I have eaten these since I was a child....My mouth was watering the 'whole' time just thinking of my childhood and the joy this specialty gave me...I could only have one...every few days....NOW thanks to your recipe, I can have this as many times as lol needed....~~THANK YOU ~~
I just made this as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. Honestly, I hope she doesn't like it and I get to keep it because this is amazing.. I have to say, this is a great way to show someone you love them. It's a lot of elbow grease
It's a lot of sugar!
So...did she like it?
My grandmother made nougat every Christmas but just used cranberries and pistachios and macadamias. Her nougat recipe she got from a elderly Greek neighbour in Valencia… almost exactly like this!!!
I remember having this at Christmas time when I was a child! I loved it, we could only have 1piece each and I would dream about it till next year. Thank you for sharing this simple recipe with us all!
Yes it is heavenly
Yes, I remembered this as a Christmas treat too as a child! It was always a special treat! The ones that our mom made had candied fruit and nuts in it.
I LOVE nougat, or torrone, or whatever you want to call it. I lived in the Middle East for a few years, and all the candy and nut stores sold variations of this wonderful confection. I always had a supply of torrone in my bag. Sometimes I would get torrone layered with apricot fruit leather, covered in dried rose petals, coated with chopped nuts, and so much more.
I have years ago bought nougat in Montelimar aling the S French coast. I too love torrone but its best to pay a bit more in the panaderia ir pastelería and eat more slowly than to buy from the supermarkets. I love the idea if the rose petals.
They all sound wonderful👌♥️
That sounds heavenly!
I'm going to keep this image of these treats you have described in my head for a long time. They are completely unfamiliar to me and I will probably never have them in my lifetime--this torrone/nougat, and apricot fruit leather! rose petals as food!--but they just sound so perfectly lovely, even more so that you had them all together at the same time. :)
Here's a shoutout to all the moms, grandmothers, great grandmothers ect that worked their ass off to cook meals and provide desserts and candies, around the holidays and year round.
💖
and here's a shoutout to all the dads, grandfathers, and great grandfathers that never get the recognition they deserve because they're not female.
seriously. my mom abandoned us when i was a baby. my dad did all the cooking. stop crediting only women and ignoring men all the fucking time, it makes me sick.
@@miserableexistence2918 I think it's great that your dad took over the cooking. Kudos to your dad for doing what had to be done!
@@miserableexistence2918 my father too did most of the cooking, my mom cooked to. But my Dad did all the holiday baking. I know as a father do 75% of the cooking. I agree, kudos to Parents, Grandparents, Great Grandparents!
@@miserableexistence2918 it's because this role is generally filled by women and there is generally a social expectation that women are the one's who are _supposed_ to do it (cooking an entire meal sometimes alone, cleaning up after, etc.) and that social expectation doesn't really exist for men in a lot of cultures. Like they may step in and do it and they _should_ be appreciated for that but the general expectation is for women to cook and clean and serve their husband and children and to take care of themselves last, and they are rarely recognized or rewarded for it in a meaningful way, and often treated poorly or shamed if they don't. It isn't always a choice because they are raised to do that and shamed for not doing it, whether or not another parent is present. Often the work it takes for Christmas to run smoothly is taken for granted by their husbands and children, who can just enjoy festivities. Even female children are expected to step-up and do housework or cooking around this time of year while their male siblings often don't. Men get appreciated all the time in the gender roles they are expected to and generally perform (in the workplace, they are literally paid more than their female coworkers), most historical figures who's work and accomplishments are focused on and appreciated are men, etc. But housework and historically 'female/feminine labour' is not appreciated despite how much hard work it is, specifically _because_ it's work women are expected to do and work women mostly do . Hence the need for comments like the one above.
Your dad may have had to do all of those things and that should 100% be appreciated but that generally isn't the norm and most dad's are not primarily responsible for the intense amounts of cooking and housework that happen over the holiday, nor are they socially pressured into doing it. They either do it because they want to or more rarely _have_ to because the other parent is present. Whereas women face that pressure and burden almost all the time regardless of the situation, and are more likely you be shamed for not doing it. Hence the need for them specifically to be appreciated for it. All in all I agree that it's probably better to just say 'shootout to all the *people* who cook over the holidays' as that's more inclusive. I just thought I'd explain that statement like the one above are not just women getting praised simply 'because they're female'. There's contextual reasons why.
We Italians eat this (we call it Torrone) every year for Christmas along with Panforte di Siena and Panettone.
I always buy this nougat. Very interesting when one can make it at home. Lovely watching your method. God bless you for sharing. 🙏
A family prepared a very similar treat for me while I was stationed in Italy. Now that I'm aware of how long it takes to prepare, I am even more grateful of this wonderful treat. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
I haven't had this since my gramma used to have it every Christmas! She got it from our neighbor. A million thank yous!
Showing us the texture of the finished product was especially helpful. Thank you! I can’t wait to try making this.
Did you actually make it? I would not be able to pull that off especially with the stirring for 45 minutes!
This is an Indian sweet called Soan papdi
Just order it

