The issue is that Cola is more accessible than water and at a cheaper price. The companies donated wells and rain collectors but its not enough. Nothing has changed
dude everything is addictive... have you never heard the term 'moderation is key' it's up to you to keep yourself in check and make sure to not take an excess amount of what ever it is you like. anything can be bad for you if you have too much. spread the awareness to the Mexican people not everywhere else... no one is forcing them to drink it...
As a American, I love the occasional coke. But I don't fully understand the obsession going on in that specific province. It's my favorite soda and all, but that's so sad that it's apparently cheaper then fuckin water there. Crazy unhealthy..
@@patogordo1385 here in my country coca cola as buy every competition. since juice companies to water companies... so if you dont drink coca cola you still giving money to them...
It’s very sad how soda is more accessible than water. One time in Mexico I saw a woman giving her baby coke, and a bunch of children followed us because we were carrying a water bottle…very heartbreaking
You should look into what the Nestle corporation does to people's water supplies. It's insane that it's legal and they are allowed to get away with it.
They weren't following you around because of your water bottles, smh, they was plotting trying to rob yo ass, get something out of you somehow, so ignorant &cute to think it was the water😂
When I went to Mexico, my grandfather said that Coke was buying water sources and that it was complicated to get water to some areas. This stuff is real.
I used to be a daily coke drinker and mtn dew. I completely stopped drinking both 3 months ago and also been watching what I'm eating and I've lost almost 20 pounds. Its extremely hard to quit but after the first week of no soda, i felt amazing.
Years ago on the national geographic documentary they showed that babies couldn't even drink formula milk due to the water crisis and would have to drink coke instead. I can't even imagine the long term effects of that, it broke my heart💔 This is a very serious problem. Thank you for bringing awareness to this Tyler🙏
I am from brazil and I was a baby who started drinking Coca Cola when I was only 3 months old. My parents gave it to me in a baby bottle every day when i was only a baby.. in Brazil, 30 years ago there was a belief that Coca Cola could prevent and treat diseases and that's why parents gave their children Coca Cola. Today I'm 35 years old, I have autoimmune diseases and digestive problems associated with the consumption of Coca Cola but I can't stop drinking it. Today coca cola is very expensive in Brazil, so we are forced to drink imitations of Coca Cola whose ingredients are even worse. This is a common reality in underdeveloped countries
@@laisalvarez9662 Damn. That's horrible, I'm so sorry to hear that you go through that as a result of the coca cola😞 I pray that you will be able to heal from those health issues one day 🙏❤️ hopefully there will be an end all of this in the future once enough awareness is created.
It’s the Coca Cola and Heineken’s that’s dehydrating Monterrey. They’re extracting over 90 billion liters from PUBLIC reservoirs. Mex President Manuel López Obrador asked to stop production and Heineken said no.. Why they don’t use militancy to enforce is BEYOND me. (money hungry)
It’s crazy because I quit drinking soda in late 2019 to to be a better role model for my kids. Since then, I’ve noticed a drastically significant increase in my health. My kids also know it’s not good for you and tend to opt for their cold water bottles. It was a good change on something I was super addicted to. If I can do it, I know anyone else can too.
I've been drinking 3-6 or more cokes a day for over 20 years. Just stopped cold turkey 3 weeks ago because I'm tired of feeling like shit all day. Already noticing a difference in how I feel. No going back now
When I was a child I used to drink insane amounts of soda. Then in middle school I quit cold turkey decided to start drinking sparkling water. Sparkling water on the shelves is nothing like homemade (using a soda stream). What I do is I get crangrape or any other juice and mix it with the sparkling water (at a ratio of like 1:4). Tastes like soda but actually healthier. I refused to drink soda entirely until like high school (bc school clubs only had soda to drink). Now I have it on occasion. It does help that I absolutely hate the taste of Coke and Pepsi, lol. I used to have Crush and Sprite mixed with juice.
I gave up drinking soda and juices entirely around 3/4 years ago. Although Coke wasn't my go-to soda . I've always been a Sprite guy. I'm 30 now so I decided to start early. I lost a good amount of weight and I don't miss it.
Unsolved? Only people who truly believe they are forced into putting something in their body, even though they literally PURCHASED it and consumed it with premeditative knowledge, would say this is "unsolved".
I remember the coke ads during Christmas back in the 60's and 70's. No one put the shrewd advertising idea together. Awesome share, Ang! Thanks for sharing your wonderful spirit of truth with us! Bless your beautiful soul!!! ❤

