Or eBay, you can get these: www.ebay.com/itm/353072843048?hash=item5234c80928:g:FSoAAOSwvHlet453&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8Aq8V8MYQ5d4ypdqEe3VA66qWWiqw9TpwhmeBqu5hpRO3prWxHmZn9IJlDMy2jzrRcf%2BsL%2FEdsOwJBvfgP3vMdXUwv9VkPvsCgPFzTvLEo43D0w0B6RaQdvvGb5GNgM5MV88lLv5voUCmwS5INtJQ6ckQ7L4rXTOzeT9jo9mwPh%2FPTS6etYo%2FTKThTWQsOmYedVtAiuEBv7JvE%2BO1RJJSnsEsnz2v45R6wwjpaTAcJ5ziUAEW0Qh9FBoibgQKz0RSjrEAVRxYd6aPeCmRpOE4OVPz9Dv%2BxE93Ub9SA3PDsVOhR6sGy6HUygJK3gY3fPMkA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_rEk--6Yg I have one of them 4.6 feet. It actually really good for casting small bait well.
Hi! I love to watch your videos!! Nice job fishing the Pit River. Very cool catch at 2:50 , sacramento pikeminnow! :) What length rod would you recommend for your style of BFS fishing? Is 4.9 ft long enough for casting in the rivers? Also when should I use sinking vs suspending minnow lures? Thanks!!
Thank you for the comment. I use 5.2 feet this time, but I use 4.7 for another River. So your rod length is totally fine for BFS. I prefer to use sinking like heavy sinking for casting to upper current or pocket waters. For down current, suspending minnow works better. Well, it depends on the River flow, speed and season. It always fun to choose kind of minnows works for the day.
@@Angler216 Thank you so much! BTW do you know any trout fishing rivers near sf bay area? I live so far away from many of the places you have fished at haha
Where would the closest lodging be to these rivers and what towns are nearby? What is your personal best trout and where was it caught? Great video with beautiful scenery. Makes me want to go fishing there some day.
Thank you for the comment, Burney or Fall River Mills are closest town you can stay, but not many choices. Major city is Redding, unless you want to camp at river.
Thank you always for good comment. No I have not fished those this year yet. But upper Kings flow is getting dropped now. I think I will go soon to take a look. It may be fun… or nothing.
@@Angler216 Upper sac was great. Caught about 40+ rainbows in 2 days all around Dunsmiur. Most around 1/2 - 3/4 lb fish but still fun to catch. All on Jerkbaits. I got 1 brown around 1 lb and 1 rainbow about 2 lbs. I'm going back up to Upper Sac again next month with the family. :]
Yes some of the rings are need to replace… if you use better plier, rings stay good shape. You want to use small tool like: Gamakatsu P004 Micro Split Ring Pliers (1-Pack) a.co/d/dsMNlzX

awesome video and well done. very fun to watch you catch a lot of quality fish.
Love your videos, great quality, good fishing, and so scenic. I notice you use pricey rods. Do you have any recommendations

For rod: maybe like,
www.amazon.com/Sougayilang-Graphite-Lightweight-Spinning-Ultra-Sensitive/dp/B08Z3HV4LK/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3KZ6WQRQ23T5&keywords=BFS%2Bbait%2Brod&qid=1691528115&sprefix=bfs%2Bbait%2Brod%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-5&th=1
5.5 feet casting rod seems fine.

I personally like the Upper Sac best, reason of size of trout I have got ever.
Very nice, back to back bite. Have you fished Upper Kern or Upper Kings this year yet? It is still very high flow there.
Thank you always for good comment.
No I have not fished those this year yet. But upper Kings flow is getting dropped now. I think I will go soon to take a look. It may be fun… or nothing.
Nice video. I just came back from Upper Sacramento river yesterday. What size barbless hooks are you using for the 50s? size 6?
Thank you for your comment, how was Upper Sac?
Yes, I use #6 for PT50S usually. I use #8 sometime for small creeks.

By the way, do you change out your split rings too? I noticed that my split rings get weak after I replace the hooks and sometimes bend and come off.

This is in coquitlam right
Is that a real abu ambassadeur 2500c? Did you modify it?
Thank you for the comment, yes last half of the movie I used 2500C. I customized lots please see the movie details for more explanation.

Where is this pit river that I cant seem to find?
Hwy 299 east of Redding
