    That shoe dryer will work well. I wanted to make one similar to yours but to sit over my floor register in my bathroom. This way when the heat runs in the winter it will help dry my wet boots. My wife bought me boot dryer at Rural king for christmas one year and it does the same thing except it has a small heating element in it. Nothing like putting on warm boots in the winter!

      Rural King! Love that place. Using the register is a great idea -- i'll have to shift over to that in the winter, again, and may have to rig something up to channel the air. Thanks for that idea! :)

    That is a great DIY project. And I also wish I had a shop like yours, I have most the tools but no building. LOL

    Made one this week for drying fly fishing wading boots. Even had the exact same fan lying around the basement. Used 2 1/4 inch PVC. Had everything lying around the shop as scrap from this or that project. Only real difference is I had some foam pipe insulation I used to seal the fan to box opening. Had a couple PVC end caps so if I have only one pair of boots drying I can send all the air into the two pipes in use.
    Went fishing, caught some nice trout, boot dried right out!
    Nice simple and practical design. Works like a champ!
    Thanks much!

      The trout are the best part of your story. The second best are those seals. Great idea!

    Same design I had in mind but I’m using a different fan. Also I used pvc threaded fittings on the end so I didn’t have to drill holes another separate board.

    It beats the 25 or $30 a pay for my boot dryer but the one thing I do like about my boot dryer it's always warm air and in the winter months it's nice put on warm shoes but something like that you can put your register with fan going and have nice warm sheets awesome idea

      Ooooo, heat! That is most excellent in the winter. So true

    AND since it’s pulling air, you could attach a hair dryer on the outside of the fan to pull warm air for humid or quicker results!

    the air blows mainly out the top of the tube so the tip of the shoe gets dryer a lot faster than the heel side. Perhaps a generous hole (or a few perhaps along the top end of the tube) on the side of the tube where the heal of the shoe rests to allow air to cycle back into that area would cause a more distributed blowdry. just a thought. Great idea though and probably something I will be making for myself too. thanks for the great vid once again.

      I had thought the heel wouldn't have dried at all, but the air seemed to circulate ... but you're right: a cool diffuser would make it even better. Even just a few holes in the end of the pipe might do it. Thanks for the ideas!

    I love this! Thank you for making this video! I’ve been looking for a project and think I’ll make one this weekend!
    Quick question: do you think your shoes are less smelly because you use this now? I’m a runner and the sweat makes them smell not so great after only a few weeks and think a shoe dryer might help. Do you have any insight into this from your experience?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're still using this daily several years later and yes, it helps reduce the smell and wetness. Nothing quite like having dry shoes for the morning run every day

    i used a small fan blower 12V 4.5A instead of the fan and the air flow is only strong in the furthest 2 wholes :( should i add another fan blower from the other side of the shoe dryer? or maybe you have other ideas? i made mine in a shape of trapezium.. does this have any effects ?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as your box and system are tightly sealed, you will get equal air flow out as what is going in. A more powerful fan will certainly help!

  • @jabbarabdillah9290
    @jabbarabdillah9290 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    what are the specifications of the fan?

      Any fan will work. you just need air flow