As someone whose second language is Spanish, I can't stand his accent in Spanish. I don't mean that in a mean way, it just reminds me of how I use to sound before I learned proper pronunciation and develop an accent. Again, no offense meant, he is being braver than I was my first time in Mexico!
As someone with so many family members with diabetes in Mexico. I’d have to say lack of education pertaining to nutrition, and poverty go hand in hand. My family also thought diabetes was just genetic. But telling family members to stop drinking coke seemed like an offense because it’s something we’re so accustomed to. From going to the closest mini market, the taco stand close by or a party. You’ll most likely see a stack of coke bottles. Even with the labels they have on all the packaging it’s hard to inform family how devastating it can be to their health in the long run. In general most foods we eat are heavy. There’s no balance with fruits or vegetables. My grandpa passed away from diabetes before I was born. My father is prediabetic. I used to be prediabetic and after getting rid of unhealthy food I’m not no longer at risk.

As a Mexican myself, I agree that Coke is EVERYWHERE. Every local grocery store has a Coca Cola sign, that's how they're located. If you enter any household and there's not at least one empty Coke bottle, then that means you gotta go buy one or else you won't have a drink for lunch time. The most popular 20L water jugs are from the same company as well, I myself buy them and also have an almost empty 2L coke bottle. It's common to reward hard working people with a big coke bottle so they can hydrate themselves
@@oskrdamaster I’m also a Mexican myself and no I’m not Mexican American or anything like that just full Mexican. I denied the offer and instead continued drinking the water I brought with me and people looked at me in a strange way. I was disappointed with my country but now with the new president we have I am proud of what he is doing. The current president is one of the best presidents we’ve had since President Benito Juarez.
My grandma used to help little villages in Mexico that are really hard to get to with Medecine and education etc… when she explained to me how much she struggled to get Medecine into the villages but like clock work once a week Coca-Cola arrived it really opened my eyes on cokes grip on Mexico.
@@osvaldovalencia6330 They may not be forcing them to drink it in a literal sense, but their entire strategy revolves around making other options significantly more difficult and less viable. This is also not even getting into the fact that they know their products are poison, and they pay large sums of money for "independent studies" to be conducted that show the contrary, either by manipulating statistics or just outright fraud and lies, in order to deceive the public into drinking their soda.
@@osvaldovalencia6330 did you ignore the part where the bottling plant is using over 1 million gallons of water a day? Taking away water sources from people and buying them up? I went to visit my husband’s country, Guatemala, and it’s the same issue. Babies drinking coke had me in shock! My girls are under 10ys old and were also shocked. My grandmother would be surprised in the amount of water they consumed. She questioned why they drank so much water. She complained that water didn’t have a good taste. @@foreverfly3113 that's why I said "US American" :) US Americans are known, at least among us Europeans, and unfortunately like most native English speakers, to be monolinguals, cause their language is the standard international language, so they normally have no need to learn another one. As an American, my question to you is; How do you all afford to drink that much Coca Cola every day. In America, Coca Cola is about $2.00 per bottle, depending where you live. Even if I wanted to drink that much, I simply could not afford it. Maybe in Mexico, it's a lot cheaper. No matter who is drinking it, it is NOT good for you and should not be used.

Coca cola's greed? No. It's your choice, people can choose to buy water instead of coke and coca-cola will benefit even more when people buying Ciel water instead of coke. It's cost even less to produce water bottle compare to coke. Also, blame your government as well, what are their actions? Instead of educating people about the bad side of Coke they Increase sugar tax, because more tax benefit the government while educating people cost real resource and money. I see people in video believe diabetes cause by anger in the family instead of the sugar in coke, and coke even take a role in their spiritual life, I can see either the government's effort to educate people failed or they don't even put any effort into that at all. And after the news of government instead of solving the root problem like wiping crime lord/cartel that cause harm to their lemon farmer all they can do is send police to protect the farmers. And that Alien thing few month ago, I have reason to doubt this government.
As a Mexican I can tell you that no, soda is not more accessible or cheap than water here. People have an addiction to coke because of the sugar. As simple as that.