Oh thanks
This looks almost like soan papdi
@@DethroneYT 😊yes bro....
Made this today, mine came out a little darker, maybe the second heating after the egg white was a bit long so a bit a chewy but excellent flavor. Will definitely make this again with the same recipe.
You cooked the sugar honey mixture too long.
Jesus! you stirred that thing for 45 minutes. "I'm Too Old For That S*hit"
I was hooked until I read that I had to stir constantly for 45 minutes. It does look delicious though.
just stir while watching a movie.
@@MichiySqueaks Brilliant idea!!
@Kim Smith And 8 seconds before that with nuts… That’s a workout.
YES ME TOO, so disappointed!!
Just like making caramel. "Good things come to those who wait."
You are an excellent instructor! I followed your directions and my torrone came out perfect on the first try. Thank you very much!
I remember having these when I was younger. I was hooked by the video. Cooking time notwithstanding, I dove head first into toasting the cashews, almonds and pistachios I had at home. Thereafter it was all downhill. The entire cooking time was well spent with some other entertainment going on alongside. But the final product turned out to be one of the hardest materials known to man. ;-P
I have ordered some Nougat from Amazon. Waiting eagerly for the delivery now.
My Grandma, Rita, loved this! We always had for the holidays. Love the simple recipe. I think I’ll make for Christmas gifts...🥰
😯😳😬
My fondest memory of grandma and I having a piece of her special pistachio candy! Thanks for your recipe.
Remember to point out you had to stir for 75 minutes total, and they'll be extra delicious.
I love the relaxing music and the sounds of the preparation. Now if I could only do a taste test - yummy!
Q delícia. Amo torrone, nunca imaginei q é feito assim. Parece q ficaram deliciosos e perfeitos. Parabéns!👏👏👏❤❤🥰😋😋😋😋
I live alone in a new senior apt and want to bake treats I can take to my clubs and classes. These will be great. Thanks.
Last year I made a ton of nougat for Christmas. It was a lot of work, Kudos to you for your lovely tutorial! When I did it, I made this without the stirring for 45 min, but you added the hot mix sugar mix to the other mix and sir fast. I used traditional french recipes. I think there are a number of way to do this, thanks for sharing yours with us!!
I am curious about the differences. I have never tried making this, or any other variety, before.
I would love your receipt haha don't wanna stir for 45 min
Had this as a child. It's called Turron in Spanish and very popular during the holidays. Gotta watch out for your dentures and fillings ... THIS is sooo good. Thanks for the step by steps on making this.
Nougat de Montélimar, France 😉
Torrone in Italy 😊
This is one of my husbands favorite Spanish treats! His mom used to buy it for the family every year. Thanks! It looks like a lot of work!
It does, but it really isn’t any harder than making fudge. Just sharing…
Does it stick to your teeth at all? It seems like sticking is an issue in the video.
@@AO-nr7kl Well, it'd stick as much as marshmallow sticks to your mouth I guess.
In its case, you have to cut the marshmallow with a knife that's been liberally coated with corn starch, or powdered sugar (which is sold with added corn starch as well, otherwise it'd clump up). Marshmallow in it's uncoated form sticks to everything, but no such thing happens in your mouth because it's coated with our… mucus.
It is not spanish.
@@machiavellianos well his mother was from Spain and she said it was!

