Ruhi Cenet is in Nauru, the least visited country in the world. Located in the middle of the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean and appearing just as a tiny dot on the map, it’s the smallest independent republic. Nauru is the most inaccessible country. Hardly 200 people make their way to this country each year. This is the least visited country in the world, even the closest countries are thousands of kilometers away from here.
Until recently, the locals on this isolated island had so much wealth that they didn't even know what to do with it. Once rich in phosphate deposits in 1975, Nauru became the country with the highest GDP per capita in the World.
Today, however, in these destroyed lands where no fruits and vegetables can grow, processed and fatty foods have become the norm. Nauru is recognized by the World Obesity Federation as the world's most obese country, with around 60% of its citizens are obese. The World Health Organisation also reports that Nauru has the highest cigarette consumption rate in the world.

they never had a plan for after phosphate , they should have had those ships going there full of soil s to unload and fill up the space left by mining . But they did nothing , they could still today flatten the area with explosives and machines but for some reason they keep it like that , they could easily set up hydroponically grown produce . the island is on the equator it gets so much sun
Because it was exploited. Those countries/companies that came in got what they wanted, dangling a few temporary shiny things to the locals and left.

@user-mg2ip8cr8z you have a point. The one's responsible for their funds mismanaged it plus the corruption however its hard to overlook the damage to the environment- no plan in place thereafter and the way it was abandoned after the companies got what they wanted.
@@britjj5126 I don't really know if it is the companies that are responsible for that , the Nauru government was responsible for the contract to extract the phosphates if they entered into an agreement that had no clean up after the fact stipulation then that's on them .Today those companies are out of the issue and Nauru has done basically nothing ,they have not used explosives and land moving machines to flatten that area . We know this is possible because they did clear as mall area to build that over Ausie stayers prison . They don't seem to mind leaving it like that

You should check out the island of Rota in the Northern Marianas where I have lived for over 12 years. We are very close to Guam and we are known as The Friendliest Island in the World and and the Treasure Island of the Marianas.
How does one choose such a place to live? Sounds lovely.

Just look at Japan. Fruits are really expensive there, because importing them is expensive.
Most likely the people of Nauru couldn't afford to buy them at the prices necessary to cover import and shipping costs.

Sadly it was Australias government that did this, and if it just made the local population rich, fine, but they didn’t bother to try to mitigate any of the damage they were doing.

To put into context - one watermelon can buy the same amount of basic food a family of 3 can survive on for 3 days in Australia. The worst parti s - that land is perfectly climatised to grow watermelon 3 times that size, My question is - In Austrlaia cigarettes are taxes to about $50 in some parts thats why a lot of Australians quit. How much are they in Nairu

Jared Diamond wrote a book called " Collapse " describing how various societies overused their resources and collapsed. A number of these were island societies where environmental degradation can easily result in making the place uninhabitable. If it weren't for Australia propping up this place, there would likely be nobody living there anymore. We are all in danger of overexploiting our resources, but islands more so.

If the people care they can fix that island. Start composting, get a green space going, the birds will come..poop everywhere and the nuture the green space. There is no reason for not growing produce on that island, if people can grow veggies in the arctic circle they can grow easily in the tropics.

They can't grow any food on the land, and the ocean ecosystem there is essentially a desert. There's actually very little life - it's not like a nice cloudy, muddy estuary which can be very productive. When you see clear, tropical water and exotic fish, keep in mind you're looking at a very delicate desert with sparse, if pretty, sea life.

This Bruno Loyale, I took my tent circus to Nauru twice. Stopped by Ocean island on the way from Tarawa once also. Was there when the first refugees arrived and did free shows for them inside the camps. Great Chinese food there....life is what you make it.....Nauru is special. Too many negative comments about this little island that has been through a lot. It's a nice place with friendly people.