Whenever I went to friends houses she always said never drink coke if it was offered to me. Most might be too young to remember, but in the states this used to be quite common. There were storefronts everywhere with black and white signs with the Coca-Cola logo on them. About 40-50 years ago or more it was normal.
Its not just Mexico but all of south america, when I vist my family down in Brazil they've all pretty much replaced water with coke. I did an experiment to tell people I don't drink coke and refues it everytime and see how many times I get offered it compared to water when I was down there for a week a year ago, I was offered coke like 30+ times and offered water like 3 times despite how much I kept saying I only wanted water, its crazy man.
Es la palabra clave. Adictivo. Y barato. Ahí es donde me pregunto, mejor dicho me contesto. Nos quieren muertos a corta edad. Eres productivo, tienes diabetes, no eres candidato a una pensión.
People should call out organizations for putting essentially poison into their products eg red 40, seed oils, etc to name a few. they put all these ingredients that are terrible for your body in and then label them as “healthy” when they definitely aren’t, and that goes for nearly every product you see out there and is probably a leading factor in why there’s diabetes everywhere. And just as you mentioned, exercise is only a small factor and diet lays a bigger role in causing diabetes
Everything has some poison, hell technically almonds have cyanide, just because something can be or cause some kind of adverse effects means that you should fear it, as everything in life the answer is moderation and quantities
Or take accountability for your health and don’t become addicted to junk. Smoking is poison. Alcohol is poison. Fast food addiction is poison. Now they want to eat fake meat and even bugs.

