  • Vic from Base Leg Aviation shows how to install Skybolt fasteners.
    Tools used:
    MSC Industrial:
    Cogsdill tool (MSC 0575506) deburring bit
    blade (MSC 05756234)
    A/C Spruce:
    100 degree countersink AT455P-4
    cage for countersink 12-01591
    Boelube solid or liquid
    AACQ rivets or AN426 4-3 rivets (as appropriate)

    Thanks useful. I’m about to do the same on my cowling. I got the flanges for my -8 so a little easier.

    The old ones required a spring/roll pin to lock the socket position. I don't like the pin so have used a loop of safety wire. The pull pin seems an improvement.

    Didn't you damage the tailboom with the first step drill there - made a dimple in the skin? How would you address a damage like that?
    Aren't cherry rivets 120 degrees countersunk?

    It appears as though you have edge distance issues with the top hole. Unless it’s just the camera angle

    Vic, what model or part number Skybolt fastener did you use? I have Milspec and they went out of business and need a replacement fastener for one that is failing.

      Hmmm. Not certain I remember. They have a catalog online that I used. Pretty straight forward.
