Frank was born without the fear bone in his body! I just shook my head when he said "I'm gonna' have a look up there" [@8:47]. There was so much weight pressing down on the back of that mine, you couldn't have paid me enough money to crawl through that passage!

As someone that lived in the desert for years and used to explore the old mines I check out all the vids on TH-cam by the explorers. However since finding yours the others can't compete! Your production and vid quality are the BEST I've seen. And it's apparent yous are having a great time out there.....awesome! Keep em coming guys, cause I'll be watching!!!

Gly - @ 2:24 , in your Heap Leach explanation you forgot to mention putting down an impervious liner , otherwise your Gold bearing Cyanide solution just goes into the topsoil and you lose everything . Also the Cyanide piping is normally put on top of the leach pile and sprayed through Rain-Bird Sprinklers , not buried in it . - < Doc > ( Leach Plant Operator when i worked for Goldfield Ltd. ) .

"Gly": Hi Doc! Yeah, I know... I could have spent more time on that explanation but I've been cutting my videos down to 30 minutes instead of an hour. More people are watching now that I've done so. Hope your staying warm up there and chasing all the ladies. ;)

When I was in South Africa 1981-83, they would heap leach the old mine tailings to get the gold out and shut down the underground mining whenever the price of gold dropped below $400USD/oz. Half the gold was still left in the tailings that had been processed in early 1900's. The gold mines were 2000' to 2 miles below the surface and to cost for pumps, cooling, hoisting, working and wages made the minimum price for mining at $400/oz. The SA government received 50% of the value of the gold above $400/oz. The processes tailings looked like sand hills the size of the hills you are exploring. The gold rich ore was at about 1oz/ton that they were mining, so the old tailings contained gold at 1/3-1/2 oz/ton. The reserved the old tailings for the periods when the price of gold was below $400/oz.

2nd generation electrician coal miner here from eastern ky you can look up videos that a few of my friends have posted when we have been on" pillar retrieval",which is when we are done with a section of coal we go in and remove the pillars of coal that are the only thing other than some timbers or cribbing holding the top up. Its nothing less than scary every single time,we watch in awe as the timbers bend, moan and pop as the mine collapses right in front of us.

There is another where as advance is made, metal stales are put up and when a section is mined out, these are taken out as the retreat is made, allowing the back to collapse.

Gly can I share some of your mine pictures with my friends and family? Just some of the mine pictures not any of you. Maybe Old Bob. LOL We are trying to find a jeep or tracker or something to tow behind our RV so we can get to some of these places. You gave me the bug again to explore some of these mines. I've explored some back in the day in the gold rush area of California. Calaveras County is packed with old 1849 miners claims. We found cairns everywhere with a tin cans under them with old claim papers. All hand written. Very cool to find. And every mine is picked by hand. I even found a small one room house picked right into a bank on an old creek. That was my coolest discovery and it's still there! He picked small notches in the walls to hold things like lamps I guess.

Darn, no snakes for Frank. Love to collect some specimens of the dendrites for my private collection. The flooded inclined shaft would be no good for Frank to wade in. He likes the water 33*F, not 33*C. Lots of beautiful area there, I love it each time I travel through there. This winter I'll plan on stopping in Gemfield on my way down to my claims. I wonder if you will get a chance to see some rattlers sooner or later. Frank might prefer his rattlesnake pan fried in bacon grease - tastes "just like chicken". In the "Black Rock Mine", it looks like a Manganese deposit. The smell of guano drives me "bat shit crazy". I could get to hate the taggers and their spray paint - I'd be tempted to take away their paint can and tag them for a change.

Probably one of the more dangerous mines is a hard rock placer mine. Digging in an ancient stream bed consisting of round river rock held in place by luck, wishful thinking and centrifical force generated by the Earth's rotation can be, unfortunately, very rich in gold. Unfortunately because if it weren't rich in gold no one would dig in the crumbly stuff. The key is mining the surface of the bedrock, the deepest the gold could settle. I would like to have known what the structure was in the first mine at 12:05 on the right side. It kind of looked like a stand for something but I couldn't tell. That bat guano in the last mine used to be worth quite a bit of money many years ago. Peru was the major exporter of bat poop from 1840 to 1870 until their supplies were finally depleted. Bat guano is primarily potassium nitrate, (saltpeter) the major component in gun powder and explosives but no, it is not used to make Doritos or mascara, common rumors. Thanks for sharing.

"Gly": Your right, hard rock or underground placer mines are extremely dangerous especially if you have ground water penetration. For me, mines like that are just too dangerous to explore but I've watched others do it and just shook my head. The thing you saw on the right side at 12:05 was just a block of wood that that light was sitting on. Yep, no shortage of bat guano in that last mine. I'm happy your enjoying the show! Take care.

Another quality presentation Gly, can you please explain what you think they were actually mining for (or is it always gold?) in the various types of veins that the miners follow? Also, how about a visit to a working mine to show how they did work if such a thing still exists using similar methods?

"Gly": The first location was gold. The second location with the dead cat was also gold. The third location was fluorite, that's what all the blue stuff was. Holy Macro You exposed your face😲 To be honest GLY, I thought you were in your late 50’s 👴🏻. It’s must have been the voice😂
Those holes frank was seeing near the portal of the second mine are dry washing diggings. There should have been a header pile & tailings pile close by. A lot of current prospectors are working a lot of the dry washes that the old timers missed in that region. There’s still plenty of gold being pulled out of the washes today.
I was prospecting some of the late 1890’s-1930’s dry wash tailings and around some of their mining camps just northwest of phoenix about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I did go to an open pit and checked it out but never got a chance to visit some of the mines and a mill in the area.