@@Tracy-wr7mj Acording to WHO and various studies drinking diet coke/coke zero doesn't change much (all groups had similar sugar levels in blood), if anything, however drinking on a scale this big would be a better idea? I've also heard that drinking diet coke actually is worse than drinking normal one due to sweeteners, because your body still thinks that you are consuming sugar, resulting in insullin resistance (I cannot really remember the source, and I've heard it a while ago, so take that with a grain of salt, also also - the papers mentioned in first paragraph and second paragraph assume that you are drinking coke in normal amounts)
One thing not mentioned in the video was that Vincent Fox was not only the president of Mexico he was also president of CocaCola Mexico in the 70s and later of latin America. Fox expanded Coca-Cola's market share in Mexico through marketing strategies, improving distribution networks, and establishing a strong presence in rural areas of Mexico. Thus coca cola overtook Pepsi, and soda consumption increased, and is the reason why so much cola is drunken in SA today, and especially Mexico.
This is brilliant. We, as mexicans, never realize how embedded in our culture coca-cola is, until we see it from an outsider's perspective. It is crazy. Kudos to Tyler. This might be one of his best videos
I’m from Mexico, and here we have “abarrotes” “Tienda de abarrotes”, which are family owned, they sign a contract, usually with Coca-Cola, Sabritas (Frito-Lay) or PepsiCo and those companies give those family owned stores posters, LED signs, refrigerators, merchandise, and that’s why in Mexico you can see many stores who look like Coca-Cola dispensaries but are in fact miscellaneous stores with fruits, meats, grains and other stuff which you can buy in stores
It’s the same in any country. Here in the US is the same. The coke refrigerators or signs are own by coke no the stores. I would say what’s killing the people is there ignorance of not even wanting to investigate further what causes there diabetes
@@rond1475yea but it’s still a separate store. like you go into a costco and you know it’s a costco because they have their own branding. if you go to some of these other countries that are not as well off, half the time u don’t even know what the store you are walking into is about, because it’s filled with branding from a large corporation.
Growing up mexican never realized how unhealthy a lot of the food and sugary drinks were as a kid. Its insane to believe this is just a daily consumption nothing out of the ordinary in the mexican culture.
My grandmother came to the US from Mexico in 2017. And she was always obsessed with cola even when her health was depleting, she would still only want to drink Coca Cola. We obviously wouldn’t let her have it but behind our backs she would always manage to find and drink some. She passed in 2021 from her struggles with diabetes. It’s crazy how huge companies like Coca Cola see the effects that are happening but they still proceed to make their products work for our healths, because of selfishness.
Thank you, Tyler, for covering this topic as a Mexican myself. i can definitely relate to this big time! To add, I am also Elementary Physical Education teacher and man. I cover the topic of sugar in great detail. It is very important that my students understand the importance of living a healthy and physically active lifestyle. I talk a lot about moderation because I believe no one food is bad for anyone, but again, moderation is key. I will say one thing you might have missed is that in some parts of Mexico, towns might not have a purification system, and the water might not be safe to drink. Which in turn causes the people to buy coke because it is typically cheaper. I won't blame coke alone, but I will say they definitely factor with diabetes in Mexico for sure! Another factor is diet man Mexicans love our tortas, tacos, tamales etc. These foods taste amazing, but they are cooked in lard , butter, high fat oils, etc. Another key factor is education. Some of the poorer Mexicans might not have enough money for good education, which in turn hurts them with understanding the fundamentals of healthy eating. Trust me, as a fat kid, I used to drink 8 cans of Dr. Pepper a day! However, when I saw my grandfather lose his leg up to the knee and my doctor telling me I might get diabetes if I didn't stop drinking soda, man, that was enough for me! I will say their is a possible solution. COKE ZERO!! It has zero sugar and zero calories. Coke zero is 95% water, yes! Before anyone on here says, " But what about the chemicals or artificial sweeteners?" Well, guys, we have many human randomized control trials stating that coke Zero doesn't spike insulin nor that it has negative effects on humans. Literally, we would have to drink 168 cans of coke Zero in a day to actually have minimal negative health effects. I will cite Layne Norton PH.D in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Illinois.
Something in the Zero sodas makes my guts hurt bad idk why. When mtn dew zero came out i tried switching bht man diet dew is so much better tasting and again the sickness from Zero
This information is not accurate. First of all because of allergies there are problems when you say that "no one food is bad for anyone" Second would be diseases that prevent them from eating solid food or religion that prevents them from eating aswell. There are 3 types of natural types of sugar and more than 320+ chemical replacements. Your research is short term and based on free samples with revieuws. There was no screening, no real diagnosis, and no investigation on long term whatsoever. And also nothing on side effects like damage to the liver. Your liver needs to work 3.5 hours to digest a single glass of coke, You will literally die from drinking that much coke. And 168 cans of coke would be around 56 liter. If you drink 56 liter of WATER in a day you will also die, it's terrible advice. If you want to teach your students about health and food then just say that they need to have alot of variation. As far as food debates and studies go they are endless and nothing is a certain fact unless we are talking about the varation in your diet. So again, drinking the same thing the whole day is not good. Besides all this there are literally videos about scientists that claim that something is safe to drink but then refuse to drink it themselves and say to the reporter who is offering the beverage that they are "not idiots" There are whole scandals about this and the Flint case clearly showed us that these companies MUST produce positive scientific results for the stockholders and refuse to post anything negative. Now how much is Coca Cola invested in the stock market? I rest my case.
@@888young2 How about you learn that some people have a hard time giving up coke because it's addicting you know. To add some of these people are not made of money . Their diet reflects that clearly. Unhealthy cheap food is better for people who are not financially stable.

