  • The Austrian Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules is seen starting-up its Allison turboprop engines and taking-off at Bern in Switzerland. The pilots preformed a spectacular low pass!!
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules 8T-CB was built in 1968, a good old aircraft! It left a characteristic trail of black smoke behind it. The impressive four-engine turboprop "Herky Bird" can carry over 20 tons at one go and has the ability to land on short and unprepared strips. Listen to the distinctive roar which makes the heart of any plane enthusiast beat faster!

None other like the mighty C-130 Hercules. Perfect startup and take off procedure. I love the roar of those engines. Very overwhelming indeed. Salutes to the Austrian Air Force. Cheers to Lockheed.

My dad was the 1st Sergeant for the USAF 37th TAS out of Rhein Main AB (81-4). They would fly down to Aviano AB about 4 times a year to work with the Army Airborne stationed out of Camp Darby for about a 3 to 5 day deployment. Each and every time they came home, the entire deployment formation, usually all but 2 aircraft, would be allowed to do a low approach on the base side runway (Frankfurt Intl shared the runway) one-by-one and when they flew past their squadron building they would do a swooping 180 until the last aircraft did their 180 and then land one by one about 30 seconds apart. Taken from the USAAC returning bomber formations in WW2. It was so very cool, I so wish I had some video of that. Such an amazing aircraft, the C-130... I am willing to bet it will outlast the B-52's in the USAF active inventory...

My first three plane rides were in a C-130. The first one was from MCB Camp Pendleton to MCB 29 Palms. It was a short ride but I loved it. The entire time I was glued to the porthole because it was a big thrill for this 19 YO Marine. My 2nd plane ride was in a 130 again from Okinawa to Wake Island to MCAS in Oahu, with the final leg to El Toro. Finally, I rode from Chu Lai in 'Nam to MCB in Japan (I can't remember the name). From there I rode in a C-141 to El Toro. Since I was going on emergency leave all seats were booked. I straddled my sea bag the 15 hours it took to get home.

The unmistakable sound of Hamilton's slicing the air. I first flew in an early model C-130 in Vietnam to my duty station in Phu Bai. I scheduled a couple of lifts to move the soldiers in my gun battery unit from Holloman A.F.B. to Minnespolis/Saint Paul in a C-130. One of the legs on the way up was over the main street of the town I grew up in.

Fantastic video. The only thing missing was the smell of JP-4 burning. I was a prop mechanic on C-130E's in the Air Force(1971-1974). Being airborne in the 130 was always the thing I knew I would miss when I went back to civilian life.

I flew the 1957 series RC-130 and AC-130 Spectre from 1970 to 1975. It’s old, slow, cumbersome with, yikes, turboprop power, expensive to run, and because of lack of interest in finding a replacement jet powered aircraft, it still flying with no end in sight. It’s partners, the B-52 and KC-135, are in the same club.

Bit late to the party here, but any c130k aircraft will be ex RAF, as it was a RAF specific version.
I worked on them for a while, and although the J is easier to service, I preferred the K, as it just seemed more mechanical, like the difference between a manual and an auto gearbox. Oh, and they make a better noise too.

In the future, I'll by a C-130K before it retires, for around 10 to 30 million dollars, then customize it and get rid of the radar thing (To not appear in military radar, or else they may get confused.), and do some art, like BLACKRED, and also it will be my house, and where I will live.
