I just made it and I think I should say it. I thought I will be able to do it in like 15min since the video was very neat and simple but it wasn't the reality. The whole cooking process will take atleast 1 hour (30min for melting the sugar, 30min for mixing with egg white). And you should really cook it on low heat or it will gradually turn darker and darker and get burned. Also be patient stiring occasionally.
Thanks, I was wondering how long it takes for many recipes as cooking gas is often scarce I rarely cook more than 30 minutes so I'm worried of using my gas and very rural so I can't find close by at time. But I have almond trees so I'm keeping this idea.
@@benthompson2205 it was kinda nice, good thing is you can decide the hardness/softness of the candy by varying cooking time to fit it in to your personal taste. I'm making it again rn wish me luck. But I'm also adding dried kiwi and banana to add flavour and colour.

This looks like the candy called Tarrone that we used to get in my Italian American family only at Christmas. The Tarrone had some sort of extremely thin, almost transparent, “paper” over it: it had a “wafer”-like quality to it, and slightly crunched when you bit into it. Thank you for this lovely recipe. We call it Mandulat in Dalmatia, Croatia. The name is probably from the word mandorle, which means almonds in english. My late grandma used ti buy it for me, and I felt a bit special :) because my gran was a bit eccentric and this dessert was not that common in our country then ❤️

@@c.wilson-brown9336 I failed twice too. The first time, I over-beat the egg whites into droopy glossy peaks. Second time, I did beat them to good stiff peaks, but over mixed them into the sugar syrup. To make it turn out right: after whipping the whites into stiff peaks, I gently folded the whites into the syrup without knocking out all the air in the whites. And when returning to the stove to cook, I mixed evenly, not vigorously, but not too slowly, and scraped down the sides. If stirred too slow, the egg whites get cooked into egg bits. Too fast, it turns into a thick sticky liquid. Hope this helps:) Cheers

I didn't know that the outer part were just sugar, honey and egg preparation... I thought it would be made by some ingredients that i never heard in my life before 😅😅
I think this is the greatest thing about traditional recipes, you learn that eggs, sugar, butter, milk or cream, flour - are the basis of all the best sweet treats. All the other crap that's listed in the ingredients on packaging just shows that store bought food is basically poison.
After it set you can also dip it into chocolate and then let it cool for few minutes or just serve as it is and use chocolate hazelnut spread as a dip. ♥️😋

Eu já conhecia a receita e não sei se o pessoal ai cozinha, mas não fica duro e as amêndoas não são tá caras quanto as castanhas do Pará por exemplo, aqui eu pago R$ 7 em 200g e olha que estou em SP. O torrone nacional, com amendoim é mais macio devido ao uso de xarope de glucose (xarope de milho) que é ótimo para problemas cardíacos e desenvolver resistência à insulina natural. Caso o seu Nougat fique muito duro (isso provavelmente devido ao mel não ser orgânico) dobre a clara da próxima vez que fizer ou mude o mel!🐝

Hello Flor, I am not too sure if it will work with Monfruit or artificial sugar, sugar is used to provide the binding function so not too sure about artificial sugar if they can do the same
Leave out the honey, use powdered sugar instead of granulated, and add a touch of vanilla. In Texas we also use pecans instead of almonds and call it divinity.

Never knew the name for so long. Back then, we as children used to call it "white sweet". It was our favourite.

yes its great with fruit (like cranberries) and also pistacchios and hazelnuts etc. regarding the kids..melted sugar is incredibly hot, so careful.

Every year as a child my beloved grandparents would get this candy for us at the San Genarro Feast in Hoboken NJ. I recall a thin wafer on the outsides of this block of candy. Yum!!!! Such wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing.

@thecelesten, can probably explain us why the mayority of our nougat failed?? As I read the comments, the most of our nougat was a flop!!! Can u please share your xperience?
@@c.wilson-brown9336 I failed twice too. The first time, I over-beat the egg whites into droopy glossy peaks. Second time, I did beat them to good stiff peaks, but over mixed them into the sugar syrup.
To make it turn out right: after whipping the whites into stiff peaks, I gently folded the whites into the syrup without knocking out all the air in the whites. And when returning to the stove to cook, I mixed evenly, not vigorously, but not too slowly, and scraped down the sides. If stirred too slow, the egg whites get cooked into egg bits. Too fast, it turns into a thick sticky liquid. Hope this helps:) Cheers

it depends on the industrial recipe, there is nougat that contains gelatin and is softer

I think this is the greatest thing about traditional recipes, you learn that eggs, sugar, butter, milk or cream, flour - are the basis of all the best sweet treats. All the other crap that's listed in the ingredients on packaging just shows that store bought food is basically poison.

After it set you can also dip it into chocolate and then let it cool for few minutes or just serve as it is and use chocolate hazelnut spread as a dip. ♥️😋

Torrone não é duro assim não. Torrone é macio.
Torrone aqui no brasil usa um nougat mais maleável, e amendoim, no vídeo a pessoa está usando amêndoas (que são uma delícia, mas caro pra dedéu :v)
Exatamente! Eu já conhecia a receita e não sei se o pessoal ai cozinha, mas não fica duro e as amêndoas não são tá caras quanto as castanhas do Pará por exemplo, aqui eu pago R$ 7 em 200g e olha que estou em SP. O torrone nacional, com amendoim é mais macio devido ao uso de xarope de glucose (xarope de milho) que é ótimo para problemas cardíacos e desenvolver resistência à insulina natural. Caso o seu Nougat fique muito duro (isso provavelmente devido ao mel não ser orgânico) dobre a clara da próxima vez que fizer ou mude o mel!🐝

Hello Flor, I am not too sure if it will work with Monfruit or artificial sugar, sugar is used to provide the binding function so not too sure about artificial sugar if they can do the same

Leave out the honey, use powdered sugar instead of granulated, and add a touch of vanilla. In Texas we also use pecans instead of almonds and call it divinity.