Please do a video on how corrupt the homeless shelters are In New York, you can enter with no problem, record everything, you'll be giving a voice to thousands of people struggling who don't have nothing not even a voice and are stuck in "jail", they collect trillions in taxes, feed the homeless fake meat and cardboard bread, but gov have no problem creating genocide and creatibg black holes
I love this video too because it shows the actual humanity in Mexico.
Our news always talks about the worst of the worst with cartels and all that other stuff. Meanwhile, Mexico is also full of real genuine, struggling people. Something some people tend to over look.
Im so glad my parents only let me drink soda on special occasions. We only had fruit juice once a week. And we only ate my mums cooking unless there was a special occasion - only then would we have dominos or kfc.
Super extraño porque en Ecuador en el Menú de todos los días casi siempre va un jugo de frutas o avena. Mis amigos extranjeros me decían que eso les parecía muy extraño. Porque en otros países toman refrescos.😮😮

tyler can be a little forward and doesnt go in a crazy amount of depth, but these videos are really important to informing people about different issues around the world. mad respect for conducting anthropology for genz
Nowadays almost every telenovela has coca cola bottles strategically placed on tables, at meal times or whatever. It is ridiculous.
Things like this make it hard not to think we are in a simulation. This is beyond surreal
It's literally a controlled environment.. living off grid is the only answer
No es surrealismo, es ignorancia y de eso se aprovechan
Don't be paranoid. People have to take responsibility for their health, ignorance is a danger but city dwellers are no strangers to the internet, they should inform themselves instead of watching TikTok.
It's literally the Brawndo thing from "Idiocracy"
@@jaumegarcialCorrect answer 😊
I appreciate you absolutely grinding out these videos. You are doing great work Tyler!
Most might be too young to remember, but in the states this used to be quite common. There were storefronts everywhere with black and white signs with the Coca-Cola logo on them. About 40-50 years ago or more it was normal.
because it was just about the only soda avaiable.

Incredibly sad and interesting and informative .Well done!
The Salvadorans and Hondurans I know prefer to drink water or juice
Which is weird cuz my husband is Mexican and loves coke and beer lol
@@breechan671 I'd say to becareful about certain juices tho, a lot of them have the same amount or more than the amount of sugar then coke
Yes in Mexico I couldn’t get a water and it’s true Coca Cola controls South America how they did
To be honest Mexican before coke we have a lot of sweets we like candy a lot of candy in Mexico so it’s easy to see how they to over
The glass bottle coke you get in Mexico is so much better than the standard one in the can in the US. Seems even more addictive honestly.
Es la palabra clave. Adictivo.
Y barato. Ahí es donde me pregunto, mejor dicho me contesto. Nos quieren muertos a corta edad. Eres productivo, tienes diabetes, no eres candidato a una pensión.
Si es muy delisiosa 😢
Use real sugar
You can also get the Mexican Cokes in certain places in the U.S. agreed, so much better.
We have the glass bottles of the Mexican Coke in several stores where I'm at they cost a little more, but worth it.
I remember when red 40 was illegal. One day they claimed it was perfectly safe and brought it back.
@@bob733333 yeah its messed up
Everything has some poison, hell technically almonds have cyanide, just because something can be or cause some kind of adverse effects means that you should fear it, as everything in life the answer is moderation and quantities
Or take accountability for your health and don’t become addicted to junk. Smoking is poison. Alcohol is poison. Fast food addiction is poison. Now they want to eat fake meat and even bugs.
It’s not just red 40. Any synthetic dye is bad for you
I just came back from Mexico and can confirm this is true. Nosotros los Mexicanos somos bien Mexicanos 💪🇲🇽
I'm from México city and I was SHOCKED by how much coke they drink over there, it's kind of embarassing that quite a few people believe Coke doesn't give them diabetes
en eso tienes razon, indignante que en esos lugares es mas probable que te de diabetes por un susto que por beber medio galon diario de coca cola
En la ciudad de México también beben bastantes refrescos. No sólo coca-cola.

I moved to mexico when I was 11 years old and that's the first thing I noticed that the coca cola addiction is insane I personally don't drink it and people think I'm weird for it.
Im sorry but i can feel coke ruining my teeth
What about diet?..diet coke or coke zero..