Italian torrone! We got these (with only almonds) every year for Christmas. They came in beautifully decorated little individual boxes, wrapped in foil. I used to peel off the wafer until I realized it was edible!

Very clear demonstration of the steps. Thank you. However, far from "quick" with 30, then 45 minutes of stirring on the stove. True dedication! Hats off to you. The texture looks perfect. I won't complain about the price they charge for nougat anymore 😉
BTW, loved the music 💗
One of my favorite candies! In the USA the Brach's nougat candy with colorful dried fruit is similar as is the Big Hunk candy bar (with tiny nut bits).
All of it will plug you up something fierce if you eat too much.

Thank you so much for giving the measurements in metric as well as cups. I’m definitely going to try this recipe. My mum loves nougat. 😊
Nougat is a term that indicates many types of sweets, this is because it is a dessert of pre-Roman tradition.
Since it can be sticky, at least in Italy, there is torrone (nougat) ostiato, that is, it has an upper and lower layer made with the wafers that do not affect the flavor but avoid getting dirty.
Stir for 45 min 🤣
I bet she does 😈
we had Torrrone every year at the big family Christmas party at my Italian grandparents house. They came in little blue boxes!
How beautiful! One of those special treats worth the extra time and effort. Looks delicious.
I just tried making it. It is now cooling for the next 6 hours. Fingers crossed that it worked! I'd love to be able to include a few pieces in the treat tins i'm handing out. Also if i develop a repetitive strain injury, it'll be from all that stirring. :P haha! Thanks for the simple to follow recipe and instructions.

Thanks for showing how to make this type of turrón/guirlache! It is one of my favorites along with "turrón de Alicante"! You showed "el punto" to determine when to remove the mixture after incorporating and cooking the egg whites. How do you determine when to remove the honey/sugar mixture from the heat, ie. what indication you use or at what temperature in a candy thermometer? Felicidades!
Cook for 30 minutes stirring constantly.
I have often wondered how nougat was made! You and TH-cam are a wonderful combination, thank you both :) XX
Looks really nutty and delicious. Packed with healthy foods... Thanks for sharing.
When I lived in Spain my Spanish neighbour taught me how to do this. It does take a while but is worth the effort. She called it Turron de Almendra using just almonds from her trees in the village.
You had me up until the cooking whilst stirring for 45 minutes. I then went to the shop.
Heating honey to this temp destroys ALL the health benefits of the honey. May as well just use all nasty white bleached sugar.
@@lalaisis5126 Sugar and honey is terrible for you.
@@lalaisis5126 The honey is for flavor and texture. There's loads of candys that use honey in a way that brings it's temperature up this much. Honeycomb candy is one of my favorites. It's not being included to pander to health nuts.

The man with the turban who pops up at Christmas markets around my country sells this, but his is so hard he can't cut it, so he chops it with a cleaver instead. Taking the whole rock and trying to chisel off a small enough bit to fit in your mouth with your teeth, while also trying to not glue your hands to one another or to your face is definitely an experience
Yes, the so called Turkish delight is notoriously hard and one has to be careful not to break their teeth. The real nougat on the other hand should have a more powdery structure than what is presented here and is cute extremely easily. I think the candy from the video is something in between cutable when enough force is applied, but nonetheless rather chewy and something you shouldn't simply bite into.
Did you not see her sawing through it for so long they had to edit the footage and cut to the end of her cutting because it took so long? This recipe isn't soft either lol
If it’s like the candy Big Hunk, throwing it in microwave for a few seconds softens it right up

As a kid I made this with my Grandma. We always added a bit of dried chopped fruits from her fruitcakes. Yum I can taste the maraschino cherries now! 🍒😋🤤

Rich with lots of different type of nuts. So far so good.
One thing though*: you should cook the honey/sugar base more thoroughly to get rid of water. To much water in the end product will turn the freshly baked nuts into sponges. That's not a pleasant experience.
Furthermore, you really need to add some of the crystalline sugar to the egg whites when whipping them. So they do not flock. You will get a more homogeneous mass. In turn it will give a better mixture later on.
You can whip up the egg whites with a table spoon of sugar and when done you will put the machine on low so you can slowly poor in the hot sugar/honey. Keep whipping.
After all is mixed you can add the roasted nut mix. Then poor into a bowl as seen in the video.