Wow. It be your own, don't it? How wealthy did he get selling poison to his people?
This is brilliant. We, as mexicans, never realize how embedded in our culture coca-cola is, until we see it from an outsider's perspective. It is crazy. Kudos to Tyler. This might be one of his best videos
Excelente reportaje. En todos los lugares se consume. Pero en México es demasiado su consumo. Sorprendente.
It's not much different in the US . Companies pay for the space in supermarkets and will also provide refrigerators and freezers .
It works the same all around the world. Rival companies even prohibit using their fridge for the others' beverages.
@@rond1475yea but it’s still a separate store. like you go into a costco and you know it’s a costco because they have their own branding. if you go to some of these other countries that are not as well off, half the time u don’t even know what the store you are walking into is about, because it’s filled with branding from a large corporation.
Most of them only have soda and chips. Maybe a couple of old lemons but that's it.
Excelente investigacion!
Gracias!
Thank you for shining a light on this issue. Diabetes is a problem in my family
Growing up mexican never realized how unhealthy a lot of the food and sugary drinks were as a kid. Its insane to believe this is just a daily consumption nothing out of the ordinary in the mexican culture.
Promote and kill ain’t that right Mexico?
Me encantan todos tus videos, Tyler 💖 Muchas gracias por siempre intentar de dar la mejor calidad en información en tus videos 🥰💖
This scarily reminds me of the "Brawndo" beverage in the movie, "Idiocracy." Absolutely scary!
I visited Nicaragua in 2016 and yes, coke is a lot cheaper than water (especially when you return the bottle)
Yes exactly the reason I absolutely DEPISE coca-cola
The dink also tastes super generic
I can fight my coca addiction, the easiest way to fight it is by making them work for it, I broke my cycle when I took chemistry and biology classes
How can you blame a company for making money no one forces people to drink it how about blaming yourself or the people doing it themselves😂
Rip grandma but how is it the companys fault
@@sonofaurora666id blame them for establishing a coke factory right where the towns main source of water is. Really messed up.
Este programa es muy educativo thAnx
You know it wouldn't hurt you if you just ate natural healthy food. Why do you need to drink coke zero? Just stop
@@888young2 water purification issues. He said that.
Something in the Zero sodas makes my guts hurt bad idk why.
When mtn dew zero came out i tried switching bht man diet dew is so much better tasting and again the sickness from Zero
This information is not accurate.
First of all because of allergies there are problems when you say that "no one food is bad for anyone"
Second would be diseases that prevent them from eating solid food or religion that prevents them from eating aswell.
Besides all this there are literally videos about scientists that claim that something is safe to drink but then refuse to drink it themselves and say to the reporter who is offering the beverage that they are "not idiots" There are whole scandals about this and the Flint case clearly showed us that these companies MUST produce positive scientific results for the stockholders
and refuse to post anything negative.

Mexican here. It’s funny, for any soft drink, we say “una coca” even if it’s not actually a Coke. I didn’t know it was solely a Mexican thing whereas other countries in Latin America they say “una gaseosa” for soft drinks. It’s very subtle, but I never noticed how it has even impacted our daily vocabulary.

Finally someone is shedding light on the Mexican coke problem. It's straight up evil.
It's insane. That guy explaining that the Coke company I'll approach poor people up in the mountains & give them product to sell is wild. Very exploitative :(
@ 15:30 You have your answer! Employing the poor and / or uneducated in an area of high unemployment is very tempting to be a part of the problem. Being poor is a motivator . I can’t blame them……I probably would also

I am proud to say that my New Year’s Resolution has been to cut out chocolate and sweets from my diet.
I am currently in the process of building my body as a skinny guy by workout out at least 30 minutes each day and eating much more protein and vegetables to replace the sugar.
To everyone out there, you can do it too. All it takes is the first step and motivation.
hell yeah dude! 4 years ago I was 125lbs and today I am 180lbs! If you don't give up you'll get there! Just gotta make sure to eat the right food and hit the right workouts! Best of luck brotha
You can beat a sugar addiction with very high protein. My sugar addiction was knarly! Now it's non-existent! Eat protein....it doesn't turn to fat in the body. Just eat it alot and you will lose the desire for alot of sweets. They destroyed us with sugar but you win if you break the addiction!
if you want to build yourself up as a skinny guy does ppl 6 times a week idk what ur doing for 30 minutes everyday ur body needs a day off to build muscle do back and biceps the first day, chest and triceps the second and legs and shoulders the 3rd. take a break on the 4th day and rinse and repeat. you shouldn’t be doing cardio
